Avatar n tn Will any doctor prescribe propranolol to me for need based public speaking anxiety, or is the only place the psychiatrist?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Inderal for the public speaking and tried to deliver my speech, it was a disaster, racing thoughts, mind went blank, voice quivered, hands shook, jelly legs, etc. I may not have been on the right dose, because I have always had a very high tolerance. My question is what is the highest dose allowed.
1243620 tn?1274794297 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar n tn Prior to that, I avoided any kind of public speaking and many social situations because my heart would race, my hands and voice would shake...I'd look like a nervous wreck, which only sap my confidence and make me more embarrassed and more nervous. In college, I'd drop classes if I had to give a speech, and my social anxiety definitely interfered with my dating life. Propranaol's made a huge difference. I generally take about 40 to 60 mg.

Avatar m tn Anyone got any suggestions for what I try next for performance anxiety (public speaking)? Propranolol is doing funny things to my head (fuzzy, blurry thinking, verging on mini-intermittent headaches) a week or so after taking it. Strange thing is, I was using it fine for about 5-6 years, then suddenly I've developed these side effects... I could live with them, but for the fact they stay around for several weeks after just one dose and it drives me crazy...
Avatar m tn 1 No immunity to Hepatitis B Virus In addition to the above, I have 3 or 4 lumps of fat in my legs and abdomen. I’m shedding my leg’s hair. And I am 5’ 9” and 195lbs Hispanic/Caucasian. What do I have? Is my depression related to the findings above? Sometimes feel disabled (see below). Am I? Additional details: Fear of Public Speaking, “socially challenged”, decreased interests in family, personal, and work related activities, often has difficulties sleeping.
Avatar n tn I have tried both propranolol and atenolol, I would definitely rate atenolol the better of the two in controlling PVCs and tachycardia in my personal experience with both drugs, but then again we are different and respond differently.Others might rate propranolol the best or even another beta blocker.

Avatar n tn Haha, no that's not much potassium. A banana has a lot more than that. :-) My doc put me on propranolol "as needed" at first, and I rarely took it. I'm on 25mg Metroprolol ER now and it definitely reduced my resting heartrate to something in the low 50's. It did not stop my PVCs but rather just made them less forceful so I felt them less. Low dosage beta blockers (I'm guessing your propranolol is low dosage as well) are pretty safe.
Avatar f tn I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips. It does not usually hurt but my muscles and joints hurt and seem to be tense, weak and stiff. Can anxiety cause all of these CONSTANT symptoms? This problem is effecting my life and my relationships and I just want to feel normal and like my old self again.
Avatar m tn now, i also have a bad fear of public speaking, something i have to do a lot with at my job. so i take 20mg propranolol 1/2 hr beofre.... maybe 5-10x a month. after my own researh, i was shocked to find that inderal can trigger asthma attacks. i asked my allergist about it and she didnt seem too concerned... as my tests are saying i dont even have asthma anymore since starting the treatment.
Avatar n tn I am so worried that it is something so serious. I have seen 4 different doctors and had blood work and urinalysis done and always given anxiety as diagnosis. I am currently taking lexapro for about 3 weeks now.. seems to help a little but annoying head pressure/pain will not seem to go away. Does anyone have any advice?
Avatar f tn I have trouble leaving my house and if I do I experience shaking, cold sweats, dizziness and nausea and vomiting. My psychiatrist recommended propanolol and Zoloft.
Avatar f tn I am a graduate student. I have a fear of public speaking and a stage/performance fear when I speak in front of new people or students of my class. A few of my classes require that I give powerpoint presentations in front of the class. When I am on the spot, my voice and hands become shaky - I sometimes lose concentration to the point that I cannot get words out of my mouth even though I go in front of the class very well prepared.
Avatar n tn If the same doctor prescribed both these medications for you, then you can trust it's safe to take them together.......but you must read the labels! Sometimes "together" doesn't mean "at the same time." Some meds need to be taken with food and some on an empty stomach, some in the morning and some at night. If you have any questions about how to take these meds, call your doctor or pharmacist for the correct dosing schedule.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar m tn I have never been able to do well in interviews, public speaking, etc... extremely distressing and lowering my quality of life. I have come across propranolol in my research and it really seems like the vast majority from people with similar symptoms that this drug is an absolute game changer. Note I am not interested in anxiety medication that I could potential come addicted to hence my interest in this drug compared to SSRIs.

Avatar n tn Needless to say, she's moving into an assisted living unit this Spring which deeply saddens me that she won't be able to continue to enjoy the roses I planted in the front yard of her public housing apartment 2 years ago. She's just getting too weak and forgetful to do her own house work, cook, shop, and get around. She's on all those heart meds and has always suffered severe anxiety and depression, but has been medicated for years.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was prescribed Inderal LA by my GP a few years ago for public speaking and have been using in on/off for nearly 5 years now. They have always been 80mg tablets, so it surprises me that some people on here say 80mg is a very high dose. I only take inderal LA about once or twice a month, although it is often 2x80mg... I have returned to the GP for several repeat prescriptions and have also bought inderal over the internet.
Avatar f tn Ever since then i sometimes (about once every few months) experience this odd sensation and it can become a bit worrying and strange. The whole room seems to have a new feeling to it- everything im doing whether it be walking or typing seems to intensify and become louder yet the actions are very exaggerated and almost speed up (only perceived this way). I find it very difficult to explain fully but i'm worried it's some early signs of a neurological condition or something?
Avatar n tn I am in college, and the situations which cause me to have excessive anxiety are many. Not only do I experience dread and apprehension at the thought of speaking/participating in class, but my heart also pounds uncontrollably when I am required to speak in public. I started taking Zoloft to control the anxiety (4 weeks ago), but my heart still races--up to 130bpm.
Avatar n tn When these sites are blocked, heart rate and blood pressure are reduced and patients become less anxious. Because of this, propranolol is useful in treating chest pain, high blood pressure, and excessive nervousness. Unfortunately, propranolol often makes breathing disorders, such as asthma, worse because it tends to constrict breathing passages and sometimes causes fluid to build up in the lungs if it excessively depresses the heart.
Avatar m tn In high school all my presentations were done just in front of the teacher and no one else. I emailed the prof yesterday to tell her about my problems and she told me to come see her first thing monday morning to talk about it. My biggest worry is that she says I have to do them like everyone else, and I won't know what to do in that case. The course is required for my program, so I can't just drop it. I'm currently not seeing anyone for my anxiety or taking anything.
Avatar m tn I have Fear of Public Speaking, “socially challenged”, decreased interests in family, personal, and work related activities, often has difficulties sleeping. Family issues and son’s mild autism are big stressors are also big stressors.
Avatar f tn GP put me on citalopram which I went along w/ just to be cooperative, and propranolol to help regulate what he viewed as anxiety-induced tachy. Did not seem to find it significant that symptoms did not occur during periods of actual mental anxiety. Said it might be pheochromocytoma, but that he wouldn't bother testing as that's so rare. Ashamed to say I didn't and still haven't actually demanded said testing.
Avatar n tn i have a huge fear of public speaking, interviews reading aloud in front of others, making speaches, answering questions in groups. i go red like a tomato every time, my heart beats so hard that it leaves stretch marks on my tee shirts. my confidence is very low. do i have social phobia? can i get medicATION? what can i do to stop going red? how do i become confident again... this is ruining my life.
Avatar m tn I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist, and have been for months. He has prescribed me Propranolol and Buspar. I feel like these medications are not working and am considering seeing another doctor. I've started drinking alcohol to combat these symptoms, and it is helping more than anything else, but is causing serious bowl discomfort, and I of course recognize this is not a viable path to take.
Avatar n tn Do research on it it is used for actors for stage fright /public speaking. Has a lot of off label uses for anxiety. Also if u feel one coming on try controlling your breath deep breaths in through the nose out through the mouth sometimes this can just stop it in its tracks before it even starts .
