Pancreatitis causes complications

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis causes complications

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn CT can confirm this, showing fat stranding around the pancreas, but the main role of CT is to evaluate complications of acute pancreatitis (e.g., necrosis, collections, etc.) and/or sequela of chronic pancreatitis (e.g., calcifications). If a patient experiences recurrent bouts of pancreatitis, MRI/MRCP may be of benefit to rule out underlying causes, such as gallstones and/or pancreas divisum (anatomic variant which can predispose to pancreatitis).
Avatar n tn In addition, I am a brittle diabetic and take 6 insulin shots per day. I also suffer from chronic pancreatitis and the dye in CT scans always sends me into acute pancreatitis. I have been told by my panc specialist not to allow them to use dye on me anymore because of that. And I have moderate aortic stenosis which will require open heart surgery at some point.
Avatar n tn basically, what is Pancreatitis? what causes this to happen? any effects?
Avatar n tn (That is, the pancreas is close to the gallbladder and can itself cause complications of pancreatitis, but there are many causes of pancreatitis). http://emedicine.medscape.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response! They have tried me on four different combinations of antibiotics and nothing seems to treat it. During my last cat scan they said that I had an abdominal wall infection too, but once again their treatment plan didn't work. It's like every doctor or ER I go into with complications are able to tell me what is wrong with me, but never seem to know how to treat it correctly. I'm just feeling so discouraged that anything will ever get better! P.S.
Avatar f tn Had CT scan 2 weeks ago which showed significant inflammation in terminal ileum and old pancreatitis with calcification. Gastroscopy last week showed oesphagitis.Biopsies taken. MRI scan Nov 2007 showed two strictures in small intestine. Gastro has advised following until I see him in clinic 23 July: Double my mtx injections to 25 mg weekly. Add budesonide 9 mg daily Start elemental diet of Fortijuice today. Eat low residue diet if I can manage it. Have another MRI scan asap.
Avatar n tn You go to the doctor and have the appropriate tests done to see what the health of your liver is. The virus by itself does not make the stomach swell, it's the complications from the virus such as cirrhosis, pancreatitis, enlarged spleen that can cause swelling in the abdomen. If you know your liver is still in good shape, I recommend you try some crunches or cut back on the twinkies. Also, some of us no matter how little we are still have belly fat - especially after having had children.
Avatar n tn what causes high lipase level, should i be worried? This discussion is related to Elevated lipase level.
Avatar f tn I recently had an ultrasound that said I had a borderline enlarged pancreatic duct (4.2 mm). I do not have pancreatitis. I am wondering about causes, if there are any besides cancer or pancreatitis. That is all I have found on this subject. Am scared.
Avatar f tn My niece is scheduled to have an ERCP to discover the reason for abdominal pain and pancreatitis, She has told the family that her doctor told her this test is very dangerous and there is a 20% fatality rate. After researching this test, I can't believe this test is as dangerous as she says her doctor says it is. The entire family is scared to death for her very life! Does anyone agree with me that this doctor seems to have exagerated the dangers in having this test?
Avatar f tn In pancreatitis both lipase and amylase are usually elevated. Other tests (CT, MRI) are needed to confirm pancreatitis. But elevated lipase doesn't mean you have pancreatitis. Or, lipase level doesn't necessary correlate with severity of inflammation. ERCP was probably suggested because a small stone, either from gallbladder or pancreas can block pancrteatic duct - what results in pancreatitis. There's another, noninvasive investigation - MRCP, which could be done instead of ERCP.
Avatar n tn When I had a stone caught in my common bile duct, the symptoms were nearly identical to my onsets of acute hepatitis. This can also cause temporary pancreatitis. Having my gallbladder removed solved the problem for me. Certain chemical exposures (carbon tetrachloride) can also cause similar symptoms.
Avatar f tn In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. So, if your symptoms persist discuss these options with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar f tn 1. Steroids, mumps, Epstein Barr Virus and Cytomegalovirus, Lupus and other immune diseases, very high calcium, lipids and triglycerides, drugs: sulfa drugs, steroids, NSAID use, diuretics, duodenal ulcer, diabetic drugs especially Byetta. The drugs could be a problem for both the pancrease and liver too. If you have been taking Byetta for diabetis it is very important to get treatment for that right away. I would say there is cause for concern but you are getting it checked out.
Avatar n tn Same thing happened with me.. I am a 35 year old man with acute pancreatitis. I'm a - rather, was a heavy nicorette chewer. After the first attack, after little relief, I started to chew the gum again. In a few days I got another attack - this time a very acute one - this attack made a necrosis at the head of the pancreas. There is an association - definitely!
Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pancreatitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20360227 It's my understanding that sometimes in severe scaring cases they will do surgery or use nerve blocks to help. But more information would be beneficial for more discussion.
Avatar n tn Can a person develop chronic pancreatitis after having acute pancreatitis that resulted from having an ERCP? I have developed abdominal pain that radiates to my side and back that is relieved when I lean forward and worsens when I lean back. No nausea or vomiting, no fever. Should I follow up with my doctor? I had the acute pancreatitis around 2004. Thanks for your response.
Avatar n tn Did the vet perform a CPLI test to see if your dog had pancreatitis? The causes of vomiting and diarrhea can be many things, such ingestion of a foreign body, ingestion of something toxic, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, parasites, organic causes and more.
1674610 tn?1317002220 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Pancreatitis is usually caused by gallstones or alcohol. Pancreatitis can't turn into pancreatic cancer but people who already have pancreatic cancer, can get pancreatitis which is why you and your mother had the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn You more than likely have chronic pancreatitis. Every attack causes damage to your pancreas. Even though you quit drinking the damage has been done. You need to read up on chronic pancreatitis and get more of an understanding.
4454327 tn?1405203128 Pancreatitis should always be ruled out in such cases. Pancreatitis is one of the causes of cholecystitis. You should consult your gastroenterologist and get pancreatitis evaluated and investigated in detail. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn When I had my first flare my lipase was doubled so we figured it was pancreatitis. Ive had flares on and off since. Sometimes this pain is on the right, sometime in the back. My flares are odd. During a flare I could have these pains hourly, or just three stabs the entire day. Now during a flare, my lipase is just slightly elevated-never more than 10pts at best.
Avatar m tn I have a sigmoid colectomy one year ago. Multiple complications-it was attached to appendix and somehow my pancreas was damaged in the surgery causing pancreatitis. Ended up in the hospital for 4.5 weeks. No diverticulitis since but I still have pain at the location of the incisions. It is not just sitting but if anything touches that area or I rest a box or bag there or even lean against a counter it is still hideous pain. For obvious reasons I do not want to return to my surgeon.
Avatar f tn You might have pancreatitis. That could cause all 3 symptoms, and the elevated enzymes. Other causes of your symptoms would not likely do that. Make sure your doctor checks you thoroughly for pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn The doctors ran test and i was told it was pancreatitis. I was checked for Gal stones, was clear. They said they found no cause, and it was put down to alcohol misuse. I am not a heavy drinker. Could the Solpadol have caused this? I read in the leaflet one of the severe side affects is pancreatitis.
