Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 dosage for dogs

omega-3

518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
9214378 tn?1408881584 s a great question, but the answer is going to be a bit complicated, so bare with me. Eggs are normally good for dogs in small quantities. But, they contain good omega-3 fatty acid AND the bad-for-dogs-in-kidney-failure omega-6 fatty acid. The best answer with eggs I have found is to be cautious, because what happened to eggs through mass production and processing over the last 100 years has changed their value completely.

Avatar f tn I would like to know if supplementing with Omega 3 and B vitamins can help the situation. She currently takes a low dosage of Omega 3 for her skin and also takes Cetyl M daily for joint issues. Appreciate any input to help her maintain a better quality of life through this. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I do both....I have a number of dog food cook books....I have 4 furkids so I usually make recipes like Turkey loafs or turkey patties that go along way...There favorite snack is homemade blueberry muffins. (Also from a cookbook). I make a batch and freeze them..Pull out a few at a time. I eat them, too. They are yummy! :) Made with honey and such with no salt or any of that...I add Icelandic Salmon oil to their food, as it is an omega 3...

1645208 tn?1301072177 Fish oils and all oily fish are extremely good for dogs. Omega 3 oils, all-round healthy for dogs and people. Tuna, sardines, salmon, mackerel.....(mind the bones. They can be dangerous of course) The bones in canned fish are ok, they are softer and not only edible but an excellent source of calcium too.
Avatar f tn I took my husky to the vet today for the same issue. they suggested that i try different food, and make her treats with omega 3 or buy her some omega 3 for dogs and give it to her.
441382 tn?1452810569 So I hunted round to find a capsule which ONLY contained Glucosamine/Chondroitin, and no other additives. Then I calculated the dosage for her of both. She weighs 28 lbs approx. Her dosage is (max.) 500mg. Glucosamine, and 200 Chondroitin.
Avatar f tn If he is vomiting daily then i am glad you had him checked out. This is where being a vet is like being a riddle solver...lets go back to the original issue, the pruritis (itchiness). If this responded to prednisone is increases the likelihood of atopic dermatitis (environmental allergies) and greatly reduces the likelihood of food allergies. Food allergies rarely respond to prednisone.
Avatar n tn Although, the Glucosamine dosage may be increased, in my experience, many dogs like yours enjoy superior results using natural arthritis remedies properly formulated and dosed in combination. The most useful arthritis nutrient products contain various combination's of Glucosamine, MSM, Omega-3 Fatty Acids (sourced as EPA, DHA), Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid.
Avatar n tn s version) but the dosage for ResQ1250 is 4-6 capsules per day for a capsule that has a much higher concentration of EPA and DHA?
391038 tn?1298737386 Today you are seeing may of the top brands add many of these supplements into the commercial brands. Such as Chondrotin, Omega-3 FA's etc. Learn to read the labels and see how your dogs do on a particular brand. It will not hurt them to try various ones to see which is most tasty and does not cause gas and a normal stool. This from the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/ResourcesforYou/ucm047113.
Avatar n tn There is nothing wrong with an Omega-3 supplement for most dogs. But there are also some who are highly sensitive to anything fatty and can develop pancreatitis. My own advice? See how they go with the water. If you can't get water to stay down, or if symptoms persist, go to the vet a.s.a.p.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
