Nuvaring and condoms

Common Questions and Answers about Nuvaring and condoms

Avatar n tn NuvaRing may also be started on Days 2-5 of the woman's cycle, but in this case a barrier method, such as male condoms with spermicide, should be used for the first seven days of NuvaRing use in the first cycle. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn I've been on Nuvaring for 5-6 months now and I've skipped my period for 2 months now but I keep on spotting so I want to have a ring free week where i'll have my period, now that I want to have my period, will I still be protected from pregnancy for my ring free week even though I've been using the nuvaring continuiously to skip my period?
Avatar n tn Hello. I inserted Nuvaring on the first day of my period three days ago and after some very light spotting for the next 1.5 days it stopped completely. I used condoms all the times that I had sex last month and I took a pregnancy test this morning which was negative. But is it something I should worry about?
Avatar f tn The only way to confirm is to take a pregnancy test. If you are not pregnant and you inserted Nuvaring late, use condoms for the first 10 days as an additional protection. Take care!
Avatar n tn so I've done the three week cycle with NuvaRing once and i took it out and had my period for a week. My period ended yesterday and i put my new NuvaRing in today. I remember my doctor telling me that when i first used NuvaRing that i needed to wait a month for it to work like with no condom, and so now that i put a new one in, do i need to wait a month again till i have unprotected sex or do i not need to wait at all?
Avatar n tn I currently have the Nuvaring in....will the coconut oil negatively affect the Nuvaring? I know that you're not supposed to use condoms with coconut oil and I wasn't sure if it would also hurt/harm the Nuvaring.....
Avatar f tn It is possible, yes. With NuvaRing, you need to use condoms for a month for it to be fully effective. However, you are definitely playing with fire. It makes no difference if you ovulate a few days later, as sperm last 5 days on average in the female body and 7 in perfect conditions. While calenders are helpful, they are by no means exact. It's safer to assume there is no safe time. You need to wait 2 weeks and take a pregnancy test with first morning urine.
Avatar n tn I gave birth to my son in November 2011 and started the nuvaring the first Sunday in January. It messed with my breast milk so I did not put in a new one the last week of January. I ended up spotting sometime during the first or second week of February. Here it is almost the third week of march and I haven't received a period yet but have a lot of menstral type cramping...which should have came (or at least I would think so), but my question is since I almost exclusively breast feed...
Avatar f tn I always use it as directed but lately I have been feeling a little off. My boyfriend and I don't use condoms and sometimes he doesn't pull out. My ring comes out sometimes but I always put it right back in within an hour. A few weeks ago after intercourse I noticed some bleeding which lasted for 3 days after. I never get spotting in between periods so I thought it was really weird. I have been having cramp like feelings for almost a month now.
Avatar n tn I just looked up Nuvaring and it looks like chest pain and numbness on one side of the body are side effects. I don't know if you would typically experience these symptoms so quickly though.
Avatar n tn ive been on the ring for six months and i take mine out on monday and seven days later i put it in on monday also wen i take it out on monday my period usually comes friday and last until sunday nite and this week it didnt i used condoms and had the ring in i dnt know wats goin on shuld i b worried i never missed a period wen i was on the ring before shuld i still put the ring back in without having had my period
Avatar f tn I've been on NuvaRing for about 3months now, and I know I'm using it correctly, I'm just slightly worried I might be pregnant. My boyfriend and I normally use condoms or the pull out method, but this time we didn't have a condom, and he didn't pull out quick enough. Should I go get a Plan B pill, just to be safe, or am I just being paranoid? My friend is on birth control as well, and says her and her boyfriend always have unprotected sex without pulling out, and she hasn't gotten pregnant..
Avatar m tn I started using Nuvaring in Feb. of this year. My partner and I also used condoms with it. Then on April 3rd, we opted not to use the condom and he came in me. I told him I was on birth control and that it should be fine. In the last two weeks my appetite has increased tremendously. I seemed to have gained weight in the last few days.
Avatar f tn Throw the ring away and choose 1 of the 2 options below: 1. Insert a new ring immediately. This begins the next 3-week use period. You may not have a period but you may experience breakthrough spotting or bleeding. 2. Have your period and insert a new ring no later than 7 days from the time the previous ring was removed or expelled. This option should be chosen only if the ring was used continuously for the preceding 7 days.
Avatar n tn During the first 7 days of using your first vaginal ring, you may need to use back-up birth control, such as condoms or a spermicide. Follow your doctor's instructions. The NuvaRing should be left in place for 3 full weeks. Remove the ring after 3 weeks, on the same day of the week it was inserted at about the same time of day. Allow 1 full week to pass before inserting the new ring. Your period should start during the week you do not wear a vaginal ring.
Avatar m tn I quit the nuvaring mid cycle, last month. i had put it in aftermy period and quit it a week after that. I bled again, for a week and then my cycle started over. Im two days late on my current period, am i pregnant?
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor I've been on Nuvaring for 10 months. And lately I have been feeling all strange and awful, so I've decided that I will end my relationship with my nuvaring. I was due to take it out yesterday, Wednesday 16 at 8pm. I'm suppose to reĆnsert it on Wednesday 23 but Ive decided that I won't anymore.
889551 tn?1416188083 I rushed to the midwife and she said there was no infection, and confirmed that I'm allergic to the actual NuvaRing. Just my luck! And there isn't anything she can give me to make the swelling go down, so I've had the pleasure of sitting on an ice pack. When I say swollen, I mean my area looks as though I just gave birth to a ten pounder. LOL. She wouldn't write me a script for a different birth control because at the present time, my blood pressure is 150/100.
730826 tn?1317946934 Ive been on alesse, yasmin, and now nuvaring. Though I love how easy nuvaring is, I think it is to blame for my nausea. I can never remember to take the pill so its out. Condoms are a no go, as are diaphragms. No shots or IUDs. Is there anything left? If I have to I can stick it out for the next 7 months as Im not as sick as I was when I was on Yasmin. Id just rather something that doesn't make me sick.
Avatar f tn But my question is with perfect use as directed, after I have my ring free week and insert a new one on day 7 do I still need to use condoms for 7 days after each time I place a new ring in?
Avatar f tn OH and by the way my breast hurt and I've had some weird cramping and some very bad heart burn. Maybe this is all due to stress. I really don't know. Thank you all and have a very blessed day.
Avatar n tn I haven't had sex since I took it out for good. AND every single time, the whole duration of my Nuvaring use, we used male condoms. Can I take this weeks bleeding as a definite sign that I am not pregnant and start fresh?

Avatar f tn On Oct. 17 I took my NuvaRing out and then I had my period Oct. 22-26 and was supposed to put the ring back in on the Oct. 24. I did not put it in until Nov. 1st, 8 days late. My husband and I had sex without condoms or any other contraceptive on Oct. 28th and Nov. 4th. My WomanLog app has my ovulation forecast on the 6th. My Qs: I know there is a possibility of being pregnant but I'm asking if it is a high chance? I am gonna take a HPT but what day should I take it?
1097140 tn?1257372765 I am trying to schedule a pap to get the rest of the testing done, but I am curious if the bleeding could be caused by the nuvaring itself. It is the first birth control that I have found that I like and it works really well for me. If it is causing the bleeding would it help if I removed it for intercourse and immediately replaced it, or does it become ineffective once its been removed? Also, if the blood/urine tests were all negative, what std/sti or other problem could be causing it.
Avatar f tn Because I saw a statistic that said 1 out of ten or 93 out of 1,000 women will get pregnant using nuvaring and I just want the most protection possible and also if I do it exactly am I protected enough to not need to use condoms? What are my odds? I am married so no worries for stds. I also just had a baby 10 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn I have also been experiencing many pregnancy symptoms. My partner and I do not use condoms and he does not withdraw. Could I be pregnant? (another concern is if it test if it will be accurate. My cousins did not have home pregnancy tests show up positive untill they were 9weeks+) If anyone has been pregnant using nuvaring I'd appreciate your input!
1467680 tn?1286437860 I am finding it rather difficult however to navigate the path of contraception as my partner cannot use condoms and I have had some form of skin reaction to some hormonal contraceptives. I am interested in trying Nuvaring or wondering if there are any other options out there.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy is always possible although not as probable with contraception. Just type in Nuvaring and condoms vs. condoms and no Nuvaring and see if you get an answer. good luck.
Avatar f tn Well my bf/partner and I have talked about having kids together (I have 2 already and he has none) and decided that if it happens it happens so we haven't used any back up protection. And if it doesn't happen now we'll wait til after the first of the yr sometime and start trying with no bc what so ever. Is there a chance I may be pregnant? I've had the nuvaring in since the day I had the mirena removed.. But have yet to have a period.
