Prometrium for menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for menopause

prometrium

Avatar n tn My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused. Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn.
Avatar n tn Sandy, Bio-identical hormones are drugs as defined by "something you take to have an effect on your body". They often are more effective at alleviating symptoms of menopause, less dangerous, and often less costly than patented pharmaceuticals they advertise heavily on TV and in magazines. Each patient is an individual. Some patients with a history of cancer, depending on the type (ER+ or not), can take hormones.
Avatar n tn ve said on a lot of posts today, you can buy a home test online. Just search for home menopause test kit and it will come up with loads of places you can buy one. They're very reliable and cheap and you perform a urine test like a pregnancy test. This will show you if you are menopausal, that is, if your FSH is in the menopausal range over 25, but it will not give a precise figure like a blood test will.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been taking Topomax for migraines for 1 1/2 yrs with very good results, in the last 6-8 months I have had very irregular menstrual bleeding ( cycles of 11-15 days) along with some more symptoms that suggest that something is off ( brittle nails, tiredness, sweat episodes, mood swings, weight gain especially around the abdominal area ). I am under some stress on a daily basis (small children, work shifts with long hours waking up at 3 a.m on some days and sometimes coming home at 6 a.
Avatar f tn It took awhile but it got under control and I now take only 2.5 mg of tapezole per day. I am still testing positive for antibodies so the endocrinologist wants me to continue. Last September I had my "female" hormone levels checked as things with my period were a little whonky - no period for three months and then three in a month. All my levels were within normal range and doc figured perimenopause.
Avatar f tn ve tested with ovulation kit and came out +ve for about to ovulate. After TTC, same month for the first time I missed my period by more than a week to-date. Took HPT and came out twice -ve. I'm stumped. Just passed my 41st birthday 2 months+ ago.
Avatar n tn t get in to see the Dr. for another 2 months I started taking 1 and 1/2 mg of Estrace for another month. I still didn't notice a difference after another month of experiementing so I took another 1/2 of estrace. The 2mg dose of estrace seemed to help with the mood swings but the sweating and frontal hair loss has been devastating to me to say the least. The Dr.
475404 tn?1286505024 Can anyone shed some more light for me because I am having a hard time explaining what is going on with me... I had an ectopic pregnancy surgery on April 27, 2008 resulting in losing my left tube. I bled for about 7-8 days after surgery which I believe was just from surgery and all that trauma I went through... anyway, I have not had a cycle since. My husband and I continued ttc beginning the 10th of May. Nothing.
Avatar f tn I stopped the Prometrium for 10 days and MY BLEEDING STOPPED ENTIRELY so it has to be the Prometrium. I know I need progesterone as still have my uterus but am I the only one that is seeing this happen? I was told by Sott Pelle providers that a women minimally needs progesterone 14 days every third month. Can someone tell me their experience with this?
Avatar f tn I went through the saliva hormonal testing and found out that I am in menopause ....... being estrogen dominant. I am taking prometrium, 200 mg at night. My night sweats are gone - but I still don't feel energized. My T3, Reverse levels are at 36 -- a little high with normal being 11-32 ng/dL. No meds were given to me on this. Do I need to be on meds to keep this stablized? And I need someone to explain the Reverse T3 to me.
Avatar f tn I started a period after I stopped the pill this past September and have not had one since even after a round of Prometrium. My FSH is 26.1 and now my MD wants me to come in and take another FSH test to find out if I am menopausal. I guess he knows best, but I thought the test would be more accurate on day 3, but he said if I can't start it may be because of low estrogen/menopause. I can't do a day 3 b/c I can't start a period.
377493 tn?1356502149 They would come about every 2 weeks for about 8 to 10 days. I bled pretty much all the time (it seemed) for those last 6 months. Then, one day it just never showed up anymore. Maybe other who have gone thru menopause have had different experiences, but my other friends who have gone thru menopause were more like me....their period got worse, not lessened. Hope it is the clomid!
Avatar f tn I understand your fear as I never want to take any HRT when the times comes as I have been on them for 7 yrs for Endometriosis and just recently came off it. Sleeping is the hard thing. I have that issue as well. Have you tried Valarian before? Anyways these are just my suggestions as I am not a doctor just a person who has dealt with major hormone issues since I was 15. I am 34 now.
1404364 tn?1289431561 My cycle is nowhere to be seen (not totally uncommon for me) and my last period was in mid-December. My OB was fine with giving me an Rx for BC pills to induce a bleed, but when I called the RE's office, she said that I shouldn't start them and that we will talk about an alternate route at the appt. Now I'm just curious what types of drugs they would put me on? Are there stronger injectibles to induce a period?
Avatar f tn I also have anxiety go to along with this great menopause thing. Can someone tell me what i need to do to get my life back the way it used to be.
Avatar f tn The difference in cost for me is $120 versus $20 for a 3-month mail-order prescription. I am willing to pay $400 a year extra for the lessened symptoms, but others might be financially unable. I have heard that some women change their weekly patch every 5 days with their doctors' approval and the approval of their insurance companies.
Avatar n tn To help me avoid radical menopause sypmtoms, my doctor immediately started me on a .5 mg. Vivelle-dot estrogen patch after surgery, and I felt fine. Two weeks later, he added a 100 mg. daily dose of prometrium to my HRT therapy to avoid recurrence of endometriosis growth. My problem is that I am having unpleasant side effects from the prometrium, including exhaustion, minor headache, and lightheadedness. I don't like how it makes me feel.
Avatar n tn I too am having the same problem, but I took Prometrium after a miscarriage. Still no period for me. I was told that it could take 7-10 days. I have read a lot online about Asherman's. I am scarred that is what it is.
688845 tn?1325182236 m curious because I to was put on 200mg vaginaly of prometrium. My hcg was at 23 and I feel thats low. I go back on Monday for a re-draw and count again.
Avatar f tn Everything is going great. I am on baby aspirin a day and 200mg 2x prometrium. its working for me! progesterone does an amazing job at holding pregnancies, and the baby asprin is to thin you blood so more goes to the uterus. This can also help if you have a blood clotting issue. i have never been tested for anything but i wanted to try 1 more time first with these medicines and i believe its really helping me.
Avatar f tn Hi,I was put on hormones in aug after being off them for 8 years,dr gave me the patch but it wouldnt stay on so she switched me to menest,i actually felt pretty good on it but developed a uti and was put on macrobid, then i had my hormones blood levels done and new dr said my uti was clear and she put me on estratest well we had to stop that as my heart was racing all the time ,and then i developed a yeast infection and vaginal infection.
Avatar f tn I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
Avatar m tn I'm 56 and not in menopause and I have no idea when it will happen. My last hormone tests show my estrogen to be decreasing - it was at level 53 but my FSH was only 4! I am trying to control my wacky and heavy bleeding with progestins with mixed results. Prometrium isn't working well and Aygestin is giving me cramps. I am considering having an endometrial ablation done which is an hour long procedure, they do a D&C, a histerscopy and the burning out the lining.
