Avatar f tn My shitzu dog is 7 years old and has kidney stones and allergies. He also has high cholesterol(Cushings' disease suspected). He weighs about 10 lbs. Is it safe for me to give him omega 3 capsules and what should be the dosage? Thank you, Mrs.
Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
Avatar f tn My father has two small blood clots in his leg below the knee. He can not take Coumadin well and had reactions after several weeks twenty years ago, and now we have been trying alternative therapies with an alternative doctor who is also an MD. We have choses Nattokinase to reduce fribrin which can help dissolve the clots according to European and Asian research, and high Omega 3's which help thin the blood.
Avatar f tn Omega-3 is like anything else. There is a reccomended dosage. Best to stick to the standard guidelines which your doctor or pharmacist would know. I believe taking above a certain dosage can induce mania and anyway any nutrient has a specific reccomended dosage and its best not to go above that. Fish oil or flaxseed oil is fine. Cod liver oil should not be taken as a mood stabilizer because higher doses are potentially toxic.
Avatar f tn I for one experience an increase in my PVC and PAC episodes after I take omega 3. Ever since I only obtain omega 3 from the fish i eat on a bi-weekly basis - i don't take the capsules anymore.
Avatar m tn An Italian study found there was a 45% decrease in sudden cardiac death in patients who suffered a heart attack when taking 3 omega pills a day plus a baby aspirin. What they found was that aspirin enhances the effects of omega, in that instead of 6 pills a day to get the required amount, you only need to take 3. In Europe there are new studies starting which will evaluate the effects of aspirin because this drug doesn't seem to be having the desired effect.
Avatar f tn He asked me what is different now than before - meds, supplements, diet - only thing different is she was taking flax seed oil caps as well as Omega 3 caps; now just Omega 3. Should I start her back on the Flax Seed Oil? Doc didn't know....
Avatar f tn And yes, you can also take Omega 3 oils. Evening primrose primarily contains omega 6 oils. As for dosing herbs, which would include St. John's Wort, they should be taken two to three times a day depending on the dosage to keep them in your system. That's not necessary with the fats, since they store in the fatty tissues.
Avatar f tn In serious cases, an overdose could increase the risk of bleeding, including dangerous internal bleeding, such as gastrointestinal bleeding or bleeding in the brain. Symptoms of such bleeding may include: Easy bruising or bleeding Black, tarry stools; bright red blood in the stool; or vomiting of blood (signs of gastrointestinal bleeding) Signs of a hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain), such as vision or speech changes, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg, or a severe headache.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, it seems my INR (which doesn't measure the effects of Omega 3) being low was due to diet or some other trigger. I hadn't been eating much salad stuff lately and expected the INR would be okay or too high. My INR was 1.8 so near the target range, must still provide some clot protection. As stated, I take only about 1/3 the dose of Omega 3 as a just-in-case. The possibility of more bleeding isn't encouraging.
Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
