niaspan

Avatar f tn ve been taking 250 mg of Niacin. Based on the previous TSH told me to decrease to 150. The last dosage said to decrease to 125 mcg. Is this weird?
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
Avatar n tn I have had the annoying ear fluttering for many years, and my regular doctors have been clueless. Finally I may go to an ENT, but I did some research on line and found this: http://www.emedicine.com/ent/TOPIC235.HTM My fluttering seems to be a type of muscular tinnitus, perhaps caused by deterioration of some nerves in the area after some type of injury and/or muscle spasm. What to do?
Avatar m tn B-12 crisis Overdoing the dosage of vitamin B-12 is generally not a problem for vegetarians, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) that carries an important warning about cardiovascular health. A study tested the effects of B vitamin supplements on more than 500 patients who had undergone coronary angioplasty. Half of the group received a supplement of folic acid, vitamin B6 and B12, while the other half received a placebo.

Avatar f tn There has not been a single treatment that has worked as well as Niacin for me (I have been searching for the correct treatment as soon as I started experiencing more serious symptoms, and the treatments I have tried unsuccessfully are lithium, seroquel, and paxil). Olanzapine seems to have a positive impact on me and I continue to take it as hopefully a preventative measure.
Avatar f tn Did you ever cure your tinnitus? If so, what worked for you? I had my thyroid removed in January 2016 and two weeks after my ears started ringing all the time and have never stopped.
Avatar n tn 40 mg is not high, it's the norm. Dosage of Simvastatin ca be as high as 80 mg. I am curious why you are on a statin with a total cholesterol of 160. What s your breakdown by LDL & HDL and do you have any risk factors of CAD currently? Plus, if your script was for 20 mg I would question the pharmacy about receiving 40 mg. Let us know when you can and we can speak more accurately about your dosage.
Avatar m tn Niacin is important for the conversion of carbohydrates, protein and fat into energy! Adults need about 16 milligrams a day. Almonds, Niacin Content: 1 oz, 1 mg Daily Value: 6%. Eat them right before you go the gym. Their high in L-arginine that can actually boost your carb and fat burn during your workout. Navy Beans, Niacin: 1/2 cup, 1.5 mg Daily Value: 9%. They contain resistant starch, a type of fiber that boosts calorie burn by up to 23%.
Avatar n tn com/viewarticle/458867_4 Regarding the issue of niacin lowering the cholesterol levels, Niacin or nicotinic acid lowers low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while raising the high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels(good cholesterol). But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.
Avatar f tn I would not be too concerned about TSH, as it is not a thyroid hormone, Free T4 and Free T3 and your symptoms are what should be used as a guide by your MD as far as medication and dosage. If you have these levels and the refference ranges for each, you can post them here for member comments and advice. Tinnitus is a symptom that some thyroid sufferers have. Welcome to the forum and good luck.
1135275 tn?1586565652 Niacin is toxic in too high a dose. Niacinamide isn't, and so that's usually used for mental health purposes, but it doesn't yield a lot of niacin. Niacin will also give you a hot flush on your skin, unless you buy a non-flush niacin, which is usually, again, niacinamide. Niacin is usually used for the heart.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing a worsening tinnitus in the last month and am quite discouraged with it. I assumed the reason for my tinnitus was damage from loud music (concerts and headphones). However, I went to the audiologist to have a hearing exam performed and it was found that while I may have some minor losses in the higher frequencies, my hearing is actually quite good. It was my understanding that tinnitus is almost always associated with hearing loss.
Avatar m tn It takes between 4-6 weeks for a dosage change to reach full potential, then it can often take a few more weeks for the body to "get well". Many people don't realize that hypothyroidism is an illness and we have to get well from it, just as we do from the flu or a cold or any other illness. The body heals the most important things first, like heart rate, body temperature, etc, so things like tinnitus, hair loss, etc might be last on the list of things to get better.
Avatar n tn I woke at 3:30 this morning with tinnitus that suddenly developed. It was 'loud' enough to snap me out of deep sleep, and has persisted at a relatively constant volume and has not changed at all. I perceive it less when there are other noises around, like talking or conversation. I've checked several possible environmental causes (t.v., router, etc.) but it's obviously not external as my wife can not hear it and my two dogs are also unperturbed.
414508 tn?1222627690 for the recipe listed under thomas recipe, i saw the p.m. recipe requires 50 mg niacin which my haelth food store only carries 500mg, took last night while detoxing from vicodin addiction and my skin was on fire.THOUGHT I WAS DYING!!!!! then i read bottle a.m. and sure enough, normal reaction. my question is: was the 50 mg listed a typo, was it supposed to read 500, if not i will have to cut down tablets. someone please help, pregnant and need to do this asap.
Avatar n tn hearing loss noise exposure medications general health-diabetes, heart disease stress/anxiety caffeine excessive use of aspirin/tonic water-anything with quinine head injury excessive wax tumors affecting the hearing nerve Unfortunately there is no medical treatment to cure tinnitus. What we have to do is determine the cause by ruling out the above causes for your particular case.
Avatar f tn just too much for my sensitive system I guess...but they told me to not try Niacin again. It was more (embarassing for ME) and FUNNY for everyone else!! I still get teased about it!!!
Avatar f tn I hope this is it. Is this possible? by the way, I think niacin helps. Niacin helps when our brain gets stressed and adrenaline produces a hormone that makes us feel bad. I took niacin today and that seemed to help. I will keep posting until I am done but I must thank those few who did give me feedback here. I didn't get very much feedback. but what little I got really helped. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I've read conflicting articles saying that niacin is necessary for thyroid function and then some that say it can lower thyroid levels and cause liver damage. I've seen it in some iron supplements and wondered if I needed to stay away from it or if it would be good to take.
