FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
The most obvious causes for your dog's symptoms include:Giardia, Pancreatitis, HGE, IBD, Parvo, and stress colitis. Another possibility is a GI foreign body (The GI foreign body would require a barium study and possibly surgical removal of the object). There are snap tests for giardia, pancreatitis and parvovirus that can be performed in-house immediately.
These diseases, except a GI foreign body require symptomatic therapy at the vet's office.

My Wiz had a dental/extraction and ultrasound today. The us showed significant kidney changes… as well as an enlarged or hardened pancreatic node I think. We are putting him on a bp med and maybe some chinese herbs eventually. One of his kidney values was very mildly elevated so I wanted to do the ultrasound and he has had vomiting on and off… it seemed to be hairball related, I treated that and it seems to help and sometimes food related.

Switch your cat to a hypo-alergenic, human grade food like By Nature's Organic (no wheat, no soy, no corn, no grains of any kind, avoid high sugar content if possible). Make sure you feed wet food (6 oz per day per 10 pounds of body weight is about right) as well as dry food and lots of water. Give him yucca supplement, which is a natural anti-inflammatory.
I recently had an ultrasound that said I had a borderline enlarged pancreatic duct (4.2 mm). I do not have pancreatitis. I am wondering about causes, if there are any besides cancer or pancreatitis. That is all I have found on this subject. Am scared.
In pancreatitis both lipase and amylase are usually elevated. Other tests (CT, MRI) are needed to confirm pancreatitis.
But elevated lipase doesn't mean you have pancreatitis. Or, lipase level doesn't necessary correlate with severity of inflammation.
ERCP was probably suggested because a small stone, either from gallbladder or pancreas can block pancrteatic duct - what results in pancreatitis. There's another, noninvasive investigation - MRCP, which could be done instead of ERCP.
When I had a stone caught in my common bile duct, the symptoms were nearly identical to my onsets of acute hepatitis. This can also cause temporary pancreatitis. Having my gallbladder removed solved the problem for me.
Certain chemical exposures (carbon tetrachloride) can also cause similar symptoms.
In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. I have ruled out worms for that reason, he has none, and ive never known of anything else to cause this. His diet is the same as my other 3 cats, and they do fine.
1. Steroids, mumps, Epstein Barr Virus and Cytomegalovirus, Lupus and other immune diseases, very high calcium, lipids and triglycerides, drugs: sulfa drugs, steroids, NSAID use, diuretics, duodenal ulcer, diabetic drugs especially Byetta.
The drugs could be a problem for both the pancrease and liver too. If you have been taking Byetta for diabetis it is very important to get treatment for that right away.
I would say there is cause for concern but you are getting it checked out.
Same thing happened with me.. I am a 35 year old man with acute pancreatitis. I'm a - rather, was a heavy nicorette chewer. After the first attack, after little relief, I started to chew the gum again. In a few days I got another attack - this time a very acute one - this attack made a necrosis at the head of the pancreas. There is an association - definitely!

There are so many things that could be wrong with the poor kitty that it will most likely only be solved when you go to the vet. Are his gums or inside of his ears yellow? That could be liver issues....I've seen that before when cats stop eating...Also, super important that he isn't dehydrated so I would at least switch kitty to wet food where there is more moisture...dry food isn't good for cats but especially older cats w health problems. Can a person develop chronic pancreatitis after having acute pancreatitis that resulted from having an ERCP? I have developed abdominal pain that radiates to my side and back that is relieved when I lean forward and worsens when I lean back. No nausea or vomiting, no fever. Should I follow up with my doctor? I had the acute pancreatitis around 2004. Thanks for your response.
Did the vet perform a CPLI test to see if your dog had pancreatitis? The causes of vomiting and diarrhea can be many things, such ingestion of a foreign body, ingestion of something toxic, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, parasites, organic causes and more.
You more than likely have chronic pancreatitis. Every attack causes damage to your pancreas. Even though you quit drinking the damage has been done. You need to read up on chronic pancreatitis and get more of an understanding.
Please take your cat to the vet ASAP. A distended abdomen could signify many things, such as a urinary blockage, pancreatitis, Gastrointestinal foreign body or more. These can be medical emergencies, and are also quite painful.
Cats who are anorexic and who don't eat for ANY reason can develop hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) which can be life threatening on it's own.
I think she sounds like it is pancreatitis or Irritable Bowel. Fairly common in cats. My cat is also on Hills Z/D food only.
I know some do not favor this food but it works for my cat along with the Busesonide....so I am a believer.
Sometimes feeding your cat some boiled rice for a few meals will help with the loose stools--you can cook it in chicken broth.

He is a very sensitive, nervous cat. His labs indicate that he does not have pancreatitis, and overall his lab work looks good. He had a full senior work up, as well as urinanalysis and the test for the pancreatitis (negative). He has been dehydrated, not eating well, nauseated and vomiting. Is the next step to do an ultrasound?
You might have pancreatitis. That could cause all 3 symptoms, and the elevated enzymes. Other causes of your symptoms would not likely do that.
Make sure your doctor checks you thoroughly for pancreatitis.
The doctors ran test and i was told it was pancreatitis. I was checked for Gal stones, was clear. They said they found no cause, and it was put down to alcohol misuse. I am not a heavy drinker. Could the Solpadol have caused this? I read in the leaflet one of the severe side affects is pancreatitis.
I am not a fan of any dry food for cats especially. cats never drink enough water to ever compensate for this dehydrated food therefore leading to health problems especially for their bladder and kidneys...I can send you a link to read more on that written by a feline nutritionist. she claims even the cheapest canned food is better than the most expensive dry!!!

if you are adamant on feed dry kibble than all I can say is PLEASE feed NO grain.
