1836925 tn?1318362273 I have severe osteoarthritis in the jaw. I have already had orthroscoptic surgery last year which helped a bit but now the oral surgeon is going to inject me with synvisc in 2 weeks to help the pain. I'm not allergic to chicken or feathers to my knowledge , but I'm very leary about using it.Has anyone ever used this med. for the jaw. I have worn a hole in the disc and he has said that down the road I may need a more major surgery.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.
1459410 tn?1285695005 I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis. I recently got an MRI after years of suffering and learned about disc displacement, one of them displaced all the time and it's torn. Pool exercise might help you some if they are joints that go underwater. And if you have knee arthritis, I saw on tv where I scientific study was done proving acupuncture can be a help.

Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.

Avatar f tn You're welcome! Well, that definitely is a reason not to bother your doctor with asking about ibuprofen! That's too bad, because when I was first told I had osteoarthritis in my jaw joints (could hardly open my mouth at the time), I was told ibuprofen was the drug of choice for TMJ.
964288 tn?1247249184 It hurts me when I talk a lot, sing a lot, chew a lot, etc.. I have also had face pain. I was told my lower jaw was congenitally to small for my upper jaw, but it was too late to get an extender put in due to osteoarthritis having set in. This kind of pain can cause often depression. So, I feel some sympathy for your problem, djnmo.
1276426 tn?1271017738 It sound like you have TMJ dysfunction. It is possible you have arthritis in your jaw. I have osteoarthritis in my own jaws. I was told to use my fingers to keep myself from yawning too wide and that I would need to be on a soft diet the rest of my life. I was told I need to limit my talking on the phone and singing. I've been wearing flat planed splint nightly, prescribed by maxillofacial specialists to try to prevent my arthritis from worsening and it seems to be helping.
Avatar m tn If you do the proper exercises, wear mouth guard, use muscle relaxants when it becomes too painful and treat your jaw like gold than its possible to at least get to a place where you can live with it. I had surgery 17yrs ago I am not 35 and the pain came back 4yrs ago. I always wear my mouthguard and have since I was 15. I have osteoarthritis in my one joint and the other side the disk is folded in half.
Avatar m tn •Pain or tenderness of your jaw •Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints •Aching pain in and around your ear •Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing •Aching facial pain •Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth TMJ disorders can also cause a clicking sound or grating sensation when you open your mouth or chew.
Avatar m tn t think that is what you are looking for. What symptoms are you experiencing now? What treatment has the doctor prescribed? What area of your body is effected?
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of issues with my neck and back. My symptoms started when I was 22, 7 years ago. It started when I woke up one day and had this pressure on one side of my neck, right under the base of my skull and behind my ear. I had this constant feeling of needing to stretch or crack my neck all day. Well this feeling never went away. Eventually I got the pressure on the other side of my neck as well.
Avatar m tn I am a 35 yr old male with secondary progressive MS. My jaw has been popping occasionally while eating and always when chewing gum. I did a search on jaw popping and found that MS is sometimes misdiagnosed as TMJ. Is this possibly another symptom? And should I seek assistance from my neuro or dentist? Is important to have it looked at immediately? (I ask that because I have a neuro appt in a month.) Thanks for any help or advice.
Avatar f tn BUT, clicking in your jaw and pain might be tension and clenching teeth at night while you sleep. Those are common symptoms of that. The back pain is not unusual, we all get that sometimes.. TMJ is not really arthritis and again, is due to clenching often. medicinenet. Try something like ibuprofen to see if it helps, try an ice pack for pain too and avoid chewing gum. If you were to have arthritis due to your weight, I'd expect it to be more in your knees.
2167803 tn?1338529751 The only way to diagnose osteoarthritis or autoimmune arthritis is with x-rays and blood bests. Your thirties is not to young to develop osteoarthritis (the wear and tear type) if you are athletic, or conversely, if you DON'T exercise, if you're overweight, or if you have a congenital deformity in your knees that is only now making itself known with pain. I'd say go in for an x-ray, at the very least.
Avatar f tn I have RA through my whole body to the point i even get sore throats and lock jaw. Since i started taking Enbrel i have been alot better. Avatar m tn I have pain also in my left lower jaw, just under the jaw line. I was examined by the cardiologist at the hospital and told that I was fine, had zero issues with my heart or circulatory system and had about 60 more years left, which is encouraging, but doesn't explain the pain. I am also having some MS symptoms (have been for 3 months or so) as well, and have a neurologist appointment next week. Hopefully he can shed some light on all of this. Thanks for your help!

Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
