Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium medication

prometrium

628735 tn?1273875777 I was given a prescription for Prometrium from my Dr. Im not pregnant yet but start clomid in 4 days. My Dr said not to start taking the prometrium until I get a BFP. I MC twins back in September, but am not sure if it was due to low progesterone. my question is, on the Prometrium pill container it says do not take if pregnant. I have been somewhat confused about this as the dr said to take it as soon as I get a +.
Avatar f tn Crinone vaginal gel, intramuscular progesterone, and Prometrium capsules are natural progesterone preparations which are safe to use during pregnancy. In woman with recurrent pregnancy loss heparin and baby aspirin are helpful to keep open the blood vessels in the placenta. Steroids may also be helpful since they act by inhibiting the cellular immune response. The duration of treatment depends on your particular situation.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed prometrium for her. She is scared to death to take the medication because it has a strong warning on the label "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT OR ANTICIPATE GETTING PREGNANT. Why would the doctor prescribe prometrium if the twin is OK at this time?
Avatar f tn I did not get periods for 2 months but I was getting some kind of bleeding every now and then. My gynac suggested me to take prometrium for 10 days after seeing a follicle. Its been 7 days now that i have stopped prometrium but still no periods. I have take HPT too in the past week and both the tests are negative. I am confused if I am pregnant or not Could some one suggest me here any solution. Also, when should we take the HPT once we stop prometrium.
Avatar n tn This is my first time posting a question so bear with me. I'm a 24 y/o F who has been trying to get pregnant since last April. I have very irregular and missed periods so my Dr. put me on 10 days of Prometrium. I had few side effects, fatigue, dizziness and some nausea. After the 10 days on the pill I am supposed to get my period and on day 3 of normal mentration return to the clinic for lab work to diagnose polycystic ovaries. It's been 7 days and no period yet.
1262373 tn?1281543782 My doc just put me on 200 mg of prometrium on days 14-28. Does anyone know anything about this medication? How is it different than progesterone? If I concieve while taking it then what? I would have asked my doc these questions but I thought that it was the same a plain progesterone which I have taken before. Also for the Poll If you took prometrium and it helped you conceive did you get a boy or a girl!! We are using shettles method to sway for a boy. We have 2 girls.
Avatar n tn Before you reduce or stop taking a prescription medication, you need to discuss it with your doctor. Call your doctor and let him/her know that you are having a problem with the medication and ask THEM if it is safe for you to reduce your dose.
Avatar f tn Once you start taking the medication do NOT stop taking it until your dr says so as stopping this medication may cause you to bleed and probably miscarry. I hope i didn't confuse you more.
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.

Avatar f tn I switched from a RE in Czech Republic who did my IVF and supplied my progesterone- vaginal suppositories, to a local OBGYN who gave me a further prescription for progesterone in the form of prometrium capsules (the little pink 100mg balls). My prescription says to be taken vaginally, but the info leaflet says to be taken orally. Can you take the same capsule either orally or vaginally as a suppository?
Avatar m tn My wife has been off of Prometrium for about a month and a half, and was originally prescribed it because she had very heavy, long periods. She ended up becoming very anxious while on the medication, so her doctor told her to stop and take birth control starting on her next cycle. My wife did not take the birth control, as we were in the process of moving and she wanted to consult a doctor in our new city. Since stopping the Prometrium, we've noticed that she has the following symptoms. 1.
Avatar f tn Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.
Avatar f tn 5, and my hcg more than doubled. My OB prescribed Prometrium 200mg, saying he wanted the progesterone level >20. My concern is his refusal to check my progesterone level after taking the Prometrium. He says the results would not matter, as he would not prescribe any additional progesterone, saying the body "can only absorb so much." I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8.
Avatar f tn has he put you on any medications like prometrium to raise the levels? That medication is the only way I can successfully carry a baby in the first trimester and without it I m/c.
Avatar f tn t exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication. When I returned to the doctor a week later, he said that my hormone level came back at 12.4 and informed me that that is extremely low. He said that my body would have had to have produced more of the hormone otherwise I would have already miscarried. (Before the appointment with him, I had an ultrasound done that confirmed everything was normal.
543791 tn?1216381777 I took prometrium for a whopping 1 month before I got pregnant with my son. He was born healthy. I didn't take it this summer with my mc, and I asked the dr if that was a possibility (among about a million other questions). He said no, but we would monitor the progesterone levels. So far this pregnancy has been good, so hopefully you will get good results too. Thanks for posting the info, and keep us updated.
1741246 tn?1311324281 I am certain that there is no way I could be ovulating right now, and am wondering if maybe it might be my endometriosis that is acting up because of the estrogen and prometrium I am taking. Any ideas?
760797 tn?1303264540 The nurse called and said the dr would like me to take prometrium 200 mg sup. 2 times a day. I picked the prescription up and was a little worried when I started reading through the info that accompanied my prescription. The side effects don't bother me as much as the possibility of stoke, heart attack or blood clots. Also I'm in the tww and may possibly be pg. I know the RE would not prescribe anything that she didn't feel necessary but I am still nervous about taking it.
Avatar f tn I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
Avatar f tn If you are using Crinone or Prometrium, begin the medication when you wake up in the morning starting the day after your egg retrieval. If you are using intramuscular progesterone, begin it either in the morning or the evening of your egg retrieval. Is there anything else I need to know if I am taking Crinone? When using Crinone, it is generally recommended that you take it when you first wake up.
1176767 tn?1266188094 I have been taking a vaginal dose of prometrium at night before bed now for about a week . My husband was not too shy to mention to me that on a romantic evening together while having an oral sex moment that I happened to taste different. Has anyone ever been told that this medication could make them taste like a copper penny? That would be the only thing that has changed in my daily routine, I just wanna make sure that there is nothing more serious going on with me.
Avatar f tn I could not wait another 6 days to take their test so i bought a home one from the chemist and it came back positive, the next day i did another and that is positive, when i rung the hospital they said that the medication i am on could have caused it buti am only on hrt to keep the linning of my womb thick, i am due to take their test on Monday, has anyone else experienced this. 611020 tn?1290571629 Does anyone know if you're taking Prometrium, and you are miscarrying, can the prometrium prevent any sign of the m/c ? i.e. can it prevent spotting/bleeding/cramping , or will the m/c go through anyway.?
490183 tn?1361213953 Yes, Prometrium does delay your AF. First time when i was on prometrium, i didn't get my AF until CD40.
Avatar f tn My question is how common is this and besides the medication how do they check for progression? I have felt either exhausted, wide awake, hormones everywhere, and cold all the time. Please respond with encouraging responses!
