Prometrium and luteal phase defect

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium and luteal phase defect

prometrium

887196 tn?1267555107 I had luteal phase defect when TTC my first. I did not have it firmly diagnosed but my doctor confirmed at my first appt/ultrasound that I had correctly self-diagnosed (ha!). I had been chartign for 6 months and never had a temp increase after ovulation and my luteal phase was never longer than 8-9 days. I also had breakthrough bleeding/spotting for several days before AF, and AF was very heavy, long, and painful.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is given to treat luteal phase defect, but there really is no evidence that we are able to diagnose luteal phase defect, or that luteal phase defect causes recurrent pregnancy loss. Luteal phase defect as a cause of recurrent miscarriages is something that we have talked about for decades, but without any good proof. In a normal menstrual cycle, your own ovaries do not start to produce progesterone until after you ovulate.
Avatar f tn if you are on prometrium because of a luteal phase defect, often caused by low progesterone, then it would make your luteal phase longer, which increases time between periods. Hope that helps a little to answer your question.
588676 tn?1317820597 Having progesterone problems is considered a Luteal Phase Defect and i dont think vitamin B corrects that, you actually need progesterone supplements in addition to the vitamin b(not 100% sure but i think thats right) Since you had 2 m/c due to progesterone, you should ask your dr to take your P levels 7days after ovulation and i think levels under 15 indicate a problem. Do you take your temps?
282955 tn?1394730951 so I doubt that you would need it.. most of the time low progesterone or luteal phase defect would show up on cd21 bloodwork, and have a short luteal phase.. i had spotting starting around 10dpo when my progesterone was low... you can buy progesterone cream otc, but not prometrium that i'm aware of! those are great numbers though! good luck!
Avatar f tn Does anyone else know much about progesterone supplements? My dr. put me on them after 2 early miscarriages. I had a normal, healthy pregnancy (daugter 18 months) and since have had trouble carrying a pregnancy. My first cycle on prometrium, my cycle was 35 days with 19 day luteal phase. This cycle I'm at day 38 and counting with a 20 day luteal phase so far. I took a HPT yesterday and got a negative. I stopped taking the progesterone last night, although woke up with 99.0 temp (.
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
341299 tn?1213042788 I took a good quality B-6 vitamin supplement along with my regular prenatal vitamin and my luteal phase lengthened within just a few months. Then I became successfully pregnant with our second baby, so it worked for us. Are you charting too? Taking your basal body temperature with charting may help you determine your cycles more accurately. This book and website really helped me: www.tcoyf.com. (Taking Charge of Your Fertility). good luck!
1176767 tn?1266188094 I ahve taken all three I take mine for a luteal phase defect, I ahve a slow rise and short luteal phase. Then since my progesterone is low I must take it my whole pregnancy as well. This is #5 and the first time I have taken it and not crontracted or bleed or thrown up the whole time or had severe dehydration no matter what I would drink.
Avatar f tn i have had three miscarriages and had tests which state i have luteal phase defect is there any thing i can use instead of injects to mantain my pregnancys past 12 weeks
897362 tn?1318121281 I have LPD (luteal phase defect) and start taking my prometrium (progesterone) suppository starting 3dpo to build up my uterine lining making it possible for implantation.... (have had 5 early m/c's so far). 2 hours after I inserted my first prometrium suppository this morning I found an abundance of eggwhite cm tinged with brown/pink. Is this too early for implantation? Is this a sign of something possibly wrong?? Thanks for any info!
1310814 tn?1310654901 I found this article very interesting. It talks about Luteal Phase Defects, and how there are different kinds... http://www.acudenver.com/articles/ArticlesRL8.
598319 tn?1282102140 I had been charting for several months prior to that pregnancy and discovered that I had a luteal phase defect. I opted to use an OTC progesterone cream after ovulation, and became pregnant the first try! After my first OB visit (where my OB was flabbergasted and appalled that I had self-diagnosed and treated... then confirmed that I did indeed have low progesterone...) I switched to oral Prometrium which I took for the first 13 weeks, and had a healthy full-term pregnancy.
121828 tn?1333464491 ) I have been taking 100mg of vitamin b6 every night and it has helped lengthen it by a few days. You could always start there if you aren't ready to talk to a doctor about it yet. I haven't seen my ob/gyn, but will be scheduling an appointment soon. I need my annual pap anyway and I figured it would be a chance to talk about my TTC issues as well.
1268578 tn?1274884217 Im scared I have luteal phase defect. Im going for bloodwork tomorrow which will be day 19 of my cycle. (6 dpo). Hopefully that will help, but I have been tracking my BBT, had a drop on day of ovulation, but have not seen a rise past my coverline. Also, I get my period 12dpo, which I know is a bit sooner than the normal. Has anybody else experienced this. I have been ttc for 5 MONTHS now.. I need somebody to talk to, I'm feeling very sad lately and like I'm losing all hope.
Avatar f tn Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped. That is why you are always to have a beta hCG blood draw on the 32-33 day of your cycle to see if pregnancy has taken place.
384150 tn?1399904816 Has anyone with a short luteral phase used the natural progesterone cream and found it helpful??
583196 tn?1429221155 hi there, curious to know about peoples experiences with using b6 to lengthen luteal phase. how did you use it and what were the results? did you find it helpful and would you recommend it? i've got a complex here that i'm planning on taking but would love to hear about everyones experiences. my last luteal phase was 10 days. i have one child and have had 2 miscarriages. and am having difficulty getting pregnant again. thanks!
283175 tn?1295537265 a certain amount of time is needed in order to achieve pregnancy.for anyone in this position, google luteal phase defect,it explains its not possible to concieve if you have a short luteal phase.same as women assuming pregnancy can occur during there period, this is not true.a woman can concieve during ovulation, typically 2 weeks give or take day or 2.
Avatar f tn We have had three unsucessful trys, no implantation but in lab the embyo will reach 7-8 cells when split and dividing. My transfer has always been a 5 day plan and they are saying that I have a Luteal Phase defect ? What is this and how can it be treated ?
Avatar n tn What is the luteal phase? I am trying to get pregnant and all this is really new to me.
972246 tn?1311088535 like smjmekg said, inorder to figure out what your luteal phase is you need to know when you ovulate...BBT charting is the best way. The ovulation predictor kits only tell you that you are LIKELY to ovulate in the next 24 hours...not that you definately will. BBT charting tells you that you have DEFINATELY ovulated with in the last 24 hours. Some people have what's called a luteal phase defect, meaning their LP is too short and not conducive to implantation.
Avatar f tn If your periods are short, then it could be that you have a luteal phase defect. The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and your next period. The average is two weeks (hence why I said you get your period 2 weeks after ovulation). A luteal phase of less than 10 days means you won't be able to conceive as there isn't enough time for the fertilized embryo to implant and let your body know of its existence.
Avatar f tn It could be okay, it could be too short, indicating a luteal phase defect. I had a 25 day cycle and LPD. You may have needed more than progesterone, but there are things that could have been tried. But 15 years ago, I don't know what the knowledge was at that time regarding treatment.
Avatar n tn This could be done by doing ovulation tests and once you get your positive, measuring the length of time unitl you get your period - the normal length of a luteal phase is 12-16 days, generally around 14-15 days - if this is the case for you -I would definitely say you do not have a luteal phase defect - but if your luteal phase is less than 12 days - then yes you may have a progesterone problem stemming from this.
