Osteoarthritis jaw symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis jaw symptoms

osteoarthritis

Avatar m tn Hey, My hubby has been diagnosed (with MRI) with severe osteoarthritis is his jaw. My question is.....could excess/regular use of alcohol worsen the symptoms? I am hoping that perhaps a lifestyle change can alleviate some of his issues with OA. He was on Celebrex for a short period but doctor took him off (as its not great long term) to see how he feels. Any other tips, thoughts or helpful ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.
1459410 tn?1285698605 I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis. I recently got an MRI after years of suffering and learned about disc displacement, one of them displaced all the time and it's torn. Pool exercise might help you some if they are joints that go underwater. And if you have knee arthritis, I saw on tv where I scientific study was done proving acupuncture can be a help.
1836925 tn?1318365873 I have severe osteoarthritis in the jaw. I have already had orthroscoptic surgery last year which helped a bit but now the oral surgeon is going to inject me with synvisc in 2 weeks to help the pain. I'm not allergic to chicken or feathers to my knowledge , but I'm very leary about using it.Has anyone ever used this med. for the jaw. I have worn a hole in the disc and he has said that down the road I may need a more major surgery.
Avatar n tn Is one of the symptoms of an anxiety disorder a nervous chest? I constantly get butterflies in my stomach and chest, I have had heart tests and everything is fine. I am on Paxil 20 mg that cleared up the insomnia, crying spells, trouble swallowing na d dizziness (for the most part). It is my busy season at work and I am getting the chest nervousness and discomfort as well as neck aches. Is this common with anxiety? Even though I am on 20 mg Paxil? Thanks.
Avatar m tn •Pain or tenderness of your jaw •Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints •Aching pain in and around your ear •Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing •Aching facial pain •Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth TMJ disorders can also cause a clicking sound or grating sensation when you open your mouth or chew. But if there's no pain or limitation of movement associated with your jaw clicking, you probably don't need treatment for a TMJ disorder.

Avatar n tn For about 2 years now, I have noticed that after a glass of wine I experience a sharp pain around my jaw. I've had this sensation before whenever I eat a citris or sour fruit, however, lately after consuming any alcohol such as beer, wine, and margaritas, etc., I get this sharp, excruciating pain after just one glass. It hurts so badly, especially if I drink water. The moment the H2O hits the jaw part of my inner mouth, a burning sensation immediately follows.

Avatar f tn Hello All, So, I finally have an MRI scheduled for June 10th 2011, which was only ordered because I had 3 separate incidences of unilateral pupil dilation ranging from 10 minutes to an hour each time - no pain, no weakness, no paralysis - in fact no other symptoms other than my everyday symptoms & these were not worsened during the events (see list below).
527589 tn?1301681778 Since you have bone spurs, osteoarthritis and cervical stenosis, the symptoms are being aggravated. Please get an MRI of the brain. In fact you may need a series of MRI to diagnose to rule out MS. I think you have not consulted a neurologist so far and that is why you have been made to run around. Please take the MRI reports of brain, pelvic region and spine and consult a good neurologist.

475586 tn?1225027354 My knees do have osteoarthritis in them--I had an MRI. I also have 2 herniated discs in my neck and kyphosis. My sister has RA, so I thought I had it also, but the doctors say no. I have a rheumatologist who is very nice, although most of the treatments I've been getting for fibro are not doing much. He seems sure that other than my knees and my neck, what I have is fibromyalgia. I have pain all the time, aching and soreness and also the sharp, stabbing pains.

Avatar n tn I am 54. Two years ago I developed severe migraines which developed into pain behind my jaw, in my temples, near my ears, my throat, back of my neck and upper shoulders. A series of doctors have ruled out allergies, oxygen flow deficiencies, mental disorders, autoimmunities, brain abnormalities, arterial blockages in the area, TMJ, dental problems, opthomalogical problems, and Thoracic outlet syndrome affecting my veins/arteries.
Avatar m tn * 0 = no symptoms 1 = few symptoms 2 = a moderate number of symptoms 3 = a great deal of symptoms The SS scale score is the sum of the severity of the 3 symptoms (fatigue, waking unrefreshed, cognitive symptoms) plus the extent (severity) of somatic symptoms in general. The final score is between 0 and 12. ---Source: American College of Rheumatology--- I hope this helps, but please note that my comments do not constitute medical advice. Best wishes.
748543 tn?1463449675 The position of the teeth affect the function of the jaw, which in turn effects the head position. Rene Cailliet, Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California, has put it best: “It is an axiom that the body follows the head. You can realign your whole body by repositioning your head. Head held in a forward position can pull your entire body out of line. It can reduce the vital lung capacity by as much as 30 percent.
Avatar m tn Joint pains have been diagnosed as osteoarthritis, muscle aches as fibromyalgia. Had MRI of head results okay. Had x-rays of spine and shoulders, found pinched nerve, got shot, did nothing. Now have trouble holding onto cane, had to tie it to wrist. Have symptoms of CAD, extreme weakness, extreme fatigue, chest pains, jaw pain, arm pain, dizziness, shortness of breath after very little exertion. I can sit down and get up 2 -3 times then next try my legs just twitch slightly, don't move.
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
748543 tn?1463449675 One of the most difficult concepts to get across to my TMD patients and other doctors is the connectivity of the Jaw and the Neck. In fact, it is my strong belief that TMD/TMJ should really be classified as a Craniocervical Disease and hence fall under the umbrella of medical coverage rather than treated strictly as a dental problem. To the Neuromuscular-minded dentist, "Occlusion" is an extension of general Postural Consideration.
