Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium fertility

prometrium

Avatar f tn I have had 2 miscarriages, both at around 6 weeks. I was transfered to a fertility clinic late last year. The fertility doc wants me to take 400g of prometrium from 4dpo to 13dpo. He says it doesn't matter whether I'm pregnant or not as the progesterone only helps during implantation and according to him stopping if I am pregnant will not have a negative effect as a valid pregnancy will generate enough progesterone on its own.
Avatar f tn I have had 3 miscarriages. I under went every possible fertility test possible. They found absolutely nothing wrong with me nor my husband. I am now pregnant again. My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...
Avatar f tn Ladies were any of you were/are on Prometrium. I was on it since week 6 till week 15. I am so concerned about it leaving any effects on fetus. Does anyone know anything about it?
1160986 tn?1486819725 Thanks! I just wondered if Prometrium thickens your lining whether it makes AF heavier. DPeters I know what you mean. I told a few people was well and it was hard after telling them all the bad news. I'm with you. Next time I'm not telling anyone ( except DH and you guys of course). I'm hopeful about Round 2 as well which Im definitely ready for... But still waitingfor AF. Funny when youvwant it to come it's late and when you don't it shows it's ugly face!!
Avatar n tn I saw some mucus tissue pass. The doctor has done several lab tests. all which are normal. He suggests clomid and prometrium pills. I am apprehensive about progesterone pills and birth defects. These pregnancys are by the same father. Do you have any suggestions? Does this form of treatment sound like the next step? My doctor is a obgyn.
Avatar n tn I have been using ovulation predictor kits since I do not ovulate regularly. My gynoncologist has also put me on Prometrium to enduce my periods. I return to my gynecologist in November for my normal well-woman checkup, and she told me if I am not pregnant by then, we would take the next step of being referred to a fertility specialist. Any ideas of what could possibly be interfering with my ability to get pregnant?
Avatar f tn The pattern was the same in all three case, lower progesterone levels. After the first miscarriage , I was asked to take baby aspirin and prometrium with the subsequent pregnancy. I anyway miscarried. I was referred to a reproductive endocrinologist. He checked for genetic disorders in both me and my husband. He did the clomid challenge test , checked for abnormalities in the uterine wall , checked thyroid level , blood sugar. Everything came back normal.
290867 tn?1333569278 For the last few months I have been super late getting AF and have had to call my doctor about getting put on prometrium..Well he said if I am still not having my peroid with out prometrium he will need to put me on Clomid! I thought that was a fertility drug! I would love to get pregnant but have never heard of that being used to help get peroids regulated! I am agian late for AF this month. Due on the 18th and no sign of it comming! light crampiness but nothing else!
543791 tn?1216381777 My doctor referred me to a fertility specialist and they were able to work me in quickly. My appointment is today @ 2. I hope they find a simple cause for my m/c's, keep your fingers crossed. I'll update you tomorrow. I asked what to expect when seeing a fertility doctor and I didn't get a lot of responses. So I'll add updates along the way for the next person. I'm trying to be positive and happy that I can at least get pregnant.

Avatar f tn I have not yet received any results back from the blood work at the fertility clinic (mmm, I wonder how long it will take), and I have to go in on Christmas Eve for cycle monitoring Day 10 (fun stuff). In the meantime, because I've m/c twice in the past (which is why I'm at said fertility clinic), my Dr. told me he'll be putting me on progesterone as soon as I conceive. And I should begin taking baby aspirin right away.
Avatar f tn A number of 80 seems very high for your age...I wonder if there could be another reason for the high number. I'm not really familiar with what is normal when going through premature ovarian failure; but in general, normal levels are between 3 and 20, with 20 being very hard to stimulate. If I were you, I would ask your doctor for a referral to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist...or fertility specialist).
Avatar f tn Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.
Avatar n tn Im on Clomid 100mg and as of the 18th of this month i have started taking Prometrium 200mg....my fertility doctor has told me to take these and to also take a preggo test next week if it says not preggo for me to continue taking the Prometrium untel I start my cycle. With all 3 m/c i never carried past 6 weeks....I can tell you that here in North Carolina that the Prometrium 200 mg's 16 pills cost $ 75.00....Also to Lilyb is this doctor you are talking to is it a obgyn ???
Avatar f tn Well, I have pcos too and my doctor put me on metformin 500mg three times a day and prometrium 200mg twice a day for 10 days each month. The metformin is good for me insulin levels and working with the prometrium my periods have come back after years of not having one. If your periods aren't coming and you're not ovulating it's so hard to have a baby. Ask your doc about putting you on metformin and prometrium or clomid. :) Good luck!
1277616 tn?1284641425 Hello all...I guess I don't really have a question...but more of a statement..I am in my 2ww...8dptrigger, 7dpo and 6dp first round of IUI..and I am going freaking crazy!! I am on 600mcg's of Prometrium daily and just don't feel like myself!! The wait is unbelievable and I can't stop thinking about pregnancy, babies, success rates and failing. So I guess I do have a question....Does anyone else feel this way? Or has felt this way?
Avatar f tn As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day. I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.
907699 tn?1251630847 I am on 50mg of progesterone suppositories that have to be made at a compounding pharmacy. I get mine shipped and they are working cuz my temps have gone up. The suppositories go straight to the area needed from what I hear.
Avatar f tn I have my blood test on Monday. I am still taking Prometrium suppositories. Do you know if Prometrium will delay a period? I was gonna call my dr today but I feel like a nag!
Avatar f tn I always get itchy and yeasty towards the end of a fertility treatment cycle because I use the progesterone vaginal suppositories (prometrium). When it's gotten really bad, I asked my OBGYN and they said it was OK to use the external cream that usually comes with the monistat suppositories. I do NOT use the monistat suppository, just the cream that comes with it and only externally. It seems to help.
687419 tn?1247029794 I did progesterone in oil shots as my supplement (IVF) but there are lots of women here and on the fertility forum who've done the prometrium vaginal suppositories so you're not alone. One more thing - if you start to get dehydrated (it's uncommon but happens), see your doctor. There are safe anti-nausea meds to try and they help tremendously - best of luck to you and congrats!
