1560663 tn?1298050127 Also try and brush your cats, even if you think they have short hair and don't need it, it's not true, if you don't brush your cats they can develop hairballs that cannot be passed. In cats with megacolon or chronic constipation the last thing you need is something else to block your cat. Like you all know I have 7 cats and I manage to brush them all, even if its a little bit every few days.
Avatar f tn For Anorexia (not eating), use appetite stimulant medications. For Dehydration, use IV and/or Sub Q fluid therapy, For Hypothermia (dangerously decreased body heat), use incubators, heating pad, etc.
Avatar f tn // hi and welcome, I am so sorry for the loss of one of the kittens, I sure hope you can successfully treat the others...I haven't been able to find any info on ponazuril, but I have included two websites that give some treatment info for you to read. I did learn that its important to clean the litter boxes throughly after each poop....and use a steamer to disinfect.
Avatar f tn I have read that prednisone is a good treatment for pancreatitis in cats but I'm not sure if Wiz has this or if it is too strong a med at this point. Thanks for any help.
Avatar m tn If a dog needs to be on Prednisone for 6 months, is there anything one can do to help prevent the bad side effects like erosion in the stomach and GI, Pancreatitis, muscle loss, etc ?
Avatar n tn Hello, Over the last several years, we have had wonderful results clearing up chronic diarrhea in cats like yours and cats with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) using a product called Tylan. This product is not labeled for cats but works like a charm and clears loose stool up in 24-48 hours. Tylan is an inexpensive, bitter tasting yellow powder labeled for poultry. It has no adverse side effects other than if you use too much it can cause temporary constipation.
877337 tn?1249848050 Then I was admitted in ER for pancreatitis then they said my levels of Hyperthyroid are went high which needed immediate treatment. Then i started om Methimazole .After few months my LIVER levels came little bit up and my antibodies were also high. As iam already have pancreatitis they said sludge in gallbladder which would affect liver and now Methimazole liver levels up NOTGOOD .As we were on TTC for babies they said i should take immediate option.
Avatar m tn For us, this was on top of $3k in vet bills already incurred in diagnosing her thyroid condition and pancreatitis that she developed in response to thyroid medication. (Most cats are fine on the medication, but our cat completely shut down and stopped eating. We're not sure which came first, the pancreatitis or bad reaction to the med, but she ended up very sick, unable to eat, and hospitalized for several days.
Avatar f tn Since we've had her she has had a lot of allergy problems that seem to be getting worse. We live in So. Calif. She will sometimes sneeze multiple times in a row sitting still. If she goes outside, before doing anything else she immediately starts sneezing. Now the last few months she has suddenly developed reverse sneezing. The reverse sneezing seems to be getting worse as well. She RS if she gets excited, runs around, plays, or even just doing nothing.
Avatar n tn My MD was at a total loss as to what caused my original pain which returned as soon as my pancreatitis pain resolved. I was lucky in that the pancreatitis that was due to the ERCP resolved quickly. Still and all I was out of work for 3 weeks. Tracie, I hope you are feeling better. When did you first realize that something was wrong? You went home after your ERCP, right? Did you end up admitted through the ER?
Avatar f tn Reglan (metoclopromadine) is a very cheap medication, unfortunately, it is also metabolized in the kidneys, so a too high dose results in toxic levels in the blood. My husband and I discovered that completely bypassing the GI tract by using reglan injections worked much better in the end. Chica didn't get the extra pyramidal side effects (extreme restlessness, shaking and trembling) from the reglan injections that she got from the oral meds.
Avatar f tn Have finally accepted that after being really mad at God. I was hospitalized in August for acute pancreatitis. Was told it was most likely due to my hepatitis. However, another MD said no. Well it would have save me $600 for hospital and about $1800 from L & I. (was struck by needle at work) Well...the frosting on the cake today was my latest HCV level came back positive. So..all that misery was for nothing.
Avatar f tn An acute pancreatitis in my experience does not normally cause ascites. FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
541150 tn?1306037443 Gastrointestinal disorders are among the most common problems encountered in cats. Most vomiting and diarrhea episodes occur suddenly and resolve quickly. The causes are usually such as eating an unfamiliar food. However, some cats may have vomiting and/or diarrhea over a period of weeks to months. Veterinarians will want to ensure that the cat is not suffering from an illness such as chronic kidney failure, pancreatitis, or hyperthyroidism which can also cause vomiting and diarrhea.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Not positive if I've joined (also having trouble bookmarking blog); but hope I'm in. First time I've been back in a few weeks since I had to put Teagan to rest. To be honest I hope to NEVER need to refresh myself on the terrible disease. But, you all gave me such comfort when Teagan left me. I hope to keep reading posts to keep up with you all.
931217 tn?1283484935 [16] The incidence of mammary tumors in female cats is roughly half that seen in dogs.[17] Mammary cancer is extremely rare in male dogs. [17] In dogs, the chances of developing a mammary tumor increase with age and vary with breed.[13,17] There is no apparent protective effect of having a litter for dogs or cats. [17,20] About half of canine mammary tumors are malignant, whereas 85-90% of feline mammary tumors are malignant.
Avatar f tn // that would help me greatly. Here is additional information since the original post: I visited the vet again today (without kitty) and we are trying her on an aggressive anti-nausea and anti-upset stomach regimen for a few days (pills and injections, if we can manage it) to see if this will get her to eat again.
Avatar f tn It helps some cats. Here in the jungle of Costa Rica we experiment. I have a wide mouth coffee cup. I offer by hand & play "Drinky Water". Cats love praise. My mommy baby is allowed hard food as a treat. I put 10-12 pieces in a plastic tube. She needs to reach her arm all the way in to get a piece. Then I tell her how smart she is. Ask her over & over how she learned it. One day she started to eat em too fast.
931217 tn?1283484935 As I am sure you have heard, there have been numerous alerts, recalls and reports of food-borne illness reported in the last couple of years, associated with uncooked or undercooked meats served to human consumers in restaurants or sold to them in stores. The under-appreciated truth of our meat production industry, indeed of any nation's meat production, is that absolute certainty of freedom from sickness-causing bacteria in meat cannot be assured.
Avatar f tn He started at a very young age, only 3 or 4 months, to have awful diarrhea with blood (very common in IBD cats, they start at a very young age). As far as IBD (Chronic Colitis) goes, your cat will eventually, hear me on this, she will eventually end up with cancer if you do not act on it soon. Medication does not kill the cause but the symptoms, only for a while, and you want to be able to get to the root of the problem and make it go away. You've seen how she gets better with homemade foods.
428506 tn?1296560999 This is a huge improvement over a couple of weeks ago when she was in terrible shape from the med reaction/pancreatitis. It pains me to think that I can't help her more! Any ideas? Has anyone seen a cat initially dislike but then finally start to eat y/d diet? If we can get her eating it for a few months, she might get strong enough for radioactive iodine. Thanks!
20820562 tn?1524881446 And very helpful during any renal crisis, or especially in late stage kdney failure for dogs and cats. If she is drinking normally, and amount good for her size and weight, then there may be no need for the additonal fluids any more. But if you are unsure about that, then continue her sub-q's. I'll repeat what I said above. A holistic/herbal vet (hope you can find one!) would be able to advise you much better than I can.
541150 tn?1306037443 Thing is, according to them, Pancreatitis and FLD are common in IBD cats. But as to what really causes a cat to suffer from these symptoms is still unknown to EVERYONE. I was reading, and they highly recommend a diet that's low in fat. Raw foods are recommended, but as you know not all vets are willing to accept the fact that raw foods can save a cat's life. I don't really know what happened here. We moved to our new home and that's when he stopped eating.
Avatar f tn Because I'm thinking, when we tried to pill Jade last, it didn't go well and she drooled insanely from the taste so I wonder, could your cats be eating something that seems appealing at the time, but in fact, tastes awful and starts the drooling? Look around your place for something you might not think of normally they could be chewing on. Or licking. Of course, this is only a guess. Good luck at the vet!
7052683 tn?1392942395 Now, if this had happened with one cat, I would recommend you go for it. But, knowing that this happened to both of the cats, I can't, in good conscience tell you to try it. I would go for the surgery or the radioactive iodine treatment. If you want any more details, shoot me a pm.
Avatar m tn I feel absolutely awful about the trauma our cat is going through. And about how he is now diabetic (which I understand is transient in cats). The hardest part is trying to figure out what I can feed him that will not cause an allergic reaction as chicken, turkey, duck, all fish and seafood, and now venison, are off the table. I have great faith that he will soon be better...but some days it's just hard.
Avatar m tn A Vet will answer your question. I've posted in one of the forums when I had a question on diabetes in cats. I can understand your apprehension with surgery. Let us know how kitty is doing and good luck.
Avatar n tn IBD Leads to Secondary Infections, Organ Degeneration, Nutritional Deficiencies and Even Cancer Secondary infections are very common in dogs and cats with inflammatory bowel disease. This is the result of not having a balanced, healthy digestive system. Over half your pet’s immune function is located in his GI tract, so if the intestines are inflamed and compromised, the immune system is compromised right along with it.
Avatar n tn My cat ended up being diagnosed with pancreatitis and was switched to a diet for sensitive tummies. Also cats can have IBS just like people. If you think your cat has IBS or pancreatitis NEVER give furball medicine as that can lead to another attack. Good luck with your babies with and without fur.
