Avatar m tn This would be 3 stool samples in different containers. Did you do 3? I am wondering if they suspect c diff since they gave generic flagyl which is used to treat that. But if C diff you would not want to take immodium because that will keep the toxin in you longer or infection if you have an infection.
Avatar m tn Your doctor is on the right track thing parasitic, because of the sequence of events you described. Though Flagyl(metronidazole) is used for some parasites(mainly E hystolitica), the symptoms you are describing are more specific for G. lamblia, a microscopic, protozoan parasite. Some strands resistent to Flagyl. The correct medication would be albendazole(generic name).
9065649 tn?1418261807 (bacteria vaganosis) they finally gave me medicine for it... i got the generic brand for Flagyl?! Called METRONIDAZOLE... and it cleary says NO BREASTFEEDING on the bottle why would my doctor give me this and i told her my son still BREASTFEEDS... also your supposed to ONLY GET 14PILLS NOT 30!
Avatar n tn metronidazole) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was several years ago, and Lyme treatment approaches are still developing, so don't take this as the 'correct' treatment. There are many variables, and no one specific way to treat. ==>> Most especially: do NOT try to diagnose yourself or medicate yourself without the involvement of a trained and experienced Lyme specialist. Lyme is *not* a do-it-yourself project.

Avatar m tn I've never heard of cold tubes used and really can't imagine that type of thing works. You need to see your doctor for flagyl, or generic name, metronidazole which is the standard of care for treating bacterial vaginosis.
Avatar n tn I had BV while pregnant, and they gave me Clindamycin (generic for Cleocin) and I had an allergic reaction to it. They then gave me Flagyl, and it cleared it right up. I would try to get a round of oral antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I am finishing up 10 days of metronidazole (generic flagyl) for bv. I found out I had bv because I started having contractions. I'm 23wks today. I was told it is a very common infection and it is easily contracted. Not only I but my partner needed to be treated because it can be passed back n forth, but it is not an std. I am a registered pharmacy tech and looking in my pill description book it says nothing about causing miscarriage.
Avatar m tn I have switched up meds a lot. You need to be on a cyst busting medication too. For example I do a 2 week rotation of Flagyl that kills the cysts formations. Also if you herx, that will make you feel worse but is a good thing because it proves you are killing the bugs. Let us know if you have other questions.
Avatar n tn Are you sure the diagnosis was confirmed, or just suspected by your doc as a possibility? In any case, if you were treated appropriately for it (several days of the antibiotic metronidazole [trade name Flagyl, plus various generic versions]), you can forget about it. Otherwise, after the multiple medical evaluations and lab tests you have had, you can be sure you don't have a continuing treatable STD. To answer your specific questions: 1) I am inclined to agree with your urologist.
Avatar f tn After many docs and almost a year later, I finally had a Lyme and babesiosis diagnosis. I was treated first for the babesiosis, with Zithromax (generic name: azithromycin) plus Mepron (generic: atovaquone). 4 months treatment time. Then when that was done, I was treated for Lyme, first with Biaxin (gen: clarithromycin) and Omnicef (gen: cefdinir), and then switched to Zithromax (gen: azithromycin) and Flagyl (gen: metronidazole).
2109342 tn?1380912575 ================================================ YEAST/FUNGAL OVERGROWTH WHILE ON ANTIBIOTICS Yeast overgrowth can occur, especially in females (vaginal infections).Gynecologists recommend Nizoral, Diflucan, Mycelex, or anti-yeast creams.
1420263 tn?1282356396 YOu probably have vaginitis and not a yeast infection which is treated with a medicine called flagyl. It comes in a gel that is inserted into vagina or pill form. Metronidazole I believe is the generic namr. Vaginitis has a fishy smell to it...a yeast infection should not have that fishy smell. If you take a mirror and look the discharge for a yeast infection should look like cottage cheese and is really itchy!. It takes all of 7 days and maybe a couple more to feel normal down there again!!!
Avatar n tn Thank you for the quick response! I forgot to mention that I am on a medication called Metronidazole ( generic for Flagyl) 500MG Tablets taking one tablet twice daily for seven days. I started this medication yesterday. Will it some how effect the HIV test? Probably a silly question....just curious tho. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn My eyes have become infected now as well. Doctor at hospital has prescribed a single dose of Metronidazole (AKA Flagyl) which I took today and also a 14 day course of Taravid (AKA Ofloxacin).
Avatar n tn There is broad consensus that the preferred treatment for BV is metronidazole (Flagyl is a trade name, but generic versions are equally good) for 5 days. Single dose treatments are poor. The other antibiotics are less effective, or at least no better. Creams and other intravaginal treatments aren't as good. Putting acidophilus or other supposed lactobacillus preparations in the vagina have no effect.
Avatar f tn Doc gave me Flagyl in a generic form (Metronidazole?) as a once a day pill to help clear up the gastric concerns. He only gave me enough for 7 days. I'm wondering if that's the med you mean? Scooter has acted like he feels really good for the last 24 hours. Playful, awake a lot, etc. Doc didn't mention re testing but Ask a Vet said to retest in 4 - 6 weeks IF he shows no sign of illness before then. If he acts sick in any way, to have him tested immediately.
Avatar n tn The usual treatments for trichomoniasis are metronidazole (Flagyl and other brands) and tinidazole (Tindamax). But you're obviously improving, so hang in there. The final mystery is where and when you were infected. Trich can be carried for months, perhaps years. I would be somewhat surprised if you were infected during attempted intercourse without successful penetration.
Avatar n tn I'm a bit concerned because I see no treatment for vaginitis here - you would either be on flagyl orally or in a cream (the generic is metronidazole), or something called clindesse. Baby oil can break down the latex, but it doesn't sound as if that happened. Maybe you are having a reaction to the baby oil itself - that might have caused all this. Get a good water based lube like KY, Wet, Astroglide, Sliquid, etc.
389797 tn?1200693362 Said I had inflammation to my colon and was given antibiotics, cipro and metronidazole(generic for flagyl). They don't know exactly what I have cuz some of my symptoms but not all was either that I have Diverticulitis or Inflammatory Bowel Disease. During this pain and treatment, I had tremendous back pain, couldn't sleep at night for 3 weeks. The back pain is a little better now and am able to sleep, but I don't feel like eating too.
Avatar n tn The newer drug tinidazole (Tindamax) probably is more reliable in men than the old standard, metronidazole (Flagyl and generic brands). But don't get your hopes up. All things considered, my bet is you have the male chronic pelvic pain syndrome. CPPS used to be considered a form of chronic nonbacterial prostatits, but the prostate itself probably isn't usually involved at all.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for taking such an interest in my conditions and for that advice. I do not know how serious the consequences would be should it be a problem of C Diff. I don't know if my dentist or doctor would make me decide if I want to save myself fron C Diff or to save my teeth.
1423392 tn?1286593990 It's a fairly common med. Metronidazole is the same as Flagyl, which I was on for a long time to fight Lyme. No problems for me. Cefuroxine is generic for Ceftin, which is also fairly commonly used. These are strong meds, but not awful. Don't be afraid of them -- just keep a watch for developing side effects, so you can alert the doc and s/he can switch things up. One or two of these don't mix well with alcohol, so just give up all alcohol for the duration of treatment.
Avatar n tn Which is Zithromax 250MG/Generic=Azithromycin=4 pills. He prescribed Flagyl 500MG=Metronidazole=14 pills. He prescribed Clobetasol .05% cream=a topical steroid, which I was going to use if I needed it after the antibiotics, but I didn't (maybe I used it for 2-3 days) - I was worried about the steroid, b/c of the fact that it thins the skin and it seemed counter - production intuitively to me). Anyhow the Antibiotics worked great! My body was able to heal itself after the Antibiotic Napalm Bomb.
Avatar f tn My doc used not herbs, but Flagyl (generic: metronidazole) for that purpose -- he's not much of an herbal kind of guy. Flagyl worked well for me, paired with the antibiotic that does the actual killing of the Lyme bacteria after Flagyl kicks down the door. I think there are other meds that work the same way.
Avatar n tn metronidazole) to help penetrate a slimy shield the bacteria create for themselves that protects them from direct action by the penicillin/azithromycin. You might ask your doc about his/her thinking on that point. I'm not medically trained, but I've read about that approach and my LLMD used it.

10506901 tn?1431354357 metronidazole) BOTTOM LINE: there is NO 'standard' Lyme treatment, and do not try to self-medicate. Lyme is a serious ailment and must be diagnosed and treated by a competent MD. Sorry to lecture, but there are lots of people who don't want to deal with docs, and that way lies trouble -- Lyme treatment is *not* a do-it-yourself project ordered from the internet.
Avatar f tn So he gave me 2 months of Cefuroxime Axetil (generic of something) 500 mg. And I'm supposed to take two a day for 2 months. I'm supposed to go back in two months after this course of antibiotics and if I'm not feeling better he said he might have to put me on IV antibiotics. Has anyone ever heard of this antibiotic? And by his treatment method does this sound like an LLMD to you guys?
