to get preg one must ovulate if you are not ovulating you can not get pregnant no matter what, also once you are pregnant if you do can not keep enough progesterone (i think could be estrogen its one of the two) in the system you will miscarry which is why many with PCOS need medical help keeping a child to term (not all but many).
Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.

I'm new to this forum but I think it's really helpful. I had a question about waiting to start trying to get pregnant. I'm almost 31 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS for a few years now. My doctor said I can try clomid first to see it works for me ones I decide to start trying to get pregnant. I don't know if it's ok to wait 1 or 2 more years to start trying or if I should start trying now because of my age and the PCOS?
My doc wants me to start Clomid, but I have to have a period this month to begin it. She (my dr) told me that the prometrium is to make me start my period. I had side effects from the Prometium that are just like bring preggo.. breast tenderness, cramping, dizzyness, tired feeling, etc. Anyway, I was wondering what your dr said about the prometrium helping you get preggo? I was just wondering what other uses they use prometrium for besides starting periods..
My dr. just put me on Prometrium 200mg at bedtime with hope to get my period. Has anyone taken this for similar reason and what was your outcome? We are trying to get pregnant.
my first round on Prometrium AF was a few days late and the day after I called my dr's office - she came so no questions there... The next cycle AF was on time - and the third - was a success and I took it through my first trimester - now I'm getting close to the third. It was a horrible waiting game b/c the side effects of prometrium were just about the same as early pregnancy and PMS! Good luck.
The doctor prescribed prometrium for her. She is scared to death to take the medication because it has a strong warning on the label "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT OR ANTICIPATE GETTING PREGNANT. Why would the doctor prescribe prometrium if the twin is OK at this time?
m a 24 y/o F who has been trying to get pregnant since last April. I have very irregular and missed periods so my Dr. put me on 10 days of Prometrium. I had few side effects, fatigue, dizziness and some nausea. After the 10 days on the pill I am supposed to get my period and on day 3 of normal mentration return to the clinic for lab work to diagnose polycystic ovaries. It's been 7 days and no period yet. My breasts hurt and I'm nausous now that I'm NOT taking Prometrium.
Why should Prometrium not be prescribed?
Do not take Prometrium if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it.
Do not take Prometrium if you are pregnant or have had an incomplete miscarriage. Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.

I have been TTC for 1 year and 1/2. I have had 2 miscarriages, both at around 6 weeks. I was transfered to a fertility clinic late last year. The fertility doc wants me to take 400g of prometrium from 4dpo to 13dpo. He says it doesn't matter whether I'm pregnant or not as the progesterone only helps during implantation and according to him stopping if I am pregnant will not have a negative effect as a valid pregnancy will generate enough progesterone on its own.
I had to exercise quite a bit and eat healthy and i finally got pregnant after losing just 15lbs. I had been trying for 5 years to get pregnant also and i had been put on metformin with no results as well. I was told the best way was to get healthy and lose weight if you needed to lose any because it could trigger your body to start regulating those hormones again. Hope this helps ladies.

If you were my patient, I would advise you to use Metformin and Clomid to help you to conceive. I am not sure what fertab is, so hard to comment on that. The combination of Metformin and Clomid works well for women with PCOS> Weight loss can sometimes work very well too, if you are overweight.

t prescribe anything until more bloodwork the next time I was pregnant I took matters into my own hands a little and decided to use progesterone cream as I had read a lot about it and saw the positive effects... Most likely the reason I've held onto this one so far I'm only 4 weeks 2 days and progesterone level was 16.11 they want above 20 and hcg was 295... Now they called and prescribed promethium 4x a day and I pray to god that this helps!!
I think prometrium will raise your levels whether you're pregnant or not...but hopefully this is your month!!! Best of luck!
