Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis in hands

osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn I don't smoke, drink, nor run around-ha-ha What if you eat the best cleanest fruit and veg and food in moderation-??A; I eat the best food available in moderation. Conclusion:The "Wei Wu Wei" approach is the only one to give results. Just live each day as best as one can.Love all animals incl. yourself, and treat all with kindness, compassion, and mindfulness. So you can't walk??
Avatar n tn I do on occasion experience numbness and tingling in both hands and fingers, but will stop when massaged. So, I am looking for other symptoms in my body resulting from the spurs touching nerves in both areas. Thank you. John.
Avatar n tn I frequently get numbness in my legs and hands, severe pain to the point where walking in unbearable. I can not work around the house for more than 15min a day and employment is at the moment out of the question because my back will spasm severly at any time. I was told that applying for a total and permanent disability to ensure I would not have to try and work. My Dr. said that it would be hard to do this as osteoarthritis is often not seen as a disability.
Avatar n tn Please read my prior two emails first. My question on my hands is that I actually feel like I have arthritis in my fingers. Could this also be true and if so how to I find out. Or does the the fact my ventral cord is compressed give me the same feeling.
Avatar n tn The Carpal Tunnel is a passageway on the palm side of our wrists that protects the main nerve and tendons in our hands. The tunnel is narrow so any swelling that occurs in it puts pressure on the nerve causing numbness, pain, tingling and even nerve damage. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is most frequently caused by repetitive motion in the hand or wrist such as typing on a computer or playing tennis or handball. What Can I Do to Reduce or Stop the Tingling Sensation?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have Osteoarthritis in finger joints. What do you do for pain and stiffness. Also what jobs do you do, I had to quit my job of 10 years, (doctor said so) looking for a job, but not sure what to do, any ideas. Going to start physical therapy soon.
Avatar m tn The following symptoms WERE with me (Feb-Apr). 1. Bending forward my neck and very worst tingling in my hands (A electrical sensation was moving from my fingers of my hands towards my arms), it was lasted for one month 2. Blurred and uncomfortable vision (sometimes) 3. Weakness of my legs 4. Cramp of the muscle of my lower leg (left) 5. Jump of muscle (arms) BTW, I had fever (38.8 oC) because of tonsillitis, so my hands started to tingle for a short time!
Avatar f tn He's got really bad joint's especially in his hands/wrists and feet and has problems with his right hip/leg. He's on several medication's and has a fortnightly injection which he does himself which is working. But he recently had a second x ray and his right hip is badly damaged so he will possibly need a hip replacement in the near future (he had the first x ray 5 years ago). He basically has Osteoarthritis. But since last Wednesday he's been in alot of pain.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.
1459410 tn?1285698605 I have taken ibuprofen for weeks at a time in the past for the osteoarthritis in my jaws. I try to take it sparingly for it now. But I get frequent heartburn and was recently put on cytotec generic, which is supposed to help with stomach lining. I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis.

1378884 tn?1315509445 I have broken both knee caps in the past, (car accident and Karate Class) had a meniscus tear repaired, which made left knee much worse. Hands and feet are fine. Usually wake up fine ( as fine as a 55 year old can be) and by the end of day or frequent use (walking/weight lifting) I am in extreme pain and no flexibility. My Doc had me try some Celebrex which took the edge off the pain and allowed me to be more active but I was far from pain free. Going in for an MRI.
7486852 tn?1410355784 I have osteoarthritis in my knees but I need a to have my hips, wrists/hands and back looked at as well the pain is disabling.. The pain in my feet, shoulders, and ribs are more of an uncomfortable feeling than actual pain, although it does get worse with movement, and the other places that hurt, hurt constantly even if I am just sitting, standing, or lying down, although lying down is when its the least painful.
408795 tn?1324939275 Can osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck cause my hands to swell, actually only one hand swells? Excuse me if it's a dunderhead question but I just can't figure out where this swelling is coming from.
Avatar m tn I have not had any other serious medical problems. Over the last couple months I've developed pain in my feet and hands. It started in my feet with the balls of my feet aching and feeling "weak". Not sure if weak is the right term, but they just didn't feel normal. Pain is not severe, but has not gone away. Lately there has been some pain in toes and occasionally down the sole of my foot. I have also begun having pain in my hands.
432312 tn?1265648574 (That is the symptom that makes the doctors send me back to the neurologist.) I rarely have pain in my hands. I broke my foot because of the osteoporosis and that foot aches alot of the time. My neck sometimes hurts but always ( all the time) makes crunchy noises when I turn it. If my neck aches the next day it will ususally be my shoulders back and neck hurt. I have a family history for rheumatoid arthritis...
Avatar m tn Hello, can osteoarthritis in the hands cause numbness in the fingers, or shocks like feeling at the tips of all the fingers. I have numbness like a sand paper feeling at the tips of all fingers and weakness in my fingers and strength when i play my guitar.
Avatar f tn hi i recenlty been diagnosed as havin rheumatoid arthiritis in hand and osteo arthiritis in both knees i am constantly tired and in pain do you think there is a link between theses illnessess and hep c
Avatar f tn Then eventually in June I was offered xrays and a CT scan which showed up slight osteoarthritis in both hips. Would the osteo have caused the bursitis? Also have a burning sensation down the front of my thighs. Then two months ago I started having pins and needles in my right hand quite a bit during the day. I was sent to physio but this wasn't any help at all and at present am waiting the letter from the physio direct to my doctor discharging me and suggesting what to do next.
Avatar m tn For some background I am a 3rd year pharmacy student and know what the surgeon is saying as I have learned about all of this stuff in school. So, I suspect that I don't have RA and maybe it is just osteoarthritis albeit at a very young age. However, RA is a tricky disease and it could be a possibility. I just want to hear y'alls' (that certainly gives away what region I am from ha) opinions on my situation just to get some feedback.
Avatar n tn A Baker's Cyst also popped up last month at an also bad knee (torn ligaments never corrected). As of a few weeks ago, my Rheumatologist told me I have osteoarthritis in my hands. Last week I had a bone scan and was told I also have osteoporosis. I take 10 different meds a day( asthma, thyroid, high blood pressure, hot flashes, ibs, gird, and lupus) and am so tired of it all. Is it possible to have all 3 (Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis) and if so, is it common?
Avatar n tn I am not sure but I guess your hands must be held in upward position for a long time. This reduces blood supply to the hands, leading to the symptoms. But, you also need to get a routine blood work done to see Hemoglobin and calcium levels. Low Hemoglobin level can cause symptoms of numbness and tingling when the hands are held in a position for a long time. Please let me know of any other problems related to this. Do you feel tired easily ? How is your breathing when you get the cramps ?
Avatar f tn He is a handyman and i dont know if its just because he has used his hands so much in his life or if he has a bad case of arthritis. I am really worried about him does anyone know whats going on?

423925 tn?1203464160 Hi I am 16 years old. I have these reocurring pains in my hands, feet, and knees. They don't hurt all the time, and not all at once. Just every now and then one hand or one knee, etc. will start hurting and usually won't stop until I take a pain reliever for it. There's no swelling or anything. It is apparently genetic because my mother and her father both have it. I don't know if it's some sort of arthritis or what, but no doctor has ever been able to tell us what it is.
Avatar n tn My problem is frequent slight numbness in my hands when I awake in the middle of the night. I have used Rogaine on my hair since it was approved but have recently stopped because after a few days of using it as directed, the numbness in my hands can extend to the whole arm. Hanging my arm off the side of the bed causes feeling to return in about a minute. A couple of beers at night also seems to make the problem worse.

765802 tn?1263304451 I went to this Rheumatologist because of the pain in my hands and trying to walk or get up/ I also had a bone scan done in 2004 was told that I had degenative bone in my back all over there. I know I had a problem years earlier with L5S1 with bulging disk.......just didn't want the surgery back then it was 1991 or 92. Anyway I live with most of the back pain today/ It just hard now to get up and walk/ I also fall time to time without warning my ankles just give out.
