Metoprolol xl dose

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol xl dose

toprol

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar f tn My problem is, my heart gets used to the medication and it needs a constant dose of it 24/7 or it goes nuts. With the GENERIC METOPROLOL BY SANDOZ, I wasn't getting the constant dose like I did with the brand name one. Something about the binding capacity. It wouldn't stay in my system for the 24 hours like the other one and the ingredients weren't the same. I was told to send a sample of the generic to an independent lab for testing. I just might do that.
Avatar f tn Wow, Just took my first dose about half hr ago. I feel like I'm drunk! Is this normal? Think I'm going to go get horizontal before I pass out on floor.
Avatar n tn Because my episodes began to increase in frequency some years ago, they tried me on several drugs (none of which I like or felt helped) and I eventually settled on 25mg per day of Toprol XL (time released Metoprolol), which is a pretty low dose and I have been taking that for over a decade. I'm not much of a drinker (just don't like the taste of it or the SVT that the alcohol sometimes brings on!
Avatar n tn 5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.) What is the likelihood that metoprolol can be helpful for the aforementioned symptoms, especially in such a low dose? c.) Is 12.5mg minor enough to be able to stop taking fairly easily? Could taking it actually make my conditions worse? Thanks for any considerations and responses.
Avatar f tn HI I have been on toprol xl 50 mg once a day for the past 12 years, the past few months I have been having strange symptoms of lightheaded, cold hands/feet,anxiety, tired..
Avatar m tn I did ask the Pharmacist about having the Metoprolol 50 mg XL but in the Canada they don't do 25 or 50 XL dose... the XL dose are 100 mg and 200 mg only... Well thanks for your answer ;-) Take care of you!!!
Avatar m tn I know that I also memtioned that metoprolol tartrate (not Toprol XL) is not intended as a once a day pill because of its short half life. You end up with a roller coaster of drug levels.
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
443862 tn?1238003039 I used to take Mestinon and it works a LOT better for fast heart rate than metoprolol. But when the dose starts to wear off you need ativan to carry you into the next dose or your body will become dependant and crash before you take the next dose of Mestinon. And its not Metoprolol that helps anxiety. It's actually Propranolol that treats stage fright and performance anxiety, which is a b2, not a b1 blocker. Just some thoughts.
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone ever heard of heavy feeling tired legs as a side effect of Metoprolol ? I'm on a relatively low dose of 25 mg BID if the tartrate.
19887518 tn?1486052247 I am so drowsy, tired and weak since starting Metoprolol 3 weeks ago. I take 12.5 mg twice a day with food for my afib. I wake up refreshed. Several hours later some days I feel totally fine other days drowsy. But everyday around 2:30 or 3 pm I crash hard. Very tired. After a 60 minute nap I'm still a bit drowsy but better. Now it's 11 pm and like usual I feel much better but still weaker than before the med. Is there any chance I'll get used to the drug and quit being so tired?
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar m tn You're taking the time release version of Metoprolol, so the results of a dose are drawn out more so the the standard Metoprolol.
Avatar f tn There is no Metoprolol withdrawal symptoms. There can be a rebound effect, but it depends a lot on what you were taking it for on whether the rebound wouldbe important in your case. As was said, 12.5mg is teeny tiny. At the end of the day, there is a minute amount remaining in your body. I stopped my 100mg dose 2 weeks before my electrophysiology procedure. My physician instructed me to just stop. I was fine. There was some "jumpiness", but it was completely tolerable.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding! I’m taking the Metoprolol succ er. Not sure what the difference is from the Tartrate. I am only taking it once a day. My bp read that low yesterday around 6 pm when I had taken it at 7am. I’m not sure if it helps too much with slowing down my heart because it still gets up over 100 and higher easily just walking around my house.
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL 45 mg for 3 years and then on the generic Metoprolol Succinate for another 2. The cardiologist told me to stop it, I had shortness of breath and terrible night sweats. I cut them in half and did that for 10 days, then I took those half pills every other day for 10 more days and then I stopped. No ill effects.
Avatar f tn Hello to everyone. My questions are concerning the drug toprol xl. I've been on this medication for about 6months now, and have over these past few months I've developed symptoms that initially led me to believe I had ovarian problems. that was found not to be the case, had ct scan and pelvic ultrasound. everything is normal , except for a umbilical hernia and degenerative arthrits, with some spurring of the spine. I had already been diagnosed with the arthritis.
Avatar m tn Toprol XL is the the timed release version of Metoprolol. If you're on 25mg, that is a teeny-tiny dose, I was on 100mg, at one time, and others have been on dosages as high as 400mg. Stopping it should not be a problem. For my ablation I had to stop my dose for the procedure. My electrophysiologist told me as well to just stop it cold. Because I find it hard to follow instructions (what do they know) ;-) I decided to dial it back slowly instead. Same results, except I did it my way.
876405 tn?1243511886 Here's the question- I am wondering if these PVC's and PAC's that I have been experiencing in the past 2 months have to do with suddenly stopping the metoprolol that I was on for my high blood pressure. I don't recall ever getting them before and now they occurring constantly..I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy.
Avatar n tn He began with metoprolol 2x per day and was switched to toprol xl 25 mg per day. The last post talked about nightmares with toprol. Does metoprolol or toprol bring about panic attacks? I believe my husband is having panic attacks and will not accept it. Is the medication causing this. for one year after his heart attack, he was doing great and then out of the clear, he began getting dizzy, lightheaded, nauseaus, jittery, weak and fatigued.
Avatar n tn Hi! My cardiologist has just prescribed Metoprolol, very low dose, to try to help me with my PVC's and various other arrythmias. I was just wondering if anyone else has taken it for this, and has it helped? I allready have a low resting heart rate (56) and very low blood pressure (89/55 at times). I am not too keen on my blood pressure or pulse going too much lower. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Anyone having any experience with this drug, good or bad, I'd love to hear it.
Avatar n tn Does it matter whether you take Toprol XL in the a.m. or the p.m? My doctor says no, however, another person I know says their doctor said DEFINITELY in the a.m. Also having issues with generic Toprol XL - racing pulse, irregular heartbeats - only started since switching. Thought it was my imagination until reading these forums.
Avatar m tn Unless you're taking the time release version of Metoprolol Succinate, ie. Toprol XL, you are not taking it correctly. Metoprolol has a relatively short half life of 3 to 7 hours. In other words, when you take it, its medicinal benefit begins to lessen rather quickly. By taking it only once a day, you get a spike followed by a rapid lessening of its effect. People taking Metoprolol Tartrate usually take if twice a day to maintain a relatively stable level of the drug in their system.
Avatar m tn I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
Avatar n tn Your experience of high heartrate after stopping Toprol XL are not unusual. I tried kicking my 50 mg (25 mg 2x) Metoprolol (long story) and had a 2+ week period of similar high heartrate. You need to come off of it SLOWLY. Work with your cardiologist on how to to this most effectively.
Avatar f tn I had cardioversion, but still have a-fib and my heart rate is too high again (I'm on an event monitor which reported to my doctor that my heart rate was 150 last night while I slept through it). He has put me on 100mg metoprolol - I'll be taking the 2nd dose (50mg) in a few minutes. He wanted me on the brand name Toprol XL, but the pharmacies are having a hard time stocking it right now so I'm on the regular (not extended release) version, taking it in the a.m. and again in the p.m.
