pancreatitis

Avatar f tn For Anorexia (not eating), use appetite stimulant medications. For Dehydration, use IV and/or Sub Q fluid therapy, For Hypothermia (dangerously decreased body heat), use incubators, heating pad, etc.
1560663 tn?1298050127 Also try and brush your cats, even if you think they have short hair and don't need it, it's not true, if you don't brush your cats they can develop hairballs that cannot be passed. In cats with megacolon or chronic constipation the last thing you need is something else to block your cat. Like you all know I have 7 cats and I manage to brush them all, even if its a little bit every few days.
Avatar f tn The most obvious causes for your dog's symptoms include:Giardia, Pancreatitis, HGE, IBD, Parvo, and stress colitis. Another possibility is a GI foreign body (The GI foreign body would require a barium study and possibly surgical removal of the object). There are snap tests for giardia, pancreatitis and parvovirus that can be performed in-house immediately. These diseases, except a GI foreign body require symptomatic therapy at the vet's office.
Avatar m tn Dysbiosis, Inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal lymphoma, and food allergies, as well as other causes and can occur separately or simultaneously. B-12 injections, and probiotics are helpful for dysbiosis but often other medications are necessary. It would be best if the cause for her problem was definitely diagnosed for the most appropriate treatment. What ever the cause it is important to keep her eating since cats who don't eat can develop fatty liver disease.
Avatar f tn FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
541150 tn?1306037443 The causes are usually such as eating an unfamiliar food. However, some cats may have vomiting and/or diarrhea over a period of weeks to months. Veterinarians will want to ensure that the cat is not suffering from an illness such as chronic kidney failure, pancreatitis, or hyperthyroidism which can also cause vomiting and diarrhea. When all non-gastrointestinal illnesses are eliminated, the various gastrointestinal disorders need to be considered and IBD is the most common.
685623 tn?1283485207 Cooked poulty bones splinter very easily and can cause obstructions or perforations in the gut. The fatty skin can cause a pet to develop pancreatitis, a very painful inflammation of the pancreas. As we have mentioned many times in the past, don't give grapes or raisins to your dogs, avoid feeding foods that have been excessively salted or that contain onion or garlic powder, and any sweets that contain Xylitol must be kept away from our dogs. Chocolate, of course, should be avoided.
Avatar f tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/Need-help-for-poor-appetite-cat/show/1789524 that would help me greatly. Here is additional information since the original post: I visited the vet again today (without kitty) and we are trying her on an aggressive anti-nausea and anti-upset stomach regimen for a few days (pills and injections, if we can manage it) to see if this will get her to eat again.

931217 tn?1283484935 [5-8] It is generally agreed, however that feral cats suffer more disease and parasitism and have shorter lives than owned cats and that reducing the number and reproduction of unowned cats is a worthwhile goal.[9] Neutering of owned, and likely also feral cats, promotes this goal.[57] Health Benefits of Neutering- Risks of Reproduction - Reproduction itself has potential risks which can be eliminated by neutering.
541150 tn?1306037443 Thing is, according to them, Pancreatitis and FLD are common in IBD cats. But as to what really causes a cat to suffer from these symptoms is still unknown to EVERYONE. I was reading, and they highly recommend a diet that's low in fat. Raw foods are recommended, but as you know not all vets are willing to accept the fact that raw foods can save a cat's life. I don't really know what happened here. We moved to our new home and that's when he stopped eating.
428506 tn?1296560999 She stopped eating, became severely HYPOthyroid, and developed pancreatitis to boot. She was hospitalized 3 times during this ordeal. She was ultimately released on no thryroid meds, with follow-up. The plan was to get her eating again first and then re-test thyroid levels. Well, we took her home and did syringe feeding. She would also eat small amounts of fancy feast on her own. We managed to help her put back on 0.25 lb this way, but her thyroid levels again went hyper.
Avatar n tn My cat ended up being diagnosed with pancreatitis and was switched to a diet for sensitive tummies. Also cats can have IBS just like people. If you think your cat has IBS or pancreatitis NEVER give furball medicine as that can lead to another attack. Good luck with your babies with and without fur.
12679876 tn?1426981493 Hi Darth, I think he should have an ultra sound or x-ray of his stomach and bowels also, if possible. There may be an obstruction or it could be pancreatitis. Blood tests are only part of the info for diagnosis. Good that he is getting his teeth taken care of that can be very painful to eat. My cat was throwing up for 3 days , was not dehydrated either, but the ultra sound and x-ray was needed to complete the picture. Just sayin---that is what I would do.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat's skin cancer. I don't know too much about skin cancer in cats, but why don't you post in the Related Expert Forums where it says Cancer in Pets. A Vet will answer your question. I've posted in one of the forums when I had a question on diabetes in cats. I can understand your apprehension with surgery. Let us know how kitty is doing and good luck.
Avatar n tn 1) hospitalized him for 4 days 2) X-rays under full anesthesia (so IV's, cardiogram, etc.) 3) Full blood-work and cultures analysis 4) Thyroid tests 5) Endoscopy 6) Colonoscopy (not under full anesthesia, under something that made him woozy) 7) 5(!) biopsies of stomach matter After all this they said they ruled out a lot of things and it's probably Inflammatory Bowel Disease and gave me special food and medication. This cost a total of $3800 (!
Avatar n tn A Common Cause of IBD – GI Parasites There are a few common causes of inflammatory bowel disease in dogs and cats. One that is often overlooked is the presence of parasites. My estimate is the vast majority of puppy mill pets and abandoned/rescued animals left at shelters are positive for parasites – roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, coccidia, and Giardia. Parasites cause GI inflammation.
931217 tn?1283484935 Most coyotes and wolves, for example, are gone by 7 or 8 years old. Pet dogs and cats, however, are now living into their teens quite commonly. Diet is not the only reason for this, but it does not follow that eating raw meat is a positive factor. Most pet animals are not eating raw diets now and live long anyway. Their safer, indoor lives while eating consistent professionally designed commercial diets are one likely reason. That, and better health care than in decades past is another.
Avatar f tn Triggers A dog with a physical problem that causes excessive hunger, pain, or other sensations. A dog who is not getting enough to eat or is going too long between meals. A dog with intestinal parasites or other condition that creates blood or other fecal changes . Some dogs develop a mental connection that they will be punished if their humans find them in the same room with feces. Boredom. Separation anxiety.
Avatar n tn I realized that after I had done the same with my 2 cats and finally found a loving, stable home for them to rest out their days. I now do cat rescue work and only adopt out to people that are not moving around excessively as it really stresses out the animal and causes severe health issues. The trips to the vet alone are way too stressful. Cats are calm, peaceful animals by nature and when you disturb that balance, it is going to show up somewhere.
Avatar n tn sorry I really can't shed any light to what causes this either.....I will give you a link to our medhelp Vet Dr. Redford perhaps he would know? I have read you can use activated charcoal for this...1 capsule opened and put in her food, you can use for 2-3 days but not long term b/c it will interfere with nutrient absorption. its not an answer to whats causing this but at least it will bring poor kitty some relief.....
541150 tn?1306037443 Has anyone warned Savas what these cats are up to??? We must warn him before our cats contact his cats. You KNOW how many cats SAVAS has? If they were able to get all those cats on their side then we're all in big trouble!!!
1358341 tn?1282213443 And I had a dog that was killed with poison by a thief, and one of my cats that died because/related to of the fluids (that can also save cats), I felt the infection getting on him and making him cold. I don't think I am a bad buyer if I just buy for my beloved cat, and I think I deserve attention and understanding if I am worried of the future. Perhaps I am exagerated, perhaps I am not but only I can't proof I could dominate situation like a man does, but I can't change how I am.
Avatar f tn I noticed that all 3 of my cats were sneezing more frequently after the new box of litter. The other 2 cats got over it and I returned the product. Cloud was not so lucky. He probably did have an infection because he started to eat less and even passed on his favorite shrimp... After Convenia sneezing stopped in 48 hours, there was no running nose. My joy did not last. On the third day Cloud became lethargic, hardly ate. On the fourth day he did not eat or drink but secluded himself.
Avatar f tn Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, pancreatitis, food allergies, and possible vasculitis. My doctors assume all of these problems are autoimmune. However, I have tested negative for antibodies to EVERYTHING (thyroid, adrenals, celiac, myasthenia...etc etc etc). I do have an enlarged Thymus. Any ideas how this could happen (autoimmunity without any antibodies)? Of course I worry there's something else going on here, but my doctors seem so convinced...
Avatar n tn went a little while between bowel movements due to not eating but started having them again normally once he was eating. My vet's having them run more blood work for possible pancreatitis, with the lipase. Does anything come to mind that could account for the unsteadiness?
Avatar f tn The last blood tests came back from the lab this afternoon and showed she did not have pancreatitis. She is slightly better today as far as getting up and walking a few yards. Her tummy is still as big or bigger. She is eating tinned rice and chicken purchased from my vet, on his advice. She had a painkilling injection from the vet at around 1 pm yesterday which sent her into s sort of weird trance-like state.
874521 tn?1424120397 htm I wish that I could tell you about pancreatitis and fatty liver disease, but I've never had cats that have been diagnosed with those conditions. It's shocking since I've had about 20+ cats growing up, including 3 of my own. I hope that more people will come on here and help ya that have personally been through this. But, I did learn a lot about the liver disease, and I feel better about Abby's chances from what I've read. I really DO. And, I would not blow smoke up your booty either.
251222 tn?1270939717 I was in a Dka (went into a diabetic coma), my blood sugar was close to 1000. I had pancreatitis and gall bladder disease. I delivered the baby premature and slipped into the dka and woke at a later time in the Icu. My baby survived with 73 days in Nicu and is doing well now. After I was moved down out of icu to risk maternity, I began having severe vision problems. They had stabilized my blood sugar.
