Metoprolol usual dose

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol usual dose

Avatar m tn No wonder I felt like I could swim today. I will take a dose this evening at my usual time. And sleep in Sunday. I am feeling okay., sort of dizzy but will check my BP again around 4pm. If it is higher than 138 over 93 I will take my dose 4 hours earlier than my usual time.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible! I had vertigo and dizziness for hours after just from laying flat for 10 minutes.
Avatar m tn Well, I will wait for a phone call from my Cardiologist and will hope he will change the Metoprolol to the Propranolol but in higher dose than before. The side-effects of the Metoprolol, even if i'm taking a very low dose, are not tolerable or acceptable.
19887518 tn?1486052247 I am so drowsy, tired and weak since starting Metoprolol 3 weeks ago. I take 12.5 mg twice a day with food for my afib. I wake up refreshed. Several hours later some days I feel totally fine other days drowsy. But everyday around 2:30 or 3 pm I crash hard. Very tired. After a 60 minute nap I'm still a bit drowsy but better. Now it's 11 pm and like usual I feel much better but still weaker than before the med. Is there any chance I'll get used to the drug and quit being so tired?
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
612551 tn?1450025775 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar n tn People out there take double, triple or quadruple my current dose. btw - I love the metoprolol. It controls the adrenaline dumps and anxiety very effectively, imho. Any feedback is welcome.
Avatar f tn a half at least each time) Which is not normal for me. anyway over the last week I have been feeling much worse than usual I can feel it beating much more heavily than usual aafter meals I can feel it beating heavily & fast for about two hours in my stomach & neck which really frightens me. It's also been keeping me awake at night I have to have a glass of water to make it less noticeable before I try to sleep.
612551 tn?1450025775 I now wonder if trying (in fact I am testing) lower dose of beta blocker to see if there is some happy ground that gives both benefits, lower HR and no dizziness, and maybe better performance when engaged in physical activities... the details of which may be a subject for another community. I'm now starting on going to 25 mg once a day, first with Atenolol regular release, ant then maybe try Metoprolol at 25 mg slow release, I have both on hand. Question?
Avatar n tn Quick history, I visited my doctor who took my BP, because I was having palpitations. He then prescribed me with 50 mg of Metoprolol which did not have any obvious effect, then increased the dose to 100mg. This had adverse side effects, such as a pounding pulse in my head, which was extremely distressing. The dose was lowered to 50mg and he added lisinopril at 2.5 mg. This had more adverse side effects and multiplied the palpitations.
Avatar f tn Took my metoprolol half tablet at 10 pm last night as usual. It never did feel like it did anything. Maybe it was a bogus pill. I had tachycardia, palpitations, irregular hearbeat on and off all night. Kept waking up suddenly out of breath. By 4:30 am I was so exhausted I could barely lift my head. I felt like all the life was draining out of me. Ken took my pulse and said it was very fast and thready. Told me to take another dose of metoprolol. I did. One hour later I felt normal again.
Avatar m tn Had AFib starting at 6:20pm and after my usual dose of Metoprolol & 300mg of Flecainide, I converted back to NSR at 8:20pm. How weird is that? What's even weirder is that I was listening to my heart beat with a stethoscope right at the time of conversion so I actually heard my heart convert to NSR! Heart rate got up to 117 this time. BP was high but went to normal within a short time. Only 2 hrs! BUT the events are coming more and more frequently.
Avatar m tn Still I get dizziness twice/month while morning walk only with burps.I am on warfarin, metoprolol, dipyradmole plus statin and Omega-3. Is it usual to get dizziness or light head with all the care given?Does any other member experience these? The symptoms are for 2minutes and I continue walking again.
Avatar f tn took bp right after taking my metoprolol and it was 152/75, pulse 85 (normal rhythm). In about 20 minutes it was 122/63 and pulse was 57 (which if usual for me). I had one bout with AFib in May of 2014 so I make sure it is beating in sinus sync. I eat correctly and walk 30 minutes each day. Cholesterol and all lipids low....HDL at 73. I am not overweight. Glucose at 87. I am on a low dose of Levothyroxine (12.5 /day), statin, aspirin, metoprolol and HCTZ.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Hi Everyone, I haven't been posting for awhile, the Metoprolol has been doing pretty well for me. I still get my PVCs,PACs and SVT, but to a much lesser degree. Well today I went into SVT but it was different than usual. I got really crazy beats (not like the "normal" PVCs etc) for almost a full minute before jumping into PSVT. That lasted about 20 minutes before it resolved. I had a cardiac work up recently, which looked in same as usual. Anyone else have this happen?
Avatar f tn I haven't checked, but I don't recall seeing insomnia listed as a side effect of the usual selective beta blockers, such as Metoprolol. I have taken that med for several years and at a high dose part of that time. I have had some dream problems (may not be related to the BB) but no insomnia.
Avatar n tn My quality of life right now is in the toilet, so he prescribed metoprolol. I had 5 good days with only a couple PVC's (I can handle a couple now and then...not's the constant one that go on for all day that I can't handle). On the sixth day of taking the metoprolol I the PVC's started up again...big time. Seemed more intense than usual and last all day and into the night. This was a little over a week ago and haven't had a good day since.
Avatar f tn You are on the lowest dose of metoprolol like I am. Just ask your doc to bump you up a little. That should do the trick. I find mine seems less effective certain times of the month during hormonal fluctuations, or after too little sleep or other such triggers, but once I'm back on track so is the metoprolol.
Avatar f tn The problem is the cost. It's much higher than Metoprolol Tartrate which is literally pennies per dose. 100mg should have a significant impact with lowered BP as well as a slower pulse. I'm on 75mg and have been so for 10 years. It's a good med. If you run, exercise or workout, you will probably need a little longer to warm up as it does throttle back on the pulse and the heart seems a little slower to react to demands. But once up to speed you should be fine. Also...
10771583 tn?1412678989 First, I thought I was coming down with the flu, but I knew it wasn't the flu because I didn't have a fever, a sore throat or any of the usual flu-like symptoms. I've been taking 5 mg of methimazole for Graves' disease for the past couple of years. When I was first diagnosed in 1999, I was put on 10 mg of methimazole, a beta blocker (metoprolol) and sleep medication. After my late husband committed suicide in 2009, I also was put on an antidepressant. I remarried in 2013.
Avatar f tn I'm on the lowest dose of 80 mg and have been on sotalol for 8 days. My heart rate is steadier but in the low 50s. I feel very weak and a bit light headed as well as somewhat unsteady on my feet. I've talked to the nurse. She told me the doctor is gone for the next two weeks, but he sometimes checks his messages. She said the next step would be to switch to multaq, but that would require his authorization. He had ruled that out due to its usual lower success rate, I believe.
Avatar f tn I know many many take it with no problem, but I have a tendancy to feel my heart race more than usual during sex and at random times, which is why I take the beta blockers, but I'm not having a normal sex life. I know my doctor knows what's best. He even shared with me that he took Cialis and it helped him a lot. SHould I just try one? I thought about cutting a 5mg pill in half but it says on the bottle do not do that. I really want to have sex again. Will the cialis make the heart race?
Avatar n tn I've taken both Rythmol and Metoprolol, but at much higher dose levels. I'm now off of Rythmol as it didn't do anything to reduce AFib. I know Toprol does lower the HR, one of its prime purposes when subscribed, the other to lower blood pressure. Clearly, you didn't need anything to lower your HR. Still, at the low level dose you are on, I am surprised it has any noticeable affect on your HR.
Avatar f tn 50mg Flecainide bid is actually a lower than usual dose. Many are started on 75mg bid(2 x day) This medication will have no impact on your safety during exercise. One of the side effects of this is increased fatigue, and with the combonation of this + a betablocker (Metoprolol) you may notice an increased level of fatigue. This would most likely have an impact on your exercise regime.
Avatar n tn I am on just a low dose of metroprolol and the cardiologist said I could stop taking it...this is the second day without this med and my heart was racing with hardly any provocation...was just doing a little bit of painting..causing tingling in arms and pressure in chest....should I be weaning off of this drug or should I just be going cold turkey...
Avatar m tn No shortness of breath or other signs of MI. No pain after this. Well, went back on full dose atenolol at night. Since then, have some "palpitations" if that is what they are every now and then. Called cardiologist when this happened, and they had a note of me having some palpitations when they did some of their tests. They told me to keep working out and tell them if have any significant changes. Could I have damaged my heart when reducing atenolol?
612551 tn?1450025775 Thanks, that may be the reason my shift to Atenolol from Metoprolol seemed to require a lower dose. I haven't eaten grapefruit for a few days and it appears my side-effects from Atenolol have subsided. I will continue to take a slightly lower dose, now at 25 mg morning 12.5 mg night, then go back to the 25 mg morning and night. As discussed in another post by me on the BB subject I was experiencing very low HR when in bed, and some serious dizziness.
Avatar n tn As far as Metoprolol sticking to 50MG like usual a day, he wants me to take 100 MG (not sure if I will end up more sleepy or slowed down b/c of Metoprolol? How bad is Thyrotoxicosis, do I still have graves/hyperthyroid prbs? Will How bad is Thyrotoxicosis? go away and then come back later on, so worried? Not sure if I should eat certain foods not to interact with MMI and Metoprolol? How soon b4 meds correct Thyrotoxicosis? So badly want 2 stop beta blocker.
Avatar n tn It is one the older beta blocker with a good record, it is said it is often underused these days. The usual dose for palps from what I remember is usually 20-40mg twice daily. Sometimes they start you off on 20mg daily just to see how it works for ya. Hope it keeps working good luck!!
