This time the doctor gave me Progesterone (Prometrium) capsule, 200mg and twice a day. On day 28, my hcg is 2100 and progesterone is 7.81, then on day 33, my hcg is 18,000 and progesterone 17.54. I am still taking Prometrium 200mg twice a day (virginal). As I saw some of you taking Progesterone 100mg, just wondering if the doctors reduced the dosage after your progesterone level increased? What is the dosage do you usually take? Once or twice? Please share your experience.
My concern is isnt that too high as with my last pregnancy I was taking it orally twice day only and I did great - have a healthy 18 months old baby boy.
Also I have read that low progesterone is sign of boys??? Is that true? I have two healthy boys 5 and 18 months. We will be fine with either or..but it will be great if it is a girl. Also we had BD 3 days before ovulation which I heard usually favors baby girl.
Please help..any advise will be great..
I'm taking it twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. 200mg. I take it with food so it won't make nauseated. My doctor put me on it to stop my bleeding and since I've been on it I've had none. I only have to take it for 2 more weeks I think. 5 weeks total. My doctor said it was completely safe. And it stopped my problem. So I'm not worried.
I've been taking prometrium vaginally twice daily for 13 days now (started the day after my IUI) and on day 10, I started noticing a headache, a dull gnawing sensation on both sides of my head. It is day 14 of prometrium now (CD32) and I am still feeling this. If I bend over to pick up something it hurts even more.
A little over a week ago I had a canceled IUI due to too many follicles and very high estrogen. Since then I've been taking 200mg Prometrium twice a day (to bring on my period I think). Also since then, I've had a lot of pain in my breasts. It seems to be getting a little bit better but I thought if it was related to the high estrogen it would be gone by now. It's still very much present. Did anyone ever experience this and is it normal? Thanks!
Since my IUI i have been on Prometrium twice a day. My question is... will i get a period if not pregnant while taking Prometrium?
On Tuesday I was told my Saturday Progesterone levels were 17-very good. OB said to keep taking Prometrium and to take it twice daily due to bleeding. He said U/S would not show anything yet. Tuesday afternoon my bleeding stopped and did not start again until Wednesday morning. It is now Wednesday evening and my bleeding has stopped again. I was wondering if taking the Prometrium at night and in the morning could be triggering bleeding? This is not like any miscarriage I have ever had.
Question i am currently on prometrium 200 mg twice a day to keep me pregnant. On the 20th of this month it was 1,000+ and beta was a 21 point something and on Thursday of last week i took another and it was 3,000+ but my beta dropped down to a 16 point something. The hcg is good but what is the beta and why is it dropping and what could that mean.. Now i did miss about 2 or 3 does of the prometrium since the first test but the hcg is high and going up so why would the beta drop?
I did accupuncture twice a week for 3 weeks and 3 times after the IUI. my NP told me to use Prometrium twice a day after IUI which I did the last 2 cycles when I was on Clomid and my AF came before the end of 2ww. but now it's been 17 dpIUI and still no sign of AF. I've already stopped Prometrium althought my NP told me not to. I just don't want to have any false hope any more.
I had 4 follis size from 24 to 20. did IUI 48 hrs after the surge.
8/10 - HCG is 136 Progesterone is 32 (This is before I started prometrium. I started the prometrium the very next day).
8/12 - HCG is 322 and Progesterone is 37
8/16 - HCG is 1695 and Progesterone is 31.25 (I asked if I should up the prometrium and they said no to just continue what I was doing). I was fine with that because my HCG levels were doubling so nicely.
8/23 - HCG is 19,516 and Progesterone is 30.66 (Again asked about the progesterone dropping, doctor not concerned).
I have had three very early miscarriages last year..so my doctor put me on Prometrium 200 mg twice a day to keep my progesterone levels up...and yes it has helped me tremendously...my progesterone level was at 72 until my last blood test. my doctor told me i could stop taking it after ten weeks. i had to switch doctors cuz he wasn't for OB. He stopped practicing that some time ago...
My last visit to my new doctor was pretty quick...
Oh, OK! I was taking 200 mg twice a day, so I guess it's not that big of a difference (400 mg vs. your 600 mg). Plus I was also on a vaginal gel, since I was doing IVF.

Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
He said that the HCG levels were perfect because they double in 48 hours, but that the progesterone is very low, he want me to be at least on 25. I just started on prometrium yesterday, 100 mg twice a day. He told me to rest, not to overwork myself, and everything is going to be fine, I really hope so, but you know what... I am not spotting today! I don't know if is because of the prometrium, but if it is, it does worked fast.
Hi, I have a history of miscarriage. I am 41 and am 4 weeks pregnant. My obs/gynae dr has put on pregnyl injections twice weekly,asprin and vitamins and has recommend I start provera medroxyprogesterone acetatae oral tabs 20mg x3 a day from week 5. I am a bit unsure about the provera due to some side effects? How did you find the prometrium I think its similar.
I am not to sure about the progesterone tabs, because after I had a m/c they gave me Prometrium (progesterone pills) to start up a new cycle. I know that if you are pregnant and you are taking progesterone that you have to continue taking it until the end of the first trimester, but I am not totally sure that it would delay your cycle. I could be totally wrong.
