Avatar m tn Trich is not known to cause serious complications in men. It does call a small proportion of cases of non-gonococcal urethritis in men, presenting as local urethral discharge and discomfort on urination. (2) In men does Trich "go away" after a few weeks? Yes, in most men the infection appears to resolve spontaneously. (3) Is there any reliable Trich test for men IE Gen-Probe??? The GenProbe assay is highly reliable.
Avatar n tn My concern is trich, its not common in uk but i have read its difficult to detect in men and women dont have symptoms commonly. With this I took 7 days of metronidazole 400mg twice a day and no relief. My question is can I rule trich out now? I read metronidazole is not always effective. Thanks for this great service.
Avatar f tn The doctor prescribed me a mega dose of the metronidazole and said I should feel better in 24 hours. I did NOT feel better in 24 hrs I waited a week because everything online kept telling me the symptoms could take a week to subside but when they didn’t I called my doctor and she prescribed me another mega dose. This one did absolutely nothing but make my symptoms worse my cervix hurt so bad.
Avatar n tn I took the 1shot dose of metronidazole monday. i had sex unprotected friday and sunday.
Avatar n tn A few months ago I had unprotected vaginal\anal sex with a woman. Within a few days I had a lot of discomfort in my urethra and minor, clear discharge with no odour. I'm in the UK so went to the local GUM clinic, I've been tested for everything under the sun and all tests are negative. One swab test did show some pus cells so I was treated with Ofloxacin for 2 weeks which made no difference to my symptoms.
Avatar m tn In our clinic, given your recurrent symptoms, you would have been treated with the alternate medication recommended for chlamydial infection (doxycycline) plus metronidazole, not just metronidazole alone because of the (unproven) possibility that you might have failed your recent treatment. Several additional thoughts arise however. First, your testing sounds unusual.
Avatar n tn She used the Metronidale gel for 5 days and her symptoms disappeared. I took Metronidazole 500 mg PO q12h x 7 days. I thought I started to feel better toward the 6th day, but still with some urge to urinate and discomfort. Then, about 3-4 days later, my discomfort was even worse then before. The urge to urinate was constant, discomfort in the urethra, and I felt as if my perineum hurt (swollen Prostate?), & scrotum burning. The clinic prescribed Tinidazole 2g for 5 days as a follow-up.
Avatar m tn I have a really wierd discharge from my penis after successful Chlamydia treatment. During the first round of Chlamydia treatment, azithromycin didn't work according to my retest, so I took Doxycycline and according to the results from the test last Saturday- I am now free and clear of both Chlamydia and Gonarrhea. However, I have this new type of discharge that happens in the morning. The discharge appears similar to semen but it can't be. Urination is painful.
Avatar m tn Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Above is the treatment recommendation by the CDC. I would suggest following up with your Dr.
Avatar f tn Testing for trich in men is very unreliable. The standard tests usually used in men miss most infections. His negative result doesn't man much. He probably has it and needs treatment to prevent you being reinfected once again. So as I said above, please don't be upset about all this. You aren't alone, and I doubt your partner has been unfaithful. The most important thing at this point -- and probably the only important thing -- is that you both be treated.
Avatar n tn I am about to finish metronidazole 750mg x 7 days. i am wondering how long it should take for all symptoms to be gone?
Avatar m tn Almost all trichomonas infections in men are entirely asymptomatic, and men usually know they have it only when a female partner gets infected. Rarely it can cause nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), with urethral discharge and/or uncomfortable urination. It probably can linger for years. Nothing shows up in urinalysis or routine culture. Happily, trich is harmless in men and usually not serious in women either.
Avatar f tn Approx 3 wks after having intercourse with my girlfriend, i began having a frequent, painless discharge from my penis. I saw a urologist. A dip was performed for UTI (negative). Due to no other symptoms and a very long time between sexual relationships, he felt it was nothing serious and possibly overactive glands. I continued to have sex with my girlfriend.
Avatar n tn Yes, I agree with your doctor's decision. The CDC now recommends re-treatment of men with persistent NGU with 1.0 gram of metronidazole (Flagyl) in addition to erythromycin. The reason for the recommendation is that a substantial proportion of men with NGU also have co-existent infection with trichomonas. Trichomonas is difficult to diagnose in men but can certainly be a cause of persistent discharge and symptoms. I suspect this will help. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I am taking Metronidazole for BV and Penicillan for strep throat but my partner and I have been trying to have sex and I have no sex drive is that affecting it?

Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
