Paxil for kids

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for kids

paxil

Avatar f tn My husband and I are trying to have kids. We have been trying for only a few month, however, we are not young anymore (35) and I don't want to wait a year before consulting with a doctor (as it usually recommended). So here is my question: My husband has been taking paxil for the past 13 years (10mg). From the research online I found out that paxil changes sperm DNA that reduces permeability and as a result reduces the chance for pregnancy.
18283265 tn?1463778032 Hi all. I am a 49 year old female who has been on paxil for almost 20 years. When pregnant with my first son, about 18 years ago, I weaned off it over a few weeks and did okay. Granted I had only been on it a few years at that time. Due to recurrence of anxiety I went back on it before he was born and have been on it every since. Was doing very well for years at a low dose of 10mg. Then in early 40s started feeling more anxiety which I think was related to hormonal changes.

Avatar n tn My daughter is thirty seven years old. She is addicted to Paxil for depression and anxiety for two years. She was in a abusive marriage. Her husband is an functional alcoholic. He mentally, verbally abusive her and her two small children. She will be divorced from him January 8 2009. Her behavior is out of control. She doesn't want to get off of the medicine slowly. She feels that she needs it. She imagines that she is other peoples personality. She claims that I beat her as a child.
382594 tn?1266610613 As far as weight gain I gained but it was due to other meds than the paxil at this time because when I took it several yrs b4 my kids I didnt gain any weight..For me the paxil has been a lifesaver and its been on the market several yrs now..So, it can be trusted alot more than these new meds that are comming out..It takes several days to start feeling the effects of the medication..You should be able to tell pretty quick if you are going to react good or bad to it...
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
Avatar n tn That helped a lot. Good Luck when you try it. I saw so many horrible comments about effexor but I guess everyone's reaction to meds are just different. No a perk was that it curbed my appetite but I wouldn't take it just for that reason. I am getting very anxious and irritable more and more. I think it's best for my health and I don't want my kids to suffer.
Avatar m tn Since the Lexapro didn't work for you, it could be like starting over, and you need to give the Paxil more time to build up in your system (4-6 weeks). It could be your body adjusting to the switch. I think it's both, along with all the switching around of medications. Within a few weeks you should start to feel better. If you are ever really concerned about anything with your medication, call your doctor.
701334 tn?1262853503 I was given Paxil for my first medication for anxiety and depression. Let's just say it made me feel like I could run a 10 mile marathon in 2 minutes. Not good for someone who was already climbing the walls. It also made me have weird vision. I would see white lines squiggling in my peripheral vision. Scary. It also blurred my vision in one very small spot. Needless to say, I stopped taking it. I was then prescribed Lexapro.

Avatar m tn Also, you need to have alternate plan in place foe treating whatever the original reason for the Paxil was (depression, anxiety, both). I would recommend seeing a psychiatrist for that. You're in my thoughts, I really do hope you feel better soon. Also, maybe this will be a little bit of a tough lesson for you as to WHY it is never good to stop ANY med abruptly, without the blessing of our doctors. Do let us know how you're doing!
Avatar f tn 1. is it normal for these symptoms to get worse (I have not eaten or slept pretty much and have lost 10 pounds and have crazy anxious thoughts) 2. what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
Avatar f tn All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse. I tried lexapro and it didn't help.
Avatar f tn First, why are you taking the Paxil? Why Paxil? For some people, a given antidepressant can be very stimulating, and can also cause personality changes and odd thoughts. This is said to be more common with young people, but can happen to anyone, and it's more common with, say, Prozac or the snris which are more stimulating than with Paxil, but you are the only you. Again, if anxiety isn't your problem, why are you taking Paxil? For depression?
Avatar n tn I was on Paxil for some time and my doctor said you can't go off it cold turkey. You really should talk to your MD about going off and the dosage reduction over a period of time.
Avatar f tn My 'shrink' took me off Concerta and prescribed Wellbritin HCL SR (100mg 2X a day). Doesn't work at all ... ha...didn't even stop me from smoking!!! I already take Paxil for anxiety. My 2 adult children take Adderall and are doing just fine. Doc keeps telling me ADD meds are 'too addicting'. What the heck ... I just want my ADD to be under control so I can cope with accomplishing day to day tasks !!!
Avatar f tn Hey, for me Paxil did the trick! It took awhile to kick in, but when it did, it worked great. I took 10mg for 6 months and then bumped it up to 20mg for another 6 months...currently on it still...trying to get off of it soon though...hope you find something that helps you.
397118 tn?1219762250 The xanax was to help with the anxiety attacks until the paxil sort of kicked in .It takes a few weeks for the paxil to begin working, like the zoloft and other drugs of that nature. She said she never got a buzz or anything like that from it.It helped to control her anxiety attacks, and lessen the severity of them when one did occur.I hope this helps a little.Praying for you.Peace.
Avatar f tn Hi! I started paxil six weeks ago for anxiety. I started at 10 for the first week and then up to 20. At four weeks the doctor suggested I increase to 40 because I wasn't having any improvement. I didn't go all the way to 40mg, but I have felt better since going up to 30mg. Today, I have all my anxiety back. I was looking for some help/advice. I also take lorazapem in the mornings. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I have anxiety for no reason at all which baffles me and keeps my mind going nuts most of the time. For the better part of 10 years my issue was controlled through paxil or paxil cr and a little bit of Clonazepam. Over the past year, my anxiety has gotten much worse and paxil doesn't seem to work anymore like it did. Over the past 5 months I have come off of paxil, switched to Lexapro, switched back to Paxil CR upping my dose (50mg) to see if that would work.
Avatar f tn I'm a 36 year-old male. I've been taking 40mg of Paxil for 10 years. I have to take the name-brand, because the generic doesn't work for me (tried 3 different times). A few weeks ago, the old feelings of anxiety started creeping back in. Racing thoughts, sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, overwhelming sense of fear, etc. Now, I am feeding that anxiety with more fear. I am afraid that Paxil isn't working anymore, and I am scared that I will have to come off of it.
Avatar f tn SHe told me to keep taking Paxil for just a week which she perscribed me cymbalta for 30 mg for a week with the paxil then she has me on 60 mg of Cymbalta and she told me to stop taking Paxil when i start taking 60mg. So is she weaning me off the Paxil along with the Cymbalta? And is this safe for a week of taking cymbalta 30mg and Paxil 20mg for a week?
2216810 tn?1420856876 First, psychologists don't prescribe or recommend medications, psychiatrists do. Psychologists do talk therapy, and given you say anxiety is just starting to rear up, you might want to try therapy before medication because therapy can cure the problem and medication can only tamp down the symptoms. Second, nobody can tell you that you have to take any particular med. That's up to you. They can recommend, but can't force it on you.
Avatar m tn Hi! I have been taking Paxil for 20 years. I have recently been struggling w/ more intense anxiety and depression and irritability. I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart.
1550654 tn?1294747554 Do you think that this will help me as i cannot work or even take care of my kids? Please tell me what to do guys...I am so very scared for my life but i am scared of side effects and such?
Avatar f tn And then i freak out more. Its very important to me to live a long and healthy life for my kids and also not to imbue their childhood with a rotten sense of fear. I want them to grow up feeling nurtured by the world. The thing is (i know it was probably silly) i googled my syptoms and it comes back with all sorts of things. Lyme disease, tumor etc... could go on here. Does anyone here forget how to spell words sometimes or forget a word? Do you get weak feeling in your hands or arms?
Avatar f tn I have been on paxil for ten years and the last year and a half it has not worked like it use to. So my doctor started weaning me off paxil 50mg to 40mg for a week then 30mg for three days then 20mg of paxil at night with 25mg of zoloft also at night.I seen the doctor again today and now Im taking 50 mg of zoloft in the morning and 20mg of paxil at night. The reson that I have been on ssri"s is for terrible panic attacks with agoraphobia.
