Avatar f tn I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
Avatar f tn Long term use of Prednisolone can weaken your immune system making you prone for recurrent infections. It can cause osteoporosis, stomach ulcer, cataracts, weight gain; hirsutism etc.A drug is prescribed if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Discuss your concerns with your attending doctor. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn Methadone absolutely has made me gain weight and I do days of total fasting, with no loss. I take methadone for cripling back pain. Will switching to opana allow me to lose the weight I've put on and help back pain, which the methadone was taking more and more with less relief?
Avatar f tn You probably aren't doing anything wrong. But it could be that you aren't eating enough calories, which would put you into "starvation" mode, because your body doesn't know if there's going to be enough calories or not, so it holds onto fat. Another thing is a possible medical issue, such as hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, PCOS, adrenal problems, etc. All of these things can cause weight gain/inability to lose. I'd recommend that you get checked.
602504 tn?1219984096 Not having a thyroid its so easy to put on weight and have 26 other meds I take for RSDS, migranes, stomach, thyroid replacement that the side effects from them cause swelling, weight gain and other horrible effects. The VA usually will not give out this drug but my doc got special permission because of all my pain and pain history. You mentioned lymph gands I noticed last week there was some swollen in my right arm pit area like hard nodles and they are tender.
590447 tn?1218787837 Lyrica can cause you to put on weight. Maybe that's the problem with the weight gain. I take oxycontin 30mg 2x a day and norco (10mg hydrocodone/325 acetaminophin) for breakthrough pain. Seems to work pretty well for now. That may be high for you though because I have a natural tolerance to opiates. If you don't you may ask to try something in a low dose extended release. The problem with opiates is that you will build a tolerance over time and eventually have to up the doseage..
Avatar f tn I saw the NP at the pain clinic today. We decided to switch over to the morphine 15 to 30 mg. 3 times a day thinking a change in the BT med might help. So far, nothing. Except making me ravenous!!! (And I'm telling you, I killed myself getting to a size 8; I refuse to gain weight over a med that's not even helping the pain.) The Diluadid was like this, too, nothing. I probably need a stronger dose of the oxycodone, but I don't think she's comfortable upping the dose.
Avatar f tn t quote me on that but someone else on where that uses it will know. I know Sherry loves the patch. And she could also tell you if there is weight gain. I was on Gabapentin and I gained 30 pounds and am fianlly starting to lose it thank goodness. I have lost so much weight before I was on it and everyone kept telling me how good I looked and then I gained all that weight and felt like crap, I just hope to lose it fast.
525732 tn?1213046071 What can I do to change medication to please my husband. HE HATES my insomnia and rapid weight loss along with my changing habits. I have extreme mood swings and can't do the things I use to do. He doesn't understand what pain I am going through and can't quite accept things. I am waiting on surgery because my insurance and my surguon cancelled my surgery 12 hours before I went to the hospital.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I was on Cymbalta and found no changes in my weight due to that. But Lyrica did cause me to gain weight rapidly and without changing my diet. Once I stopped taking the Lyrica, though, that weight just dropped right off. It can be really hard to exercise when you have chronic pain. I found swimming helped as it was gentle on my joints. I also found, through trial and error, that I was able to use an elliptical machine, even with bad joint pain.
Avatar f tn I did some research and some of the top side-effects with the Morphine are Headaches and Drowsiness and dizziness and being light-headed. There are many more than that but those are the ones that were at the top. I don't know if that helped you or not BUT I hope that it did. I really think you might want to consider talking to your NP about switching your BT meds.
901222 tn?1399142874 Then comes the isolation and weight gain and eventual weening off until the next bad flare up. It is a drag to have to live this way. I think if I could treat the depression it would be better but have never been able to find one that works well for me. I have tried them all and am waiting for the new NMDA receptor anti depressants to be available. I will research lyrica.
Avatar m tn I take the morphine sulfate er 30 mg 3 x a day. I was on the fentanyl patch 100 mg every 48 hours. It was a much better drug but it is very expensive. If I don't have a spinal cord stimulator Implanted I will go back to the patch.I hope this helps you.
1033596 tn?1252519593 I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.
Avatar f tn When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.
Avatar f tn How long did it take people to gain weight, if any on Methimazole. I want to gain weight and nothing has happened. I've been on it for about a month now.
Avatar f tn This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly. Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen, so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.
Avatar m tn I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.
Avatar m tn t know much about this. Will I gain the weight back? Would the weight loss definitely be from the OT? Other symptoms I have are- I will tick what I've been tested for and given the all clear. Enlarged lymph node ✔️ Night sweats ✔️ Nausea ✔️ panic attacks ✔️ Anxiety ✔️ Paranoia ✔️ Vision loss ✔️ Memory loss ✔️ Shaking ✔️ Fevers ✔️ Slow heart beat ✔️ Irritability ✔️ Vomiting ✔️ Migraines near lymph node ✔️ Confusion ✔️ Feeling like I'm about to die ✔️ And more....
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar f tn SSRIs are notorious for weight gain, but Prozac has less of a weight gain potential (compared to say Paxil). Your weight gain may be natural - over the course of 20 years. Or it may be the result of the Prozac. But 2-3 pounds per year to gain from an SSRI is not very much. I was on Lexapro for 2-3 years and gained nearly 40 pounds in that time.
Avatar f tn I remember when I was doing my bachelor of nursing learning about a link between long term opiate therapy causing weight gain for 2 reasons - odema (water retention) and metabolism slowing down. I remember methodone, due to both its super long half life and the fact that therapy of methodone is usually long them - being mentioned specifically.
Avatar f tn It does make sense to take Abilify during the day if its keeping a person awake at night as it can be activating. If not it won't make a difference as regards weight gain. Abilify is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain. I have posted about the antipsychotics in development that won't do this but they still are not approved medications yet. If you were diagnosed with bipolar with psychotic features you need an antipsychotic.
