I think insurance companies are dropping many drugs because acceptable generic equivalents are available, as is the case with Nexium (Esomeprazole). The generic version of the drug will work very well for you. I'm betting you will be just fine. I wonder if you have considered discussing tapering off/discontinuing Nexium/Esomeprazole and see what happens. After having the Nissen Fundoplication surgery I was able to discontinue taking the drug and have been symptom free.

Had been on Augmentin for a sinus infection, just finishing up the script, and take Crestor, Nexium, and Zyrtec on a regular basis. Symptoms started a few days after starting generic Zyrtec, which also caused unbelievable dryness that felt like I was dehydrated (no vomiting, though). In several other countries, Nexium can now be made into a generic drug because the Nexium people lost their lawsuits in those countries .) I've been tempted to try to get the inexpensive generic form of Nexium from places like India or the UK, but so far I haven't done so. I will be happy when Nexium finally becomes a generic here in the U.S. The cost is ridiculous. I, too, have to watch drug prices.

Personally, I like Nexium. I think it is a better drug. I have a drug plan and I have to take Prilosec. I can't even get the trade name, I have to take the generic. I took Nexium for a few years and I do think it worked better for me. I don't know about water brash, sorry.

I know, because I was one of the ones reporting it (unfortunately). Pharmacies change their generic drug suppliers all the time, and that might be a causative factor for your recent increase. Something to look into, anyway.

The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.

What amazes me is Teva makes more off the US market than all the rest of the countries of the world combined. It can't be research and development which makes it more expensive for the US market since that happens in Israel. I do not think it is because they sell us more. My test results over the years which I get often tell me that nexium (same drug as prilosic) are not causing any problem at all.

My doctor and specialty pharmacist said for me to use something like Tums or the equivalent because it is calcium carbonate which will not interfere with the drugs or drug absorption. I use generic calcium carbonate tablets. They look like Tums, but are cheaper. They work.

When I do experience discomfort and/or pain, I take Buscopan (or a generic) to relax the spasm. Librax also helps but thats only on prescription. Men can take the same tabs, but will have to find an alternative for the bra........
