Avatar m tn Ketoconazole is therapy for fungal (yeast) infections, not for trichomoniasis. Metronidazole, which you took is the appropriate therapy. Alternately there is a drug called tinidazole which is also highly effective for treatment of trich. That your tests were negative is not suprising. As your doctor correctly told you, trich is difficult to diagnose in men. Treating you was the right thing to do.
Avatar f tn A few months back (March) I had intercourse with a "friend" and during the latter part of the month, I was experiencing some pain in my Vagina. It was itchy, sore and most horrible of all.. I had this awful green/yellow discharge. I had to change my underwear lots of times. When I found out that I had trich, I bought Metronidazole and took 2grams (1 dosage) of it. Metronidazole made me feel really sick! Anyway, after a week I realized that I still had trich.
Avatar n tn According to the Johns Hopkins poc-it recommends a 28 day course of Tinidazole or Metronidazole for Trichomonas causing Prostatitis. Is this a good way to go? Are there any other STDs to check? I feel that I am beyond the realm of an average STD clinic and my suburban urologist. Do you know any STD specialist (non-HIV) in the Bay Area that can help me please?
Avatar f tn Similar to what happens in many other biofilm-related infections, standard antibiotics, like metronidazole, are unable to fully eradicate the vaginal biofilm, which can explain the high recurrence rates of BV. Furthermore, antibiotic therapy can also cause a negative impact on the healthy vaginal microflora. These issues sparked the interest in developing alternative therapeutic strategies.
Avatar m tn First of all, thank your partner for telling you. Unfortunately, some do not. If she had trich. metronidazole is highly effective. As for your continued discomfort, treatment without an examination is not such a good thing. The treatment you received would be good for a bladder infection but not for the STDs most likely to be present, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or chlamydia.
Avatar f tn Further for you both to have been treated with medications for trich (tinidazole and metronidazole) which is also recommended. This leads to several comments which I hpe will be helpful: 1. When you were treated with azithromycin, was your GF also treated? This would have been appropriate to do, even though your tests were negative. 2. There are tests for trch that can now be done on both men and women.
Avatar f tn Since you might have a slightly resistant strain, it would be reasonable for him to also receive several days of metronidazole or tinidazole, instead of a single dose. But these treatments should take care of it. As to when you originally were infected with trich, it is really impossible to know. It could even have been well before November 2009. Discuss this with your NP and let me know if you have any further questions. But don't let this bother you much.
Avatar m tn t know it was anything to worry about. The good news is that treatment is easy and effective with Metronidazole or Tinidazole.
Avatar f tn Having had 5 negative cultures for trichomonas, plus repeated treatments for it (including tinidazole, which is superior or metronidazole), it is exceedingly unlikely that trichomonas is the problem. The same is true for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or other STDs. The most common cause of vaginal discharge is bacterial vaginosis, but that syndrome virtually always is accompanied by an obvious fishy odor and the discharge usually is gray/white, not yellow.
Avatar m tn In addition, it is now recommended that metronidazole or tinidazole also be given, to cover the possibility of trichomonas, which can be difficult to diagnose, especially in men. For continued persistence or recurrence thereafter, the drug moxifloxacin (Avelox) is sometimes used, to cover the possibility of an infection with Mycoplasma genitalium, which can be resistant to both doxy and azithromycin.
Avatar f tn i am afraid of stomach irritation. so can i switch to tinidazole after taking metronidazole 400 mg for 2 days. That BRATTY diet and other sweets i have been taking has left my mouth too sweet. i will get the other tests done sometime later. thanks again.
Avatar n tn i was once diagonised and was positive for cyst of entamoeba histolytica. i took metronidazole, then tinidazole and it seems to stop for 2 to 3 days and then pick up again. after some research i have come to beleive i am suffering from acute amoebiasis(http://suite101.com/article/amoebiasis-signs-and-symptoms-of-the-disease-a230495). thats is the only safe explanation i could get from my condition.
Avatar m tn Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Therefore, both partners should be treated at the same time to eliminate the parasite.

Above is the treatment recommendation by the CDC. I would suggest following up with your Dr.
Avatar f tn Mucus can be due to internal hemorrhoid or it can also be due to amoebiasis (if you feel an urge to pass stool) which is an infection. It is effectively treated with metronidazole and tinidazole. You should get your stool examined for this infection. At times a hemorrhoid is associated with fissure and this too can be a cause. Inflammatory bowel conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis too can cause mucus in stool. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined.
Avatar m tn What would be a possible course of treatment for the Metronidazole-resistant Trich? I read, that perhaps Tinidazole would be the next choice of drug? If yes, what dosage should be effective? Question 5: I tried to comb through the net to find anything about after how much time the symptoms of Trich should start disappearing when treated with drugs? (Non of the countless sites mention that at all). Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn And by the way, although single dose treatment with metronidazole (Flagyl) or tinidazole (Tindamax) is the norm, single dose treatment is only about 90% reliable; treatment for 5 days is more reliable. And in men, tinidazole appears to be more effective than metronidazole. You and your partner should discuss these aspects with your doctor. I hope this has helped.
Avatar m tn You have not told us what you have been treated with. Were you treated for Trich with Metronidazole or Tinidazole? If you weren't, you should go back and request this treatment as Trich is one cause of persistent NGU. It should not take months for your discharge to go away, it's a sign that something isn't right.
Avatar n tn I have seen that it is harder to detect in men. I have also seen that one does of either Metronidazole (Flagyl®) and/or tinidazole (Tindamax®) is sufficient enough. Do you or anyone else know if this is true? Of course I will ask when I call, but I was just curious.
Avatar f tn The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy, frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn She gave me metronidazole signal dose. I confronted my babys dad and he denied ever cheating on me, so I told him the proof I had then he admitted to cheating on me. Needless to say we no longer have sex except for ones but ill get to that. Anyway told him he needed to get treated for it as well. And he did. In the mean time I was still having systems so call dr again and she gave me metronidazole the 7 day dose. Still no help. I tried calling dr again and she called in fluconazole 150mg.
Avatar m tn There is no evidence that trich causes prostatitis, but some doctors include one of the anti-trichomonas treatments (metronidazole or tinidazole) if other antibiotics don't work. Usually it has no effect, but there's probably no harm in trying.
Avatar f tn Try metronidazole (my sppelling isn't ggreat either) but yh I had them all non workd I became reli depressed I jus askd 4 the longest course of this 1 because I noticed my symptoms went whilst on the short course but they cam bak after with the long course it never came bak 'touch wood' it is horrible makes u scared n constantly worrying I no the feelin, if u needa chat am here
Avatar f tn I have taken three rounds of the single dose. Twice of Metronidazole and once for Tindamax. Then a couple weeks later Metronidazole twice a day for seven days. I saw no change in my symptoms. When I realized that I wasn't getting better I went back to my obgyn, thats when they told me again that its "inactive". I told her I didn't know what that meant and she said that it means its not moving and said its like little spores of trich.
Avatar f tn Alternatively, probiotics have been proposed as adjuvants to antibiotic therapy [[meaning, using probiotics following the use of antibiotics]]. Several combinations of metronidazole, clindamycin or tinidazole with lactobacilli probiotic preparations have displayed promising results in BV treatment since they have been associated with high cure rates, low recurrence or quick re-establishment of an healthy vaginal microflora (Marcone et al., 2010; Bodean et al., 2013; Recine et al., 2016).
