niaspan

Avatar f tn I've read low dose aspirin may help decrease flushing in some people. You can buy non-flush niacin supplements though.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.
Avatar f tn Is it safe for me to take Centrum Cardio Vitamins (with plant phytols) to help lower my cholesterol? Also, does buffered niacin (or non-flushing niacin) work equally as well as regular niacin in helping to lower cholesterol? And is it safe to take with coumadin?

You may experience flushing at the start of your niacin program as well as when you increase your dose. In rare cases, a more marked flushing reaction may occur, resembling a rash or hives. If this occurs, speak to your doctor about whether you should continue using niacin.

Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.

Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). Avatar f tn Anyone tried niacin B3 therapy, or know of any success stories with natural treatments for schizo-affective disorder?
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
Avatar n tn Background: I have engaged a Niacin regimen to cut cholesterol (vs. using statin drugs) because Niacin also raises HDL and cuts LPa and triglycerides (while statins only cut LDL). I have been on this regimen since 2003 and the effect on my cholesterol/triglycerides and LPa has been more than as hoped for. Just as with statin drugs, it is necessary to get regular blood tests (ideally every 6 months) to ensure there is no liver damage.
Avatar n tn I have been taking vitamins and supplements off and on for years. I did have a 'flushing' with niacin a couple of years ago and so I avoid it now. All of a suddena couple of nights ago, I got this itchy rash on the front and sides of my neck and upper chest. The only thing I did differently was take a protein shake, adding in a joint supplemental powder. MSM, Chrondrotin, etc. Has anyone ever had a rash from those joint supplements?
345079 tn?1299202476 I have a problem with my HDL(good) levels of cholesterol it is hereditary and diet and exercise are not helping it at all. So a few months back my doctor told me I needed to take Niacin(vitamin B3 in high doses basically) so I tried it. Well it has the worst side effects ever. It causes major flushing, itching, burning of the skin. I felt horrible and started to panic pretty badly. Never took it again.

718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.

Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
1135275 tn?1586565652 A modified form of niacin called inositol hexanicotinate (or hexaniacinate) is said to cause less flushing than regular niacin. It may also reduce cholesterol levels. 1202943 tn?1347840652 Yesterday I had another episode of neck and facial flushing. I was at work and just a little stressed from running behind and I turned bright pink and splotchy mainly on my neck. I also got really overheated and a little shaky. I wasn't nervous or embarased. It lasted for about and hour and a half and then went away. I work as a hairstylist and everyone is asking what's wrong with me.
