Common Questions and Answers about Ms symptoms death

multiple-sclerosis

Avatar f tn I have Primary Progressive MS and my MS Specialist have said mine is mostly neuron death. It is not treated with steroids or any of the DMDs which are used for RRMS to slow the progression. I do not have attacks and remissions, just a steady progression. My symptoms are pretty much constant. Basically the only thing that gets treated for me is symptoms. Some of the new oral drugs are being studied in PPMS. So far there is no FDA treatments.
Avatar f tn A few days ago I had tingling in my wrist Of coarse I Google it and MS is first to come up. From there on all the symptoms have been popping up and I feel like I'm going to die. This has never happend to me. I'm 30 years old and scared to death. Could this all be anxiety???
199882 tn?1310184542 Carol, I think you are track with the MS "killing you". It's usually complications from MS symptoms that cause a death , pneumonia being one of them. Also, MS isn't the same condition with no treatments that anyone who is a grandfather wouldn't had access to years ago. As for the cause of death form the coroner, it depends what size town you live in etc.
Avatar f tn I am a 54 yr old female. Had cervical spinal surgery 1 1/2 yrs ago after a fall. Some of those symptoms of nerve damage have yet to disappear. Recently I had nystagmus which my neuro said couldn't be related to my injury. I also have many other new symptoms of MS. MRI shows a few lesions. My neuro attributes those to age. Have recently remembered my face going numb in 2005. MRI showed no stroke. Have had Grave's disease which turned into Hashimoto's.
1000946 tn?1253807847 I am so tired of reading that copd is a "death sentence". I was just reading the Respiratory board and thats all I see on there, why is this? Am I not scared enough? I know there is no cure like someone who has MS, but can't we live a normal long life? Im only 41 and my youngest is 9 months and with reading all of this Im now beginning to panic. My own nurse just told me over the phone like this illness was no big deal.........
Avatar f tn However, other disorders can cause these symptoms. What you need is a complete evaluation by an MS specialist (not merely a neurologist), further tests, and rule-out blood work. If everything boils down to MS, then you need to face that hurdle. But stop crying, 'cause it's not a death sentence. Many people here do very well indeed. It's better to know what's wrong, since then you can begin treatment. Why not hang in here?
Avatar n tn I received some blood test results back from when I had an autoimmune disorder test taken. The results were negative. Does this mean that MS is ruled out? I thought MS was an autoimmune disorder.
Avatar m tn Please understand that MS is not a death sentence even though it fills that way at times. Yes, you can go downhill sometimes, you can be in a bad flair. Please talk to your neurologist about your fears and how you are feeling. I see a therapist once a month, and am on an anti-depressant that helps. I used to see my therapist once a week. Finding that you have MS is scary and numbing and so misunderstood all at once. Don't lose hope.
Avatar f tn Hi, I don't have MS. I have been diagnosed with a genetic metabolic syndrome that's so rare it doesn't have a name. It's similar to Menkes disease in children but I didn't get any symptoms until I was 47. At first I tested positive for bone marrow cancer and had 5 cycles of chemo but then I got my neuro symptoms and further testing revealed an inability of my body to absorb or retain copper ( I just pee it out when your not supposed to) .
Avatar f tn I first if I could want to give some family history. My grandmother died in 1975, on her death certificate it stated MS as the cause. Now I am 43 years old, this past xmas I had a very severe viral infection. 6 weeks later i started getting burning numbness and tingling in my legs, I thought it was just tired legs do to age and the fact i walk 4 miles daily and have been for 3 years now. I was taking 1000mg ibuprofen only to realize it wasnt helping me.
1891806 tn?1391119037 Welcome! I'm glad you found us here and I hope we can put your mind at ease. First believe me when I tell you the future image of MS is no longer as bleak as it was 20 years ago. We know that most people who are on therapy for their MS do very well and manage to live a fairly normal, healthy life. That means not being in a wheelchair, that even means most won't need a walker or even a cane to get around according to the most recent studies released.
Avatar f tn Rarely does MS cause death. Like any chronic illness it sometimes does contribute to someone's death. This can happen in many ways. Usually it has to do with some form a paralysis. With Disease Modifying drugs and better medical care it rarely happens. It is not something most of us need to worry about. It is like my cancer.
Avatar n tn I'm a 28 yr old female and I was diagnosed with optic neuritis about 1 week ago, with no other symptoms, so my Dr sent me for an MRI last week. I picked up the results yesterday and the results came back that the MRI shows "prolonged T2 and low T1 signals" in 4 different spots on my brain, is this the same thing as lesions? The report notes that it is most likely MS. Are there any other diseases that have the same symptoms, or does it sound like it's most likely MS?
Avatar f tn As I was reading your symptoms I immediatly thought ms also. I know several people who have been diagnosed with ms and they all started with those type of symptoms. Have you seem a specialist yet? If not I would would try to locate one that specializes in ms and he would be able to tell you better if it is viral or possibly something else.
Avatar f tn I have a 12 year old son that became very ill in November 2010. We were told after that he would get better and then didn't. He is better than the original event but probably has MS because of it. Everything changed for us and for him. Yes, there is always going to be someone else that is worse but that doesn't change the sadness/anger/confusion/the unknown that you are feeling (someone told me this once :)) It is true. And you know, it is ok. The unknown is a scary place to be.
Avatar n tn Hey all, from a month i woke up finding a big blind spot in my right eye without any pain or headache or any other symptoms, i went to the ophthalmologist and he told me that everything's fine with my eye there's nothing wrong and he told me that's "probably" an Optic Neuritis so transferred me to a neurologist who requested a MRI+C which was normal too, then he said also that's "Probablyā€¯ ON but he wasn't sure because he didn't see the Inflammation through
Avatar m tn Anxiety can also be accompanied with panic attacks such as a feeling of impending doom or death. It seems that your symptoms do fit. It may take time for you and your physician to find the optimal pharmaologic agent to help with your symptoms. I agree with the poster that many of the illness such as ALS and MS would have likely expressed themselves by now if you were to have one of those. It is reassuring that you have had a complete workup including MRI and EMG that were unremarkable.
Avatar f tn I think this possibly could have been a ms hug and that pain causing the other symptoms from the stress and pain of it. My body had a major flare and part of that flare was numbness in my torso... My neuro stated it could be a ms hug... It was not painful. (I thought it was funny) After steroids and when I was crashing and in bed I had what I think is a truly painful ms hug ... It was a few hours of extreme pain through my rib cage.
Avatar f tn I have decided after careful review, that I do not want MS thank you very much. First extreme symptoms 7 hrs ago. Times of feeling like death warmed over since and family calling me a hypo. I can live with that. No eye problems, just pain, memory, falling down thing.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Many pathological conditions could be the possible causes of your symptoms like migraine attacks, thyroid disorders, spondyloarthropathies, peripheral neuropathies etc.Generalized anxiety disorder can cause nausea, headache, sweating, flushing, numbness irritability, decreased concentration etc.The other closest differential is fibromyalgia and post traumatic stress disorder .Fibromyalgia is diagnosed by a complete history and physical examination.
Avatar f tn I'm 19, and I've always been a nervous person. As a child, I worried about everything. If my mom didn't answer my call, I'd think she's dead or If she sick, I'd think she's dying. For years, I stopped worrying and it came back in middle school. I got talked about a lot so, I'm nervous around big groups of people not an individual person. My worrying gets worse when something involving death is around. I fear death. Anything associated with it makes me very scared.
Avatar n tn Hi, and another, belated welcome to the forum! You said they did an MRI of your brain and spine and it showed lesions. Did the report say that MS should be considered? How old are you? How did they prove that the numbness in your hands was Carpal Tunnel? Did they do an EMG, so just tell you that was what it was? We can say anything about what has caused your lesions. Yes, there are many diseases other than MS that cause brain lesions, but far fewer that also cause spine lesions.
