Metronidazole or flagyl

Common Questions and Answers about Metronidazole or flagyl

Avatar m tn doxycycline, azithromycin, ofloxacin, or erythromycin. that clears up Chlamydia Metronidazole clears up bacteria infections that dont need oxygen to live...meaning it is used mainly for they curing of Trichomoniasis So NO it wont clear it up unless you have Trich which you dont! dont take the meds and go see your dr and ask for listed drugs above and I suggested. hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn This question would be better addressed to your pharmacist or your doctor. I know that metronidazole is an antibiotic (brand name Flagyl), but I was always under the impression that it was used for skin infections, yeast infections, and infections in the joints. I've never known it to be prescribed for an abcessed tooth, however maybe it's because you have lupus that your doctor wanted to prevent the bacteria from your tooth abcess from attacking your joints, I don't know.
Avatar n tn Nausea, exhaustion, dizziness, acid reflux, etc are normal, Flagyl is an absolute beast to take, but mental confusion, blurred vision, tingling or numbness or burning, all are much more serious. I've had to take flagyl a lot this past year for a condition I have and my doctors have stressed to me that those symptoms should not be ignored.
Avatar m tn You can google search on the medical term for this - "Toxic neuropathy -- Metronidazole". In a quick search, it looks to me like once flagyl is discontinued, she should recover fully although it may not be quick. Best wishes.
1138687 tn?1548647578 Stool tests came back negative but given my symptoms and severity the doctor prescribed me 500 mgs 3x a day of Flagyl (metronidazole), to treat what is suspected to be a parasite. That is a fairly high dose by the way, as 250 mgs is the common treatment for giardia! Also, giardia treatment is 5 days, and I am being treated for 7 days!
1049259 tn?1295092078 Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using Metronidazole will experience that or any side effect.
Avatar n tn I took only 2 days' worth of flagyl (metronidazole) 3 months ago. After the first 2 days, I noticed tingling/burning in my feet, so I didn't take anymore. It initially lasted about 3 days. Then, I was completely symptom-free for a month. Then, the pain came back. It's been off and on since, but has seemed to have gotten more intense and is sometimes in my hands as well.
Avatar f tn i started Metronidazole(Flagyl) last sat.-19th till now today, sat.-the 26th i finished the medicine. I am now have some bleeding. my period isn't supposed to start until next week at least until friday or after. My periods have always been normal they are not irregular at all. They don't start early. The one thing I can think of could be causing this is the medicine making it start early?? When I took the medication last yr.
7052683 tn?1392942395 tHi Guys, I am throwing this question out there for anyone who has had experience (good or bad) with the drug Metronidazole. My Bat Mia had some biopsies done and it showed she had a Heliobacter Infection--which is like a developing ulcer in humans. She was give this drug to be taken twice daily, along with Azithromycin, and 1/4 tab of Prilosec. She seems a little lethargic and is under the bed , so I looked up this drug and the comments were very worrisome.
Avatar f tn What I'm nervous about is the treatment. It's either metronidazole (flagyl) or vancomycin. Has anyone experienced this or taken these antibiotics during early pregnancy?
Avatar m tn how soon after after taking 2000mg of metronidazole for trich can i have unprotected sex without infecting partner?? it would be great if you give me number of days.
Avatar f tn i've experienced an adverse reaction to metronidazole aka flagyl: burning pain, tingling, numbness, pins and needles, feeling wet when i'm not . . . doctor can you please help me: how long after stopping the drug can i expect to experience these symptoms? what can i do to speed recovery please? are pain meds like neurontin or antidepressents necessary to facilitate healing? fellow "patients": anyone have this happen? any sucess? Avatar f tn I just had a thought this evening that most of the problems I have had have occured after taking Flagyl (Metronidazole). I am showing symptoms that are confusing my Drs and have been for about 4 years. When I look back on when I began feeling poorly it seemed to happen after taking Flagyl. Because I never got a rash or anything whilst on it I didn't think I was allergic but the side effects and after effects I've had seem to be quite bad.
Avatar f tn -- azithromycin (Zithromax) and atovaquone (Mepron) for 4 months -- clindamycin (Biaxin) and cefdinir (Omnicef) for 5 months -- stopped due to edema -- metronidazole (Flagyl) and azithromycin (Zithromax) for 4 months + 1 week -- stopped (dr's orders) due to severe intestinal inflammation from Flagyl Now 3 days after stopping the meds, I can feel the disease symptoms creeping slowly back, and want to figure out (before seeing my dr again) what tricks there are to tolerate these meds again s
Avatar m tn NOTHING seems to get my papillae return to their normal length like it was before I took Flagyl (metronidazole) for a week. While I took that Flagyl stuff it was like someone flipped a switch and my papillae elongated to give my to give the hairy look... And has NEVER returned to normal. If I could go back in time I would never take that awful stuff. I wish I had better news. I have showed this to 2 dentists and my regular DR and my dermatologist.
Avatar n tn It has to be treated with an antimicrobial. Flagyl works in some cases. It needs to be monitored to make sure it clears so work with a doc who knows what they're doing when it comes to C. diff. Not all docs are familiar with its treatment.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with C. diff. After my second hospital stay, I was sent home with Metronidazole 500MG tablets to take with food 3X a day. I am on my 8th day of taking this, and still have diarrhea with a loss of appetite. When will the diarrhea clear up? After the Flagyl treatment is completed? Should I be taking a probiotic supplement along with the Flagyl? I have no other symptoms other than the diarrhea/bloating.
Avatar m tn good that I did not take it.. :) Metronidazole (Includes Flagyl) ↔ Liver Disease Moderate Potential Hazard, High plausibility Applies to: Liver Disease Metronidazole is extensively metabolized by the liver to both pharmacologically active and inactive compounds. The plasma clearance of metronidazole may be decreased and the half-life prolonged in patients with impaired hepatic function.
Avatar n tn I tried the monistat again. I dont know if it helped or I just felt better due to stopping intercourse but I had sex soon after and then felt symptoms similar to the beginning of a uti. No burning just feeling of very full bladder and a lot of pressure and frequent urination. I was taking probiotics, cranberry pills and colodal silver and it seemed to be getting better. But after a few days came back and I also started having yellow discharge.
Avatar f tn Metronidazole is typically used to treat vaginosis, specifically BV and trich. It's also used to treat other gram negative rods. But in terms of STD treatment, it's really not used for anything except trich, which could cause the itchiness you're talking about, but it also is accompanied by discharge. So to answer you question, Metro should not have caused any false negatives, unless it was Trich and even then they could probably see dead cells in a scope.
Avatar m tn They went ahead and gave me single-dose blasts of metronidazole (aka flagyl) for the possibility of trichomoniasis, and azithromycin for the possibility of chlamydia. Everything I've been advised and read says those should have cleared up the symptoms with 7 days. But it's now been 9 days, and the burning persists. What could this mean? Could I have not received a strong enough dose, and need more (I weigh 225 pounds)? Or could there be a non-STD cause for this? Uuggghhh . . .
Avatar f tn We decided to try Flagyl because I thought it might be a parasite issue that they didn't see... and the vet told me that it would help her with her diarrhea. I has had NO POSITIVE EFFECT, except it has changed the color and smell of her stool. Personally, I do not think the testing that was done was very comprehensive. TESTING DONE: Blood work and stool sample which was several hours old at the time I gave it to them. I don't know how comprehensive the stool sample tests were...
Avatar m tn ( Should we continue treatment? What is the possible cause of this diarrhea? Is there any other treatment that wouldn't require forcing pills in his mouth? Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar f tn I take metronidazole if that's flagyl and I have bv my doctor told me it's okay to take it while pregnant
Avatar f tn Though my pain has lessened and I went to doc she gave me Metronidazole Vaginal Gel for 5 days.
Avatar f tn In other words, before oral sex even begins, consider the use of a dental dam (lets be real though, that almost never happens these days) or send him to brush his teeth and use mouth wash while he's at it. Flagyl almost always causes yeast overgrowth so even though you treated yourself with over the counter medication the fact that you began Flagyl/Metronidazole after the fact possibly caused the overgrowth of yeast again.
Avatar f tn So I went to my gyn and she gave me 2 different antibiotics to insert vaginally. She gave me Terconazole and Metronidazole. Again, my symptoms got a a little bit better, but I still had weird sensations and itching on my vulva. About a week later I went back and she did another exam, and diagnosed me with BV. I was then put on Metronidazole oral for a week and given probiotics. I just finished the antibiotics and have been taking the probiotics orally.
