Prometrium suppositories

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium suppositories

prometrium

377493 tn?1356502149 So I have now been on Prometrium (orally, 300mg a day) for about a week. I have looked it up on the web, and all the sites related to it say to take it before you are pregnant, but not to take while you are pregnant. I am completely confused. My OB prescribed it knowing absolutely I was pregnant, and has me on it up until the end of the first trimester. Also, it seems the symptoms mimic pregnancy symptoms. Has anybody had a negative outcome using this drug?
1065258 tn?1273784139 Hi ladies.. My RE said it's time to go off prometrium pills (100mg x2 per day) He said to drop down to one pill per day for the next 3 days and then have levels checked. I'm nervous to stop taking it even though I know that placenta takes over I'm still scared because I had spotting a few weeks ago. Did you guys experience going off prometrium? Was everything ok??? Do you feel any different after stopping the medicine ?
Avatar f tn Hmmm. Well, prometrium is prescribed for some orally (that's how I took it) and as suppositories. I would highly doubt the same pill could be taken either way...I am pretty confident it would be different. If you cannot reach your OB, the best person to ask is the pharmascist. It sounds to me like someone might have made an error.
652899 tn?1284047173 -The suppositories and the creams are thought to be more effective than injections because it puts the progesterone closer to where it's needed. -The suppositories can leak and cause discharge. -Crinone can build up and cause discharge (definitely true!) For me the Crinone is a $30 copay (my copays are $10, $30, and $50).
611020 tn?1290571629 Does anyone know if you're taking Prometrium, and you are miscarrying, can the prometrium prevent any sign of the m/c ? i.e. can it prevent spotting/bleeding/cramping , or will the m/c go through anyway.?
Avatar f tn I was on prometrium suppositories until my 8th week to enrich the environment. Both my IVF dr and my OB said it can be discontinued after 8 wks when the placenta takes over. I just went off of it last week and haven't noticed a difference. The dr said it can also interfere with the blood test for nuchal transparency and d/s testing. Good luck!
760368 tn?1257730989 Hi everyone, I just got a BFP yesterday and had some questions about anyone who has had to take prometrium or progesterone supplements in the 1st trimester. I have had 2 miscarriages within a year and the last one being almost 12 weeks along in January '09 so the Dr. wants to start me on supplements. Is anyone taking them??
1318306 tn?1276180824 m taking Prometrium vaginally. When should I use the prometrium before or after. Should he wear a condom. Will the prometrium do anything to him? anyone have any advice.
422823 tn?1229736847 I took 100mg for one cycle (BFN) and the dr upped it to 200mg - on the third cycle - I got pregnant. I took it before I went to bed b/c of the side effects until I was in my 13th week. I'm now 30 weeks - I'd say, 'what could it hurt'?! I had two miscarriages and they ran a bunch of tests and found I have a blood clotting issue. So when we started TTC again I was told to take baby aspirin and prometrium.
Avatar f tn Progesterone above 20 is great! Your levels will fluctuate throughout the day so it is possible that the "drop" was just that your progesterone was low at that particular time of the blood draw. There's no harm in taking the supplements (I'd do oral supplements, aka Prometrium, as opposed to suppositories since your prog. is above 20) if it helps to ease your mind. You'll have to stop taking them by week 10-12.
Avatar f tn Hey girls ~ was told yesterday that having Prometrium prescribed as a suppository was ludicrous ~ that Crinone Gel is mega better and sticks as opposed to the Prometrium which just drips out "because it was made to be taken orally ~ not vaginally ~ and anyone who suggests it is just playing with being a Fertilization Specialist"....
Avatar n tn My blood work shows positive result but the doctor said that my progesterone level is very low (6.5). I was advised to take prometrium. has anyone had a similar experience?? thanks!
399438 tn?1201614376 The doc px prometrium to be on the safe side . I took my first dose last night and about 45 min after I got serious eye itching . Called the doc and they said to stop taking it cause the reaction could be worse with swelling blablabla . She said it was ok for me to take claritin for the itching which I had done . I think my eyes were already a little irritated last night from cooking , it just doesn't usually get that bad .
907699 tn?1251630847 I am on 50mg of progesterone suppositories that have to be made at a compounding pharmacy. I get mine shipped and they are working cuz my temps have gone up. The suppositories go straight to the area needed from what I hear.
Avatar f tn As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day. I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.
Avatar n tn t get suppositories for that, you can get some comprozine suppositories for nausea. Can you try taking your medicine in any kind of food? Sorry for my spelling!
495138 tn?1221217880 ve had 2 miscarriages in the last 7 months and my docotr put me on Prometrium today 100mg suppositories 2 times a day. I really hope this baby stays with me I go for my first scan on June.
Avatar f tn I switched from a RE in Czech Republic who did my IVF and supplied my progesterone- vaginal suppositories, to a local OBGYN who gave me a further prescription for progesterone in the form of prometrium capsules (the little pink 100mg balls). My prescription says to be taken vaginally, but the info leaflet says to be taken orally. Can you take the same capsule either orally or vaginally as a suppository?
Avatar f tn I always get itchy and yeasty towards the end of a fertility treatment cycle because I use the progesterone vaginal suppositories (prometrium). When it's gotten really bad, I asked my OBGYN and they said it was OK to use the external cream that usually comes with the monistat suppositories. I do NOT use the monistat suppository, just the cream that comes with it and only externally. It seems to help.
1319297 tn?1274794630 s and am hypothyroid) And it was able to help my body get my progesterone level back to normal. I had tried progesterone cream, then Prometrium, and then progesterone suppositories, but nothing worked. I kept getting progesterone levels around 4 or 5 at 7DPO. But the month I added maca (& took Prometrium, too), at 7DPO it was 17.5! I highly recommend it! It's an adaptogen so it gives you the right amount of whatever you need to balance hormones and help the thyroid to function optimally.
1262373 tn?1281543782 On day 28 I had a blood test and was told to continue on the progesterone suppositories until week 12... It does not cause your period to start. They will probably bring you in for blood hcg testing and depending on the results tell you to continue if BFP or stop all meds if BFN..
1121273 tn?1325367975 Hi ladies. So, I started prometrium the first day I got a BFP at 10dpo. Ten days later, I had my progesterone level checked and it is 23.7. Is this good considering I am on prometrium? Or should it be higher? Would it be low if I wasn't taking the progesterone supplement? Midwife said she wanted to see it between 20-25 without supplements but I was already taking them when she ordered the test.
1404800 tn?1325726047 I'M 5 WKS PREGNANT, AND MY DOC PUT ME ON PROMETRIUM 200MG TWICE DAILY. I HAVE HAD TWO M/C BOTH IN FIRST TRIMESTER. DOC SAYS IT MAY HELP, HAS ANYONE BEEN PRESCRIBED THIS DRUG?
691236 tn?1311199974 I had my trigger shot yesterday at 9am. My doc prescribed estradiol, prometrium (both in pill form) and progesterone suppositories for the next 2 weeks until my pregnancy blood test. Anyone else on these and do you know why? My doc just said my hormone levels were very low and he wanted to me take these to sustain the embryo if it does implant. Any knowledge/expereinece you have is greatly appreciated! Thanks girls!
Avatar f tn I have my blood test on Monday. I am still taking Prometrium suppositories. Do you know if Prometrium will delay a period? I was gonna call my dr today but I feel like a nag!
1422850 tn?1307364413 You can get your period while taking progesterone if the dose is low enough. When I was taking 200 mg progesterone (prometrium) and was not pregnant, I got my period w/out stopping the progesterone. Same thing when I was on Crinone 90 mg. When I was on 400 mg suppositories I did not get my period even though I wasn't pregnant. I had to stop the suppositories to get my period. So it depends on the dose...
Avatar f tn I have always wondered if the suppositories affect the eggs and she thinks that prometrium caps are better. Any thoughts about this ladies? This is what she ported: "My RE uses prometrium gel caps instead of progesterone inserts or shots to help with implamentation and the eggs "sticking" They said since they switched, and have started using the prometrium, their success rates have skyrocked and success rates have went through the roof!!!!
Avatar f tn I turned 10 weeks on friday and have been on prometrium suppositories since i was about 4 weeks because my progesterone level was 14.
