I also think your B/F is taking a lot more methadone to be so cationic from it I had similar symptoms when I was taking 150mg....tapering off methadone is tuff to do as addicts we are always looking for a pill to fix what is wrong this is not a solution please take the warning as serious he is not having normal reactions to the combination...
I recently just lost a good friend to an accidental overdose of methadone/xanax/klonopin, this person had been taking methadone for many years due to a major car accident. Just want to remind those out there that are mixing opiates and benzo's just how fine that line is between your high or dying. My buddy had just had twin boys 8 days before his OD, I feel so bad for his girlfriend and family.
i couldnt exactly tell if it was methadone youare on for pain or other painkillers, but assuming its methadone you are on for pain its definitely going to be hard to get off of, it is a very effective pain killer and long alsting, and prduces less of a rush or euphoria than heroin and toehr strong opiates, but it is very addicting and can be lethal.- i am on it for a bad addiction to heroin and oxycontin(snorted) and its a great treatment option for me, but its def. addicting too.
I will tell you that mixing methadone with other drugs you are abusing,especially benzos [the xanax] can be a fatal mixture and THAT could kill him.It's really not possible for us to tell you what his dose should be.If we knew what type of drugs and how much he was taking PRIOR to the methadone we may be able to give you an educated guess.The fact is though the dosage amount of the methadone is not really the issue here.
OK just as i thought, the toxicology showed that it was not a suicide, but rather a deadly mix of xanax and methadone (both in small doses) that took my brother's life. He had been so optimistic in his letters to his girlfriend the last 6 months, that the thought that he took his own life never made sense. Now we know for sure that he didn't. The Doc said that the drug n alcohol abuse weakened him, and that the small doses on the final night were enough to slow his respiration.
ve taken 60 mg before except I did not take the methadone at the same time.But, only 60 mg did the trick, with methadone in my system, but not taken at the same time.
How close am I to overdosing? What IS the deadly combo? I just know this: 70 mg of methadone is great for my feet. But my shoulder? Doesn't touch that pain. It's acute. Now what?
It is very possible to overdose on Xanax. You say it was "presumed" she OD'd on her surplus Xanax. Was an autopsy done? I certainly don't want to come across as a "champion for Xanax," but I think you need more information before you lay this sad and very tragic death at the feet of Xanax.

As everyone else has asked - How's she doing? There's an anti-dote to opiate overdose, including Methadone called Naltrexone. I hope they're keeping her in the hospital because Methadone overdose is tricky because of it's long half-life. They can bring you back in the ER - you walk out and you can go under again. So, if they have the tox. #'s - that's good - they can gauge where's she's at.
For this reason people who overdose on methadone often actually do so as much as a day or two after they took it."

i'm sorry you lost your brother -- the disease of addiction takes far too many. sadly, most of the deaths could be avoided if we addicts had the capacity to realize just how much trouble we were in and how badly we needed help. for most of us, by the time we think our feet MIGHT be getting wet, we're already in over out heads.
I was on it for over 8 months and it kept me clean from a nasty habit with snorting heroin and oxycontin for over two years, along wtih benzos(xanax, valium,klonopin) and sleeping pils(ambien, lunesta). I had a huge tolerance for opiate and once I was in bad withdrawals about two days they amde me wait, I was given my first dose of suboxone, They started at 4 mgs and it took away my withdrawals isntantly and gave me a warm buzz that lasted a really long time.
please be aware that many people have taken benzo's the same way as heath ledger, corey haims, etc, and have lived to say its no big deal. its true that 1mg of xanax may not seem high, although xanax is highly potent so it really is actually a hefty dose...but the reason it doesn't seem high is because daily theraputic limits are at 10mg of xanax. it's VERY difficult to overdose on any benzo. this leads to the assumption that they are "safe"...
Our son, who died of a methadone overdose six months ago, stayed clean (of methadone) for six weeks in rehab, on suboxone, but went out again immediately after he left. Methadone stays in the system much longer than heroin, so withdrawals last much longer. If you ever want to get off the mainentance program, you have to deal with this eventually.
Warning - if you are in a program where you go get your methadone each day etc, you better tell them. My husband was on xanax and they thru a fit at the clinic snd ended up discharging him from the program. Guess it is part of the gov't regulations. No benzos. He gave them hus prescription list at intact then they random tested him and kucked him off.
So run it by them first.
I've struggled with methadone and xanax addiction for about 4 years. Most of this has been illegal use, but I am now attending my third methadone clinic. I don't have a prescription for the xanax, so I have to get off it. The clinic reduces my methadone dose 5mgs every 2 weeks if I keep testing dirty for benzos. I was taking 2 bars a day but have tapered down to half a bar the past few days, which is 1 mg.
s a pretty happy person and never talks about suicide anymore. what treatment are you getting, are you taking anything other than xanax? think about the xanax not working and you being in a coma or disabled in some way. your feeling suicidal, call someone, check yourself into a hospital, just don't try anything drastic. things can get better, i'm sure of it.
I currently take 3mg of Xanax XR a day.
