Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.

I was at work and just a little stressed from running behind and I turned bright pink and splotchy mainly on my neck. I also got really overheated and a little shaky. I wasn't nervous or embarased. It lasted for about and hour and a half and then went away. I work as a hairstylist and everyone is asking what's wrong with me.

All of a suddena couple of nights ago, I got this itchy rash on the front and sides of my neck and upper chest. The only thing I did differently was take a protein shake, adding in a joint supplemental powder. MSM, Chrondrotin, etc. Has anyone ever had a rash from those joint supplements?

Avatar m tn Hello, I'm feeling really strange today and I cannot make it to my doctor until Monday so I figured I might ask here and see what people had to say. I'm a 31 year old male, with GERD and Hypertension. I'm currently taking Nexium 40mg 1x per day and Lisinopril 20mg 1x per day. I am overweight and not as active as I could be. I am 5'8" and weight about 220 lbs. I am a non-smoker and I do not drink frequently or use recreational drugs.
4358817 tn?1353346212 As of the past month I have been noticing that my face is flushing more than usual. I am not sure if it is due to new stressors, social anxiety, or my medications (Adderall 15XR and Seroquel 50mg @ night). I have been on these two medications for the past three years with no side effects so I am pretty sure that is not the sole cause of my redness. Prior to the past month when this started, when I talked in a large group my face would turn a hint of pink and fade in a few moments.
Avatar n tn Yes, but you should always talk to your doctor before starting a supplement. Niacin can have some side effects, it can cause facial flushing which takes some getting used to.
Avatar m tn I'm not a health professional, but your blood tests seem normal. Niacin can cause flushing and a feeling of high heartrate, I used to take that years ago, and I don't know what cayenne pepper can cause. If you are taking these products, I'd stop, unless directed to take them by your doctor. I'd suggest you get back to exercising. If you have a heart problem, it will manifest itself when you are getting your heart rate up to normal.
Avatar f tn Niacin is also known to lower cholesterol Usually taken at night before bed as your liver produces most of the cholesterol at night. I was able to lower my cholesterol by taking 500 Mg of Niacin (non flushing) at night. It actually had a larger effect lowering it than did the first Dr. prescribed statin to control cholesterol. Please find out whether your lab results are FREE T3 & Free T4. They sort of appear to be Total and not free numbers.
Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications, either prescription or OTC that contain niacin? Niacin can cause flushing which happens when our blood vessels expand (which niacin is used for) and the blood rises closer to our skin which can cause really intense sensations of heat, extreme itching and a deep red "flush" of color to our skin which is usually limited to the upper portion of our bodies...........chest, neck, arms and head. I'm afraid that pretty much sums up my guesses.
