Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
1347434 tn?1282595378 metoprolol tartrate, and metoprolol succinate, the later has a time release property. While this requires only one dose per day, it's cost is much higher than metoprolol tartrate, and some insurance companies place it in a higher tier co-pay. I've been on this drug for about 6 years. I originally got on it for its well known side effect of slowing the heart rate.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn or at you last meal if it requires a meal and you take only once a day. I have taken as much as 200 mg of Metoprolol, 100 morning and 100 night. That really knocked me down. As I as after was a slower heart rate, which it did help. I am surprised if it causes a fast HR for you, may be something else. I now take 50 mg once a day, and I take it after my evening meal.
Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
Avatar m tn he said that the 25mg was a really small dose and that weaning off would not be a big deal like I asked him because I read everywhere that metoprolol is hard to get off of and he reassured me that it is a small dose, what i didn't ask him this time is if 50mg twice daily is still considered a small dose. is anyone else taking 50mg twice a day?
Avatar m tn Hello. Just a quick question. I was put in metoprolol just to slow my heart rate a little ...about a month ago but it been making me feel really weird immediately after taking it for hours and hours. I contacted my doctor and his nurse told me to stop taking it over the weekend and monitor my heart rate over the weekend. However I've read it's extremely dangerous to just stop this medication and now I'm a little scared. My dose is only 12.5 mg a day.
Avatar m tn The side effects were really hampering my ability to function throughout the day. About 3 weeks ago i tapered off metoprolol of which my last dose was 1 1/2 weeks ago. everything went fine but now am having issues with blood pressure spikes, chest pains. tachy-cardia spells and dizzyness. I really feel crummy. My thinking was that I was having withdrawls from not taking metoprolol but why the symptoms after almost two weeks from taking it?
941118 tn?1312285526 Has anyone tried to get off of Metoprolol? I am reducing it per doctors orders and have lots of dizziness.
1933354 tn?1323366434 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar n tn After several months I got hives and some food sensitivity that is evidently a side effect, so I decided to stop. My cardiologist seemed to think this is a low enough dose that I could just stop cold if I wanted to, but I thought I'd see what folks thought, if I should taper off.
Avatar n tn I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice and day because my heart rate was a little high when I saw my doctor 122 bpm. I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner.
Avatar f tn I was on a low dose of metoprolol for about a month. It slowed my hearbeat down to the 40's (I have bradycardia anyhow), which is too slow. I dropped it cold turkey, having been told by my cardiologist at Mayo Clinic that I could do that with no adverse effects. He was right: no bad effects. I feel fine. Maybe your problems are due to something else???
Avatar n tn They come and go in intensity but have lately been really active. I finally started to take Metoprolol 25mg 2x day. I haven't noticed any significant change in improvement other than maybe they don't feel as strong but they are still there. At what point do I discontinue the meds or is there some valuable benefit to a beta blocker as far as overall heart health.
Avatar f tn I also have a mild mitral valve prolapse. I was placed on metoprolol 25mg twice a day for this issue. I only take 25mg in the morning however, my cardiologist is aware and is fine with it. I have been contemplating pregnancy for a while now and wanted to try to wean myself off of the metoprolol so my cardiologist just said that the dose was so small I could just stop taking it. I also have very bad panic disorder.
Avatar n tn 5 hours later. Just a few days ago, my cardiologist decided to put me on metoprolol. I am not sure about this. Any thoughts?? Also, i enjow having a few alcoholic beverages regularly, What should i be concerned about when combining metoprolol and alcohol?
Avatar m tn Scheduled for a cardiac angiogram and not advised to stop taking metoprolol, crestor and one low dose aspirin ahead of procedure. Any different experience?
Avatar m tn Propranolol has a reportedly better shortening effect on Long Q than Metoprolol. Are you taking Metoprolol Tartrate? Metoprolol has a very short half life; typically 5 hours or so. In that time, half of it is metabolized. Physicians usually prescribe Metoprolol to be taken twice a day beca use of his. MetoprololSuccinate is the time release version, and that is taken once a day. In addition 25mg. is an exceedingly small dose.
Avatar m tn I can't stand the side effects and would like to get off it. How should I taper off? Or can I just quit since I'm on a low dose?
1423357 tn?1511089042 The half life of Metoprolol results in a residulal amount remaining when the next dose occurs. This repeats over and over for months .... years. I would think this could cause a gradual build-up of the drug to possible very high levels. We all know that Metoprolol lowers blood pressure. Could this be the reason for my low normal readings?
Avatar m tn Sorry you have this problem. 12.5 is indeed a pretty small dose, but Metoprolol is known to be a great drug to for controlling Tachy. You don't give a reason why you want to wean off of it when it was working? I'm guessing your aren't dependent on it so much as you need an intervention of some kind. Why not just take it? That said, another more invasive approach would be a Pacemaker, but to me the easy way to keep your heart healthy is to take the drug.
Avatar m tn Well, I will wait for a phone call from my Cardiologist and will hope he will change the Metoprolol to the Propranolol but in higher dose than before. The side-effects of the Metoprolol, even if i'm taking a very low dose, are not tolerable or acceptable.
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar f tn 5 year ago and had very short period (2 days) of AF post-surgery. I have been taking Metoprolol Succinate 47.5mg/day for 8 months as long term essential medication for HCM. My daily pulse is around 45-55 bpm and occasionally feel lightheadedness. I recently had one FAINT when I rested at a sofa. It lasted for about 5 seconds. My pulse was 50 immediately after recovery.
Avatar n tn About a month ago my doctors put me on Metoprolol Succinate 25mg 2x daily and sent me to a cardiologist who upped my metoprolol to 50 mg 2x daily. In the last 2 weeks since being on the 50 mg dose my feet have started to hurt and burn mostly from the balls of me feet to my toes but last few days the pain and burning has slowly creeped up into my lower calf muscles and ankles.
Avatar f tn It meant taking a dose every 20 hours and that got really difficult. I weaned myself from Metoprolol with my cardiologist OK and tried Atenolol. I had some strange episodes when I first started taking it, but discovered that if I took only 12.5mg daily, it worked better than Metoprolol and was longer lasting by far.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible! I had vertigo and dizziness for hours after just from laying flat for 10 minutes.
