However PET scans as regards schizophrenia and bipolar are different and I have a photo (in the public domain) of a PET scan of a person with schizophrenia on my personal page and it shows marked deficits. I believe there would be some differences for bipolar as well. But a PET scan shows how the brain functions. The MRI is a scan of what the brain itself looks like and I am not sure if there is a difference.

Hello Everyone Few months ago i had an anxiety attack and i thought something is wrong with my health. So i did an CT scan from my head and a MRI from my neck thinking it might be a tumor and i did a full blood test. My doctor told me its all my thoughts and its because of my anxiety. I had a very hard 4 weeks of constant anxiety going to the emergency room 4 times for no reason during those 4 weeks. This was 5-6 months ago.

im 36 weks pregnant with first child (a little girl), ive have had a healthy pregnancy so far, im measuring big for my dates so they sent me in for a scan to find out weather i was retaining water or i have a big baby, on the scan they found a large CSP (cavum septum pellucidum) , and are now sending me into have a MRI scan to see whats going on? what does this mean?? and will it effect my baby atall? she has no abnormalitys anywhere else and this did not show up on my 20 week scan..

I get a stinging pain on top of my head on right hand side about tree inches from my forhead. It feels like a blister under the skin. I have had an MRI scan and have a small Mengioma but that is on the other side. There was nothing to explain the stinging. I read elsewhere on this site that Clanzpine 2.5 ml should work for it but it didn't say what the complaint was. Any idea?

I was wondering if someone could tell me which is better to examine someone looking for any cause of psychotic episodes -- MRI or CT scan? Also, what conditions might show up on either exam as the source of the problem? Thank you.

If you want to look at the photos I posted on my personal page there is one (in the public domain) of a PET scan of a brain with a person with schizophrenia and there are massive deficits in the area of the brain that processes thoughts. I may undergo a PET scan myself to see if a person on the next generation antipsychotics does not have or has less of those deficits but that would be in a clinical journal if published so I couldn't post that.

Even people on coma has shown nothing on MRI in several cases. You can go fMRI (functional MRI), SPECT scan. The best bet would be to go for Neuro phycologist.

My stroke doctor has told me that my basal ganglia has been affected by multiple strokes. I have had 12 CT brain scans and one MRI brain scan. Now he says I am no to have any more and for him to be notified whenever I am taken to hospital. I read that basal ganglia problems can be caused by radiation, so I am thinking that this is the reason for my problems-which affect my brain activity and walking.

Someone told me the big difference between 1.5T and 3T is the time it takes to complete the scan. He told me the 3T takes much longer. His brain endured too much pressure for too long before anything was done. His latest MRI results revealed extensive encephalomalacia in bilateral frontal lobes. Right frontal lobes extends posteriorly within the right middle frontal gyrus. Encephalomalacia in both temporal lobes, more in left. Right greater than left parietal encephalomalacia. Many of the areas of encephalomalacia have ribbon like areas of T1 shortening.

my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .

Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.

I have recently had an MRI scan and the report has indicated that I have a L5/S1 circumferential disc bulge whih displaces the exiting L5 nerve roots bilaterally.. On the left this effaces the perineural fate and contacts the L5 nerve root. A neurosurgeon has apparently reviewed my scan and said there is no evidence of this disc bulge without even seeing me and suggested tertherd cord syndrome should be investigated..
