he’s been on prednisone and Zyrtec the prednisone clears it up after seven days but then they come right back and then he goes right back on prednisone. He has had an blood allergy test and it came back negative on everything. he has a dermatology appointment on Thursday I don’t want to put him back on prednisone again he’s gaining weight the Zyrtec does nothing and he has not been on any antibiotics.
My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with angioedema about 2 months ago. It started with lip swelling (like someone punched her), and whelps. My pediatrician told me that everytime her lips swelled that she was eating something that she was allergic to. She is such a picky eater that I knew when she ate the same things over and over that this couldn't be it. We took her to an allergy doctor and he did an allergy test. It basically came back normal.
Treatment is by antihistaminics like Benadryl or Zyrtec and steroids. If the symptoms persist then please get it evaluated from a physician. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
My son was diognosed with mild to moderate tracheomalacia. He is on Nasonex and Zyrtec to control post nasal drip and use Atravent as needed to help minimize cough. He has just come off 7 days of 30mg of Prednisone to treat severe coughing episode. I was told there isn't any other medication or treatment for him. Night time coughing is very bad for him. Even after coming off the prednisone and the breathing treatments don't help much.
Is there nothing else that can be done.
I have been prescribed loratadine, hydroxyzine, 6 days of 20mgs of prednisone...the prednisone helped a little, but was back to square one after it ran out. The hydroxizine only helps if I take 30mgs at a time rather than spread out throughout the day. The loratadine seems to do nothing. I ended up back in the ER after a day of being at work and symptoms not going away after being at home. I was given a shot of 125mg of steroids and a medrol dose pack.
(I have lots of sinus infections, have had surgery on my sinuses, etc.) Doc gave me a z-pack and prednisone. Suggested I try Claritin or zyrtec to see if allergies are triggering all of this. Claritin is helping a lot with the post nasal drip, but now the junk in my chest seems tight and I have a dry, unproductive cough. Should I try mucinex to loosen up the chest and continue with Claritin?
In the past I have taken Zyrtec, Claritin, and Xyzal....Zyrtec seems to work best for me. You can get both Zyrtec and Claritin over the counter, and both come in a generic form (I take the generic form of Zyrtec). This helped my allergies tremendously, I would recommend taking one daily while your symptoms are in full-force, and then backing off to just whenever it's needed when your symptoms settle down.
He took prednisone and zyrtec and benadryl to get it under control but has been off all meds since 1 month prior to all blood work. The allergist has been unable to find a cause for the hives. He has a history of seasonal allergies and some sinus infections. Can you give me some insight as to a cause for the low white blood cells and low T4? He has not been sick recently.
hi and welcome to our forum. your poor kitty sounds like he has alot going on and still he's very active. STEROIDS are NOT good for cats. they can lead to many long term problems, even 1 dose can lead to DIABETES in cats.
Is the Vet prescribing this for some sort of pain control, for inflammation? There MUST be a a very good reason for wanting a kitty to take this medication.

sometimes it would be red dots and other times it would spread into large red patches. i was on prednisone for about two and a half weeks and came off it last week. ive been taking benadryll 25mg and zyrtec 10mg regularly, and the rash had all disappeared except that my cheeks and palms still get flushed when im nervous, cold or take a hot shower.
I am also taking albuterol inhaler 4 times a day, went through a 10 day course of antibiotics, and 2 courses of prednisone, as well as zyrtec. I am still not getting relief...I am calling my doc again tomorrow. I thought for sure the Advair would knock it. My cough and wheezing just hangs on. It is a whistling, wheezing, crackling sound in my throat. It keeps me awake and is driving me crazy! This has been going on about 6 weeks now. Enough is enough. I am desperate to get relief...
I went to prompt care, were I received a steroid injection and a three week Prednisone 10mg tapper. Without relief, I sought the help of a high recommended dermatologist. Upon being seen I was given another steroid injection, Periactin 4mg/ 3x daily, Atrax 25mg/ 2 tablets up to 4x daily and Triamcinolone (topical). I also had several blood test and a chest x-ray, which all came back fine. I continued to develop giant hives daily.

This went on until February of this year, when my wife and I asked the doctor to check for some other problem… he diagnosed him with asthma and acid-reflux. He was placed on two inhalers.. (Qvar 80mcg & ProAir HFA), as well as zantac 150mg.
Since the time that my son was placed on this medicine, he has begun to have constant coughing attacks.

I have just come off a long (20 days on) and high dose (up to 120mg ) of Prednisone (as treatment for what condition ? my Doctor says he does not know! OMG) . I just finally ended the prednisone two days ago. HERE IS ONE OF MY QUESTIONS: Four days ago my lymph nodes became engorged swollen under chin-neck area was hard as a rock. I was getting ready to go to E-care when I noticed a RASH on my upper back and a little under breast and cleavage area..(mostly on my back).
I have been on prednisone for 10 weeks. I have been taking 2 Zyrtec a day; 2 Zantac a day; Atarax 2 every 4-6 hours. I have determined that mine is related to Red #40 dye and preservatives in foods such as pre-packaged salads. I have also determined that mine is related to fast food restaurants such as McDonald's and Sonic, where at both restaurants I ingested hamburgers. With the Sonic Hamburger I ended up in the ER with my throat and tongue swelling.
Back in March of this year I slowly started developing hives all over my body. I tried to control it for a month with Benadryl and after a trip to a local FastMed a prescription for Prednisone, which seemed to work. And then the RETURNED but stronger!! After being told "we don't know" from three allergiests, I tried my luck with a dermatologist who only gave me a topical cream, also didn't work.
I get this itchy red rash when i sweat, and I get hives when i sweat in the water. Claritin does not help, and I refused to take Prednisone from my doctor (for many reasons). Ive traveled to a lot of tropical places, so i took a natural anti-parasite medication, but it did not help. Is there a correlation between urticaria and a yeast overload? Also, where should i go next to try and relieve this problem? Thanks!
