Neurontin for ic pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for ic pain

neurontin

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with IC 3 years ago, and take a nerve pain killer for another condition that I've heard prescribed for IC - neurontin- it doesn't help for me, neither do the anti seizure pills I've taken for migraines. You might try a partial agonist opiate, like tramadol, partial agonists make addiction much less likely, but, of course, are no where near as potent. You can find a lot of info about partial agonists and how they work on Wikipedia, of all places ! Goog Luck!
Avatar n tn The drugs that you mentioned (advil and tylenol) do barely help with my type of pain. Best pain medication for me is atarax (hydroxyzine, it's an antihistamine and works anti-inflammatoric in an IC-bladder ) for long-term-medication and buscopan in case of convulsions, to mention just two simple things. I hope I will hear somithing good from you soon. I totally know how you feel. It took me four years to finally get my diagnosis and treatment that could help me!
409451 tn?1206896632 Clinically it is used frequently in IC patients, but like most treatments for IC, results vary widely. It does have a drowiness side effect and often low doses are prescribed first (10mg twice daily) and the dose slowly increased while your tolerance developes. The usual end dose is 25mg 2-3times per day.It can take 2-4 weeks to reduce symptoms.
Avatar n tn Most of the time I still use the same number of pills per day of everything but I can switch up the schedule to get a milder or stronger effect depending on if I am having a good pain day or a flare up day. On flare up days, when I take the neurontin in conjunction with either percocet or valium 2 hours after the extended release morphine gets going, I get super fuzzy for awhile but my pain flare also goes down a lot too.
Avatar f tn I was given a test where my bladder was given two solutions in which the potassium one gave me an urgency and irritated my bladder. The pain was only mild, and from my understanding is that people with ic will experience a lot of pain from the potassium solution. The other solution did not bother me at all. Are there any other conditions such as endometriosis that wll react to the potassium test such as endometriosis? Does this mean since I could tell the difference that I do have ic.
Avatar m tn Of course, ours, which though it is mainly to network patients in Missouri and Arkansas it does also have a lot of information for any one with IC; MOARK IC The ICA is great and work hard to raise funds for research etc. The IC-Network has a lot of resources and information too. I hope that helps you, however if you have any other questions I can help you with just let me know.
Avatar f tn frequency, urgency and PAIN.The pain with IC is horrible. If you think you have IC, I would suggest to you, adhear to the strict IC diet and see if you start feeling better.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I did test for an infection and it came back clear. I was diagnosed with IC based on my symptoms. My cystoscope showed only minor inflammation. I tried to research whether IC is common with MS, it seems like it isn't but I'm not sure if that's because any bladder issues would be blamed on the MS rather than checking for other culprits. I think I will get through the weekend and if the pain is still there on Monday, I'll call the MS clinic.
Avatar f tn I am having really awful intermittent pain in my arm. My neuro wrote a script for Lyrica. My big concern about these nerve pain drugs (Neurontin too) is the weight gain side effect. I struggle w/weight as it is and don't look forward to adding more. Please let me know what you may have experienced.
Avatar f tn I have IC and it is painful. I'm lucky in the fact that I only have a mild case. I just went for my 6 month check up. I had noticed that in the mornings I wasn't urinating much. And sometimes I would even have to learn forward and strain to urinate. My uro did another Dilation on urinary tract and drained my bladder. He drained about 8-10 oz and I had just gone to the restroom right before the procedure. I'm not a dr and can't advise if you have IC or not.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with IC (and a secondary case of urethritis, which was treated) last March and have found considerable relief from Elmiron and a radical diet change (the IC diet, with a few exceptions that seemed to not cause problems for me). For the last couple of months, however, I have not always been able to pinpoint the cause of my pain. (Usually it can be traced back to something I have eaten or the need to have a bowel movement, but at other times there has been no apparent cause.
Avatar f tn It is possible that you have chronic cystitis or Interstitial Cystitis. I have IC and am an IC support group Leader for Missouri and Arkansas. I just posted to someone else with very similiar issue so will copy and post here as well. I hope we will try find good he Chronic cystitis does not always show on standard UA's or cultures since those test are designed to find low level bacteria.
Avatar m tn My pain management dr has put me on Neurontin to help with thoracic back pain, I have herniated discs that basically are not going to be fixed, no doctor wants to touch it. My question is how is this drug for long term treatment of severe pain, he also has me on Norco but I am hesitant to take because of addiction potential. If anyone has any input please let me know.
Avatar f tn Most uros will not continue to prescribe pain meds for a condition like IC, you have to go thru your GP or find a doc who will help you. Don't know why, maybe their prescribing limitations? or that they are not considered your GP. My hub has severe IC with Hunners and the whole shebang, and his nurse practitioner is his main man. He has been really, really good to us, altho he never had a male IC patient.
Avatar m tn hate to hear all this i deff can realte to what ur feeling i have both "ic" and endometrious there called the evil twins i was diag with endo at 20 but dr said had it for very long time befor i got checked and "ic" diag when i was 27 i just knew there was more then endo due to the pain was something you can't describe so got small surgrey done with camrea like ur getting and they found it and sent me to a specilast for it aswell i was getting pain med for yrs even turned
Avatar n tn Its done as an outpatient under local anesthesia and a temporary stimulator lead can be inserted first for a trial prior to placing a permanent one. It was not designed for pain but some patient's pain improves anyhow. Your Urologist would need to be trained in this procedure to do it. If your bladder is very small and scarred (holds less than 200 cc with distention under anesthesia) you may benefit from having your bladder removed as an ultimate last resort.
Avatar f tn endometriosis may lead to pelvic adhesions & both may cause pelvic pain.
151462 tn?1359172276 I did all the bladder instillations for years for my IC and it never had helped! The DSMO instillation actually caused me to be in severe pain and makes your mouth and breath smell like strong garlic.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn t have to pay for any treatments. IC is a neurological pain disorder. I have read artcles of women who have had help with long term anti biotics b/c most women with IC have 1 or 2 of these 2 antibiotic resistant bacterias. i do notice sometimes when i am on antibiotics it does calm down my pain sometimes. I hope they do come up with something. I want to have children one day and I am scared b/c of my IC and bladder.
Avatar f tn hi i'm new to the group and happy to find some info on IC. I have had out infections my whole life or so i thought! 2 yrs. ago i had another doctor for a few months while mine was on maternity leave after going in every 2 to 4 weeks with a uti she said "this is not normal and im going to start testing yr. urine."...all the further tests came back negative for bacteria but there is always blood and protein in my urine. So she said i have IC and there is no known cure....

Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with IC. I have been in acute pain for several weeks. My doctor prescribed Phenazopyrid(Azo) and Amitriptylin but nothing for pain. I called her back a few days after starting on meds and said that I really need something for pain and she advised me to just go to the emergency room. I am so frustrated with Dr's care. What medications have worked to control acute pain?
Avatar f tn I am the type of person who does not seek medical care unless I am in PAIN. I have recently been diagnosed with IC. Two doctors did nothing for me other than produce a diagnoses. I was offered medication but due to it's questionible results ....refused. I am not seeing any doctors at this time just trying to control my condition with diet. Personally, I do not think MD's have a clear understanding of IC. They can't even cure cancer or the common cold.
