Prometrium luteal phase

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium luteal phase

prometrium

887196 tn?1267555107 Anyone with previous/current experience with luteal phase defect? How was it firmly diagnosed and what was the initial treatments?
Avatar f tn if you are on prometrium because of a luteal phase defect, often caused by low progesterone, then it would make your luteal phase longer, which increases time between periods. Hope that helps a little to answer your question.
Avatar n tn It would be worthwhile to test both of you if only one of you was tested 2) I doubt that the single strand MTHFR finding is significant, but agree that extra folic acid cannot hurt and might help 3) I would hesitate to start prometrium on day 12 of your cycle. Prometrium is given to treat luteal phase defect, but there really is no evidence that we are able to diagnose luteal phase defect, or that luteal phase defect causes recurrent pregnancy loss.
Avatar f tn Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped. That is why you are always to have a beta hCG blood draw on the 32-33 day of your cycle to see if pregnancy has taken place.
384150 tn?1399904816 I don't have a short luteal phase, but I did try progesterone cream one month. I stopped using it after that, though, since I was warned against it by another poster. I guess they're not regulated by the FDA, so you don't know how much you're getting. Therefore, it's probably better to ask your doctor for a prescription (like prometrium) if you want to supplement with progesterone. You could also try vitamin B6.
583196 tn?1429221155 yep its def good for lengthening the luteal ph and dont take more than 50 mg per day also vitex can help with lengthening it as well :)
Avatar f tn Just wondering if any of you ladies have any other ideas on how I can try to extend my luteal phase other than B-complex. My af is due on 1st May so this cycle my luteal phase will only be 9 days. My next consultant appointment was cancelled and rescheduled for late July which is an age away and I want to be able to do all I can to help us ttc as I'm not going to be getting any medical help until October at the earliest. Thanks.
282955 tn?1394730951 so I doubt that you would need it.. most of the time low progesterone or luteal phase defect would show up on cd21 bloodwork, and have a short luteal phase.. i had spotting starting around 10dpo when my progesterone was low... you can buy progesterone cream otc, but not prometrium that i'm aware of! those are great numbers though! good luck!
Avatar f tn I started progesterone (but not prometrium) a few cycles ago 'cause my luteal phase was too short. The progesterone lengthened my luteal phase from 9 days to 13-14 when AF starts, and then I stop the progesterone. I'm not sure if prometrium and the progesterone I'm taking work differently ?? I'm not sure why you would be bleeding so much, but again I'm not familiar with the progesterone you're taking. I would ask your doctor what he/she thinks. Good luck to you !
419008 tn?1219536438 I always took it after my + OPK and took it my whole luteal phase and then up til 11 weeks during my pregnancy.
341299 tn?1213042788 I took a good quality B-6 vitamin supplement along with my regular prenatal vitamin and my luteal phase lengthened within just a few months. Then I became successfully pregnant with our second baby, so it worked for us. Are you charting too? Taking your basal body temperature with charting may help you determine your cycles more accurately. This book and website really helped me: www.tcoyf.com. (Taking Charge of Your Fertility). good luck!
384150 tn?1399904816 Were you by any chance on prometrium? Also, I meant to mention, I started having a shortened luteal phase a few cycles ago,and that is one of the reasons my Dr. put me on clomid. He said a 14 day luteal phase was perfect world scenario for conceiving. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.
588676 tn?1317820597 s MD recommended taking the vitamin/supplement Vitamin B-6 to correct a luteal phase defect. I have not been diagnosed with this, but I have noticed that I get my LH surge around CD15-16, then AF shows up 11-12 days later. The cause of my early miscarriages have been due to low progesterone levels. The highest my progesterone levels have been without the supplementation of Prometrium with these pregnancies have been 4.3 or 4.
Avatar f tn Did you take progesterone for a short luteal phase, by any chance? Just curious, as mine's only 10 days for the last 4 months and I'm wondering if someday (if not preggo in a year) my doc will put me on this. Good luck! Hope it's good news for you!
760797 tn?1303264540 Progesterone is the hormone that sustains your luteal phase (time from ovualtion until your period begins). Your period is triggered by the sudden drop in progesterone. Progesterone is also the hormone that makes your temp spike up after ovulation and is why women watch to see if their temp is staying high around the time of AF. Usually a temp and thereby progesterone will drop 24 to 48 hours before AF although that's not true for all women...
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
Avatar f tn I had a normal, healthy pregnancy (daugter 18 months) and since have had trouble carrying a pregnancy. My first cycle on prometrium, my cycle was 35 days with 19 day luteal phase. This cycle I'm at day 38 and counting with a 20 day luteal phase so far. I took a HPT yesterday and got a negative. I stopped taking the progesterone last night, although woke up with 99.0 temp (.2 higher than yesterday AM). I took a OPK this morning and got an almost positive.
Avatar f tn Not personally, but if your levels are too low, or your luteal phase (from ovulation till your period starts) is too short, then a progesterone supplement can definitely help! Best of luck to you!
296340 tn?1336164001 My home tests are + but I had cramping last night, did feel like af was coming. (That's why I tested again this am, just to see if a + was still there.) I looked at your chart, just one day away from day 14! Most women's luteal phase is 12-14 days unless you are on progestrone, which I am. How long does your luteal phase tend to be? I agree, you never know. I tested on days 11-13 past the IUI. I go for my b/w pg test tomorrow. Yes, don't count yourself out yet!
384150 tn?1399904816 Hum, that's a tough one. I have a 23 day cycle with a 10 day luteal phase. When I conceived my daughter, I had all of the symptoms. I did start taking supplements as soon as I found out I was pregnant but that wasn't until I was already 5 weeks along, because I didn't pay much attention to my periods back then. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
490183 tn?1361213953 re still taking prometrium, but it usually delays AF by a day or two...especially if your normal luteal phase (from O till AF) is on the short side. For women who get a beta HCG test done, I think the standard is to take progesterone until you get your test. If it's positive, continue until about 12th week or so; and if it's negative, stop taking it and wait for AF.
897362 tn?1318121281 I have LPD (luteal phase defect) and start taking my prometrium (progesterone) suppository starting 3dpo to build up my uterine lining making it possible for implantation.... (have had 5 early m/c's so far). 2 hours after I inserted my first prometrium suppository this morning I found an abundance of eggwhite cm tinged with brown/pink. Is this too early for implantation? Is this a sign of something possibly wrong?? Thanks for any info!
Avatar n tn Progesterone: 5.84 FSH: 8.7 Estradiol: 109 Considering my age, and from my limited knowledge, it seems like my FSH and Estradiol levels are not out of whack. However, could you please let me know what you think about my progesterone level. It seems low to me. Also, of course if you have any input as to my FSH and Estradiol levels, I would love to hear it.
Avatar f tn Luteal phase is the time in between when you ovulate and when your next period starts. Everyone's luteal phase is different, but they typically last from 10 to 16 days with the average being 14 days. Like the other post said, the best way to figure yours out is to start BBT (basal body temperature) charting. Are you familiar with this? You use a BBT thermometer and take your temp every day before getting out of bed. Once you do it for a cycle or two, you should notice a pattern.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the note... how long is your cycle or luteal phase?? Mine seems a normal length- I have a 28 day cycle, ovulate on day 14... how much more normal can you get?!?!? Is it too late if I take higher progesterone after they take my day 21 blood and see that it's still low?? Or do I still have time to save the preg (if I am preg) at that time??? Thank you SO much for writing... I don't feel so alone.
1676653 tn?1391039945 What is the luteal phase? I have been hearing different things and I am confused? What is it and how do you determine it?
