Prometrium birth control

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium birth control

prometrium

Avatar m tn She ended up becoming very anxious while on the medication, so her doctor told her to stop and take birth control starting on her next cycle. My wife did not take the birth control, as we were in the process of moving and she wanted to consult a doctor in our new city. Since stopping the Prometrium, we've noticed that she has the following symptoms. 1. Her periods have been intermittent. 2. Her breasts have been sore. 3. She has been unusually tired. And 4.
Avatar n tn Thanks, I've been bouncing between my endo and my obgyn...they seem to agree, but I'll call by obgyn. In the past when I was on two different types of birth control my blood sugars were elevated...wondering if I'm an exception to the rule?
327405 tn?1223239755 My OBGYN prescribed me Prometrium - a progesterone supplement because he said I wasn't ovulating and this would help. He said if this didn't work then he would put me on birth control for 2 months because that would help also. Well the Prometrium (I took for 12 nights in a row) ended up working and I got pregnant with the ovulation that occured right after taking the Prometrium. I don't know what provera is (depo?), but you might want to ask him about that.
1262373 tn?1281543782 t know it until cycle day 28 or so - My question is will taking the prometruim make my cycle start even if I conceive therefore causing an abortion?? Does the prometruim function like birth control causing your cycle to start or will my period only start if I don't ovulate or conceive? Thanks for your help ladies!!
Avatar f tn The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first). Sooooo, my question is, has anyone started bleeding before finishing Prometrium??? I'm just confused because this would make bleeding for one week on, one week off, one week on, one week off and now a week later again!! Just a little confused and any information would be helpful.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would recommend using something to induce ovulation rather than birth control. I personally like Femara, but many people use Clomid too. It is possible that you would only need to use it for one cycle, and your own cycles would kick in after that. There is nothing wrong with using birth control, it is just going to take a lot longer to get results that way! I hope this is helpful!
1029532 tn?1267188167 I went to the dr recently and they did a bunch of tests. the dr started me on birth control pills to try to regulate my period then i received a call stating my uterine lining is a little thicker than usual. Can this be contributing to me being unable to conceive? I just want to know if anyone can relate. I really need some encouragment. HELP!
Avatar f tn your doctor is correct. Prometrium COULD cause birth defects. I was told to take it from weeks 10 through 13. I miscarried at 15 weeks and 6w4d (I have no living children) so my fertility specialist & OBGyn. thought that as a precaution I should be on it to help my body transfer from producing it naturally to having the placenta take over. (They thought that is what may have caused my 1st miscarriage). Prometrium is one of the most misused and abused medications during pregnancy.

760797 tn?1303264540 s probably not THAT different in risk factors as taking hormonal birth control as bc is progesterone based and at levels needed to make your body essentially think it's pregnant. That being said I don't have any research done on the difference in dose between progesterone supplements for what you are using vs bc pills and the difference. AND I'm not trying to minimize the risk factors that are present in bc pills.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to regulate your cycle after getting off of birth control? I've taken it since I was 19 and am 38 now. In recent years, I switch to Seasonale and took it back to back (no placebos at the end of 3 months) with my doctor's approval. I started a period after I stopped the pill this past September and have not had one since even after a round of Prometrium. My FSH is 26.
514684 tn?1211462108 I'm new to this site, such a wealth of information. We've been really trying on and off for 5 years now. I stopped having periods and don't ovulate on a regular basis. My OBGYN says she thinks I have POF but not sure because of underlined issues with my thyroid. Only time I do have a period is if I'm on birth control. Although I get the good ol cramps/PMS like clockwork but nothing happens.
Avatar n tn Have I been taking the prog wrong this whole time?  Am I using it like birth control?  My RE told me to just stop taking it this month all together (I'm 5dpo and have been taking since 1dpo) because basically I screwed this month up and I have little shot at becoming pregnant. Does anyone know anything about this?
Avatar f tn Prometrium (human progesterone) sustains a pregnancy - my husband (a pharmacist) said in his professional opinion, he has never heard of prometrium causing any birth defects. I took progesterone for almost 13 weeks after conceiving my baby and he was just fine as many others have on this forum. I wouldn't worry about it and let me add a big congrats on your pregnancy!!

Avatar f tn The progesterone that is in the birth control pill or Provera is man-made and may be related to bad side effects when taken during a pregnancy. These forms of progesterone should never be used whenever a woman may be pregnant. Does the FDA having any warnings for Progesterone? Yes. The FDA requires that all forms of progesterone have a warning label on them. Even though it has this warning label, natural progesterone does not increase the chance of birth defects or congenital anomalies.
Avatar f tn I went back on birth control that week, but within six weeks after my miscarriage I was pregnant again ( the DR told me birthcontrol is not as effect after a miscarriage, because you are more furtile). Because of the miscarriage and how soon i became pregnant again my doctor put me on the same medication, but did retest later and my level was fine. I carried the baby to term and had a healthy baby.
Avatar f tn problem two, In 2005 i had a precancerous mass removed from my breast caused by the estrogen in bc, my oncologist says no birth control. so this is when I was reffered to my fourth doctor, who told me that he thinks because of my family history (two great aunts died from breast cancer) stopping ttc would be in my best interest. he said the increased estrogen from pregnancy could cause another more serious mass.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
Avatar f tn Ladies were any of you were/are on Prometrium. I was on it since week 6 till week 15. I am so concerned about it leaving any effects on fetus. Does anyone know anything about it?
Avatar n tn Thank You all for listening. My doctor put me on birth control and she told me to take it for 6 months to regulate my periods. I had a period while I was on the pill but when I stopped taking it, my periods stopped also. Then she gave me some hormone medicine to help me to have a period and I had one then also but then I didn't have another one. I have no idea what is wrong and I can't have a baby without your help. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
Avatar n tn Yes it's very easy. You can either get your doc to do a blood test for FSH which will show you if you are in the menopause or even post menopausal. Or as I've said on a lot of posts today, you can buy a home test online. Just search for home menopause test kit and it will come up with loads of places you can buy one. They're very reliable and cheap and you perform a urine test like a pregnancy test.
Avatar n tn I am 28, been off birth control for 8 months and have not had a period, and I am not pregnant. The doctor basically told me she will not help until I have been off the pill for a year. I am really concerned that I am not having periods, is this a sign of something serious and should my doctor be running tests to make sure I do not have POS or some other fertility threatening disease? Of course I want to be pregnant, but I want to know why I am not having periods more.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and last time I conceived was in 1993. and i was on birth control since my last baby was born.. 14 years on birth control... After the surgery... I waited for my period to come and didn't come. It's suppose to come in May 2nd. I called the doctor and he told me usually after the surgery, period will be mess up for couple cycles.. Somehow my body changed.. my boobs were sore and I feel fatigue. I called again and he told me take pregnancy test.
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
Avatar f tn Hi, I also have very long cycles, I take progesterone for 10 days to have a period every month, what birth control did your doc put you on? when i was on birth control i usually started the day after my last pill. I am currently on my third month of clomid (150mg) and i still haven't ovulated, however i have two friends who took clomid one got pregnant on her first month (50mg) and the other on her second month (100mg), so there is hope...
