Prometrium for short luteal phase

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for short luteal phase

prometrium

384150 tn?1399904816 I don't have a short luteal phase, but I did try progesterone cream one month. I stopped using it after that, though, since I was warned against it by another poster. I guess they're not regulated by the FDA, so you don't know how much you're getting. Therefore, it's probably better to ask your doctor for a prescription (like prometrium) if you want to supplement with progesterone. You could also try vitamin B6.
887196 tn?1267555107 I had been chartign for 6 months and never had a temp increase after ovulation and my luteal phase was never longer than 8-9 days. I also had breakthrough bleeding/spotting for several days before AF, and AF was very heavy, long, and painful. After doing a lot of research, I felt fairly confident that progesterone was the culprit, and I started using an OTC progesterone cream after ovulation. I got pregnant that same cycle.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if any of you ladies have any other ideas on how I can try to extend my luteal phase other than B-complex. My af is due on 1st May so this cycle my luteal phase will only be 9 days. My next consultant appointment was cancelled and rescheduled for late July which is an age away and I want to be able to do all I can to help us ttc as I'm not going to be getting any medical help until October at the earliest. Thanks.
384150 tn?1399904816 Has anyone gotten pregnant when they have such a short AF? Can short AF be caused by short luteral phase? Lots of questions.
Avatar f tn if you are on prometrium because of a luteal phase defect, often caused by low progesterone, then it would make your luteal phase longer, which increases time between periods. Hope that helps a little to answer your question.
Avatar n tn It would be worthwhile to test both of you if only one of you was tested 2) I doubt that the single strand MTHFR finding is significant, but agree that extra folic acid cannot hurt and might help 3) I would hesitate to start prometrium on day 12 of your cycle. Prometrium is given to treat luteal phase defect, but there really is no evidence that we are able to diagnose luteal phase defect, or that luteal phase defect causes recurrent pregnancy loss.
282955 tn?1394730951 most of the time low progesterone or luteal phase defect would show up on cd21 bloodwork, and have a short luteal phase.. i had spotting starting around 10dpo when my progesterone was low... you can buy progesterone cream otc, but not prometrium that i'm aware of! those are great numbers though! good luck!
505913 tn?1248346152 The past 2 months for sure it seems I have a short luteal phase. Anyone have experience with this and/or have it hinder your gettgin pregnant? Thanks!
1884694 tn?1320984455 So I ovulate on days 17-18 and I'm worried my luteal phase is too short and is making it hard for me to conceive. I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with luteal phases??
Avatar f tn I started progesterone (but not prometrium) a few cycles ago 'cause my luteal phase was too short. The progesterone lengthened my luteal phase from 9 days to 13-14 when AF starts, and then I stop the progesterone. I'm not sure if prometrium and the progesterone I'm taking work differently ?? I'm not sure why you would be bleeding so much, but again I'm not familiar with the progesterone you're taking. I would ask your doctor what he/she thinks. Good luck to you !
Avatar f tn Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped. That is why you are always to have a beta hCG blood draw on the 32-33 day of your cycle to see if pregnancy has taken place.
Avatar f tn Not personally, but if your levels are too low, or your luteal phase (from ovulation till your period starts) is too short, then a progesterone supplement can definitely help! Best of luck to you!
594189 tn?1386916607 Hi Lori! If I were you, I would ask your doctor for a progesterone test after your next ovulation. Sometimes a low level can cause a short luteal phase. If it is a bit low, your doctor might prescribe a progesterone supplement, which usually helps extend your luteal phase. Good luck!
906115 tn?1344200509 Hey 30something...I don't really know the answer to that...but I do know that I have been having short cycles. They are usually 26 days but my last one was 21 days and I have a feeling AF is coming again...another 21 day cycle. If so, I'm going to the DR. cuz its kinda scary. Last cycle I o'd on day 7! SEVEN! This time around...I have no idea. I didn't feel it. You have a very short luteal phase. Hmm. I think I'm going to look some of this stuff up on line....
594189 tn?1386916607 are you having AF after 6 days or spotting? are you on progesterone supplements already? or have they shown you have low progesterone during this time? I have spotted the last few years during LP and progesteerone supplements stop that every time.. otherwise just to make sure your ovulating well... GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn Did you take progesterone for a short luteal phase, by any chance? Just curious, as mine's only 10 days for the last 4 months and I'm wondering if someday (if not preggo in a year) my doc will put me on this. Good luck! Hope it's good news for you!
760797 tn?1303264540 SO, if your progesterone is weak, not only can it dip low enough to start your period even if you are pregnant thereby causing a very early miscarriage, but it can also leave you luteal phase too short for implantation to happen. The minimum number of days from Ovulation to AF is supposed to be 10 and 12-14 is much more reassuring. Low progesterone is also probably one of the highest causes of "false positive" pregnancy results.
490183 tn?1361213953 re still taking prometrium, but it usually delays AF by a day or two...especially if your normal luteal phase (from O till AF) is on the short side. For women who get a beta HCG test done, I think the standard is to take progesterone until you get your test. If it's positive, continue until about 12th week or so; and if it's negative, stop taking it and wait for AF.
1636472 tn?1439182988 I am wondering if he automatically assumed that my problem was the short luteal phase. I have read that a short luteal phase could prevent implantation and that I very well may have conceived before but it could have passed through my cycles. I guess I am just wondering if the clomid will help me if a short luteal phase is my problem? Does anyone have any feedback? Please help!!
283175 tn?1295537265 a luteal phase is somthing from ovulation until your period.a certain amount of time is needed in order to achieve pregnancy.for anyone in this position, google luteal phase defect,it explains its not possible to concieve if you have a short luteal phase.same as women assuming pregnancy can occur during there period, this is not true.a woman can concieve during ovulation, typically 2 weeks give or take day or 2.
588676 tn?1317820597 Thanks for your comment. Actually my luteal phase is not 12-14 days. The LH surge is what lets you know that ovulation will occur in the next 24-48 hours. This means that my luteal phase is 10-11 days and anything less than 12 is considered a problem. I contemplated doing BBT, but figured it was a waste of time since I never used it the other times I was pregnant (4 times in 1 year).
419008 tn?1219536438 I always took it after my + OPK and took it my whole luteal phase and then up til 11 weeks during my pregnancy.
Avatar f tn How do you count to determine your luteal phase? Do you start the day after ovulation and count until the day OF your period? Or from the day after ovulation to the day before your period (I read this somewhere)? I think my phase is short but my dr is dismissing my concerns. It would explain a lot... Thanks!
Avatar f tn I myself took a B complex for my luteal phase too, but I did not have any trouble with ovulating on time. That is strange! I know if your cycle is longer then your ovulation date can be off, but not your luteal phase be longer (that is if your cycle date is still the same) Have you mentioned this to your ob?? I found Clomid was my most effective route! I o'd on time and had a much better luteal phase too! Good luck!
