Prometrium dosage for menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium dosage for menopause

prometrium

Avatar n tn My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused. Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn.
Avatar f tn I was put on Liothyronine (generic to cytomel) a week ago and starting off at 12.5 mg at this time. I had a surge of energy for the first 2-3 days ........now I am feeling like I was beforehand. I'm suppose to be taking this dosage for 2 weeks, but I'm going to call the doctor's office to see if I can go ahead and take the 25 mg. Has anyone had experience with these meds .... wondering if there is any difference between the cytomel and the generic Liothyronine?
Avatar n tn Sandy, Bio-identical hormones are drugs as defined by "something you take to have an effect on your body". They often are more effective at alleviating symptoms of menopause, less dangerous, and often less costly than patented pharmaceuticals they advertise heavily on TV and in magazines. Each patient is an individual. Some patients with a history of cancer, depending on the type (ER+ or not), can take hormones.
440728 tn?1234645302 I just want to know if anyone gets this in the last year of menopause and if so does it finally end when you finish meno completely. I would be very grateful for anyones help here. Thank you.
377493 tn?1356502149 Ok, so just got my prescription filled for progesterone supplements. This time it's a higher dosage...200mg X3, and it's the first time they have been prescribed to me in the form of vaginal suppositories. I have taken them orally in the past (as per my OB), but my RE prefers them vaginally, mainly due to side effects like being tired. And because this is a higher dosage then I've taken before, she's thinks this will be easier for me.

Avatar n tn The general rule of thumb about HRT of any kind, seems to be to take the minimum dosage necessary to control symptoms, for the shortest period of time. If this is not helping, why not ask your doc about slowly getting off of them? Again, ask....don't take my word for it! :) It seems to me that perhaps, your insomnia may not be due to hormone levels in totality.
Avatar n tn ve said on a lot of posts today, you can buy a home test online. Just search for home menopause test kit and it will come up with loads of places you can buy one. They're very reliable and cheap and you perform a urine test like a pregnancy test. This will show you if you are menopausal, that is, if your FSH is in the menopausal range over 25, but it will not give a precise figure like a blood test will.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been taking Topomax for migraines for 1 1/2 yrs with very good results, in the last 6-8 months I have had very irregular menstrual bleeding ( cycles of 11-15 days) along with some more symptoms that suggest that something is off ( brittle nails, tiredness, sweat episodes, mood swings, weight gain especially around the abdominal area ). I am under some stress on a daily basis (small children, work shifts with long hours waking up at 3 a.m on some days and sometimes coming home at 6 a.
294043 tn?1354207946 I was on one a day and it worked great for me! Although, I should probably mention that I was on a lower dose prometrium a day too...but I don't think that did much compared to the crinone gel. Plus the pills are just horrible...made me sooo dizzy. But if you want, you could probably ask your doctor for a prometrium prescription, too...just as a back-up. As for the discharge, it probably won't show up right away.
Avatar f tn I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8. This increased to 18, so he prescribed an additional 100mg. Her level subsequently rose to >60, at which point she became extremely symptomatic (i.e. nausea, etc.) He decreased her dosage back to 200mg, and her level fell back down to 39. This seems to conflict w/ my doctor's theory that raising the dosage above 200mg will not increase your levels.
Avatar f tn It took awhile but it got under control and I now take only 2.5 mg of tapezole per day. I am still testing positive for antibodies so the endocrinologist wants me to continue. Last September I had my "female" hormone levels checked as things with my period were a little whonky - no period for three months and then three in a month. All my levels were within normal range and doc figured perimenopause.
Avatar f tn So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days. I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting. Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps. I have 3 days left of the Prometrium (after today) and he had said I wouldn't start until 3-7 days after. The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first).
Avatar f tn ve tested with ovulation kit and came out +ve for about to ovulate. After TTC, same month for the first time I missed my period by more than a week to-date. Took HPT and came out twice -ve. I'm stumped. Just passed my 41st birthday 2 months+ ago.
Avatar f tn t know should I find another doctor....Would it be OK to come off Prometrium all of a sudden and I should reduce my dosage to once a day...Please help..so confused...
Avatar m tn Is the dr going to test you every other day to see if the progesterone levels increase so they will know if they should increase the dosage or if it is fine at the dosage they have you on? I take prometrium when I get pregnant and have found that it has a great effect on helping the progesterone levels.
Avatar n tn t get in to see the Dr. for another 2 months I started taking 1 and 1/2 mg of Estrace for another month. I still didn't notice a difference after another month of experiementing so I took another 1/2 of estrace. The 2mg dose of estrace seemed to help with the mood swings but the sweating and frontal hair loss has been devastating to me to say the least. The Dr.
Avatar m tn During the peri-menopausal years (the 10 to 15 years before menopause) and menopause (menopause means one year with no periods), it is common for women to suffer a multitude of hormonal complaints. Hot flashes, night sweats and sleep disturbances are common complaints during this time in a woman's life. Most would think these symptoms are associated with a decline in estrogen, but they are also hallmark symptoms of low thyroid, especially night sweats and insomnia.
475404 tn?1286505024 Can anyone shed some more light for me because I am having a hard time explaining what is going on with me... I had an ectopic pregnancy surgery on April 27, 2008 resulting in losing my left tube. I bled for about 7-8 days after surgery which I believe was just from surgery and all that trauma I went through... anyway, I have not had a cycle since. My husband and I continued ttc beginning the 10th of May. Nothing.
Avatar f tn I stopped the Prometrium for 10 days and MY BLEEDING STOPPED ENTIRELY so it has to be the Prometrium. I know I need progesterone as still have my uterus but am I the only one that is seeing this happen? I was told by Sott Pelle providers that a women minimally needs progesterone 14 days every third month. Can someone tell me their experience with this?
Avatar f tn As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day. I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.
Avatar n tn I can't stand this any more! Mental pause!! Hi, I'm Vicki, I'm on meds for menopause plus thyrod meds for about 3 years. 5618825 tn?1371044135 Never had sleep problems before until getting menopause. I take now 2 days of 1/2 pill of estrogen red pill and every 2 days medroxy progesterone. I hadn't taken it for quite a long time but started again after reading it prevents thickening of walls. I awake around 3 and have a hard time sleeping. I started taking on the shelf after midnight. This works for 4 hrs now I am wondering about melatonin. I tried two 5mg at 3 and couldn't sleep at all. Finally did at 6. Guess was too much.
