prometrium low progesterone

I am very worried as I just had a miscarriage in March 2009 with only one period in between then and it was June 9, 2009. Could low progesterone have been a factor in my first miscarriage? and what is the likely hood that I will be able to continue this pregnancy? Dr said could be a chemical pregnancy or we could have just miscalculated the ovulation dates. She mentioned starting me on progesterone therapy if the levels are raising. Any advice or suggestions?

I’m about 5 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy and I just got a called from my OB/GYN saying that I need to retake my labs for my progesterone level. I was informed that it was low. She didn’t mention that anything else was low so I am assuming everything else is okay. However, I was wondering if I was on Clomid during TTC, it shouldn’t be a surprise that my progesterone levels are low. Right? I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and what you have/had to do.

I have had two previous miscarriages due to low progesterone. I was prescribed prometrium and now im 12w2d. It was very effective for me.

I am now pregnant and doc is concerned with low hcg/progesterone levels. I have cycles that last 33-35 days, always an extra week in bewtween. Tomorrow I will know results of the second HCG and progesterone test. I am so worried. I have symptoms, but the doctor has a presription for prometrium on hold for me awaiting these results. Any thoughts??

My blood work shows positive result but the doctor said that my progesterone level is very low (6.5). I was advised to take prometrium. has anyone had a similar experience?? thanks!

Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.

My HCG levels are good but progesterone levels are low. Like it was 6.9 on 10th day post ET and went down to 5.0 on 13th day. I am worried, but my HCG levels went up from 104 to 434 on the 13th day. Does anybody know why it is dropping? I am taking crinone 8% gel twice a day. Please let me know if anybody experienced the same kind of situation.

I can't answer most of your questions I can only say that I've read many stories of women who have taken progesterone and carried to term, having healthy babies. Progesterone will only help if low progesterone levels are what's causing the m/c's. If it's chromosomal abnormalities or other things, progesterone most like will NOT stop a m/c from happening.

i have low progesterone. i took prometrium tho until 14 weeks then took weekly shots til this monday and it will be my last one but i get a knot from them half the time and it hurts so after monday im going back on prometrium until 36 weeks i believe.

I had a M/c 2 years ago. Spotted at 6 wks blood test showed low progesterone took inserts but eventually heart stopped at 7wks. Pregnant and went in for early progesterone test at 5wks, no bleeding. progesterone level 6 now taking inserts. Has anyone gone on to have a healthy baby incase such as this?

Hi There, My doc put me on progesterone two weeks ago when I first found out I was pregnant. I found it reassuring that lots of women use progesterone through the first trimester to help support the pregnancy. If your miscarriages are in fact from low progesterone then the prometrium will help. My levels were 13.8 for progesterone. Not sure how much the prometrium helps. I'm actually on something called Crinone which is taken vaginally.

so I doubt that you would need it.. most of the time low progesterone or luteal phase defect would show up on cd21 bloodwork, and have a short luteal phase.. i had spotting starting around 10dpo when my progesterone was low... you can buy progesterone cream otc, but not prometrium that i'm aware of! those are great numbers though! good luck!

My doctor knew at 5 weeks that my progesterone was low at 7.3. He kept telling me not to worry because the baby was growing and he said progesterone could cause "possible" defects in the baby. Yes lot of women with progesterone take prometrium during pregnancy! I myself took progesterone injections but its about the same thing. Ive read lots of posts where people were taking glucophage also and it seems to be helpful.

The prometrium is for low progesterone. It does not increase your HCG. As a rule, doctors like to see your Progesterone level above 20, mine was 13. If you were given prometrium I would suspect your progesterone is also low.
