Avatar f tn Why are you on metformin? Do you have pcos? I was on metformin too and don't remember having any side effects. I guess once it adjusts to your body you might feel better. Also, there are good chances of getting pregnant while taking clomid with metformin.
342133 tn?1227108677 I have PCOS too and I am on metformin. It didn't work for me though. I ovulated only with injectibles. But my friend(very lucky) she got pregnant on metformin and her dd is 13 months old.
Avatar f tn I've had no side effects. Once in a while i'll have loose stool if i eat too many carbs. How is your dr. having you take it?
1187113 tn?1320691496 Metformin should be increased SLOWLY because of everything you just described. When I was on it I would slowly increase my dosage. Started off at like 250 mg, then 500 mg, then 750 mg, etc., etc. up until I was at like 2000 mg. Metformin causes diarrhea and intestinal upset. Take it before bed to reduce the symptoms during the day. I would maybe take HALF (750 mg) and slowly increase as your body gets used to that amount. I know what you mean about the Metformin!
604185 tn?1233960857 I have PCOS and doctor put me on metformin and I am on it(1500mg per day) past couple of months. I just started the IVF cycle(started pills) and doctor asked me to continue with metformin until I get a positive pregnancy. Is anyone on the same protocol as mine?
1187113 tn?1320691496 do you take the extended release? if not that may help with your symptoms. I do have the same symptoms as you but I also have gastroparesis (my stomach doesn't contract properly). I take 1500mg of the extended release and the only other problems I have had was occasional diarrhea. If your already on extended release my only suggestion would be to eat smaller meals more often and don't eat past 6pm. Pizza is my arch enemy!
Avatar f tn Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan). I don't have diabetes and I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, and I think Metformin is generally used for these two issues. So I'm concened whether I should really be Metformin. Can it mess up my insulin system?
245020 tn?1209657943 I am on it for PCOS. Yep, she did say it could probably cause stomach upset but I felt awful! Did metformin help you to become pregnant before? My hubby's cousin said she took it for 4 years before becoming pregnant!!! Her cycles are very widespread though. Mine are about every 2 months or so. Good luck the end of the week!!!!
475740 tn?1208262865 I started metformin about 3 weeks ago. My side effects diminished within about a week and a half. I took a dose with food at breakfast and another dose at dinner. I just kept telling myself that in the drug statement paperwork it said "your doctor has prescribed this medication because he/she has weighed the benifits greater than the risks or side effects". I take it for diabetes and PCOS.
Avatar f tn I'am 26 years old. ttc for 3 years. I have endo and pcos. With pcos I have every symptoms but the cyst. Husband has low sperm count. Have done several cycles clomid iui without success. Attempted 2 ivf cycles but they were cancelled due to low response. I only had 5 follicles both times and they were converted to iui. I started on metformin 500mg daily and will increase the dose to 1500 mg over four weeks. The dr. is hoping this will increase the egg numbers and quality.
Avatar f tn t have any serious side effects with metformin and besides I know it is essential to prevent or at least delay diabetes. What happens is that, in time, the pancreas becomes drained so to say, because we produce more insulin that it would actually be needed. At one point there won't be enough left and the cells will block all their receptors to insulin -- therefore the glucose will remain in our blood and this is how diabetes happens.
1500387 tn?1460740020 hi i have just been told i have pcos and have started metformin does any1 else no of any side effects that you could get for it and it does it help bein tryin to conceive for ova 3yrs now and still nothing please help :)
623922 tn?1223406991 I'm 29 and have been diagnosed with mild endo and pcos. I ovulate regularly and my DH is good to go. We've been ttc for a few years with no success. My doc feels that even though I'm ovulating, it's not a "good quality" ovulation so she is about to start me on a combo of metformin and clomid to increase my chances. Has anyone had any luck with this combo? I'm looking for inspiration....thanks!
Avatar f tn i dont ovulate and i havve pcos i been on metformin femara and provera for a month now..i havent ovulated this month so we are going to do provera to started my cycle again.. i have tried clomid 50mg-150 for six cycles and didnt ovulated at all..my questions is should i take femara again this month or moved on to injections? how long did it take for these drugs to work for you?
Avatar f tn I had success with both Metformin and birth control. Metformin is working so far alone. I've been on Metformin for now 1 year and birth control for 2 years. I stopped my birth control in August and had a normal period 8/30-8/31. I am looking forward to starting my next cycle this weekend. It's nice to see so far my cycles have normaled out.
467721 tn?1208469005 d encourage you to continue to follow up with your doc. If a woman with PCOS is not able to ovulate with weight loss and Metformin in order to conceive, Clomid (with or without Metformin) can be used to induce ovulation. Again, I'd encourage you to follow up with your doctor regarding these matters. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn Metformin only has bad side affects if you: don't start with a small dose first, and then work your way up to the higher dose OR if you don't watch the fat content in your foods. I've been on it 2 years and never had bad side affects.
Avatar n tn t think it will have any side effects, I have been taking Metformin for a year now and I am currently 12 weeks pregnant THANKS to Metformin, injections and IUI...so I seriously doubt it gives any side effects!
393893 tn?1283551230 Mayve you could switch to Endometrian? I was on it 3 times a day (suppositories) and had little to no side effects. I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. Are you pregnant?
706214 tn?1244523049 because weigth gain makes the hormonal imbalance worse. although i hate medicines and their side effects metformin may help with weight loss aswell .
Avatar n tn The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea. But one thing I don't understand is that since I have been on Metformin for so long, it does keep sort of regulate my period every month. But my testosterone and triglycerides are still high. Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and have been on Metformin since I was 17 for treatment of PCOS. The side effects when you first take the medication isn't to pleasant. At least wasn't for me. I was sick a lot with diarrhea and nausea. But this will go away after about two weeks on the medication. I too got told to loose a few pounds and I would probably get pregnant rather easily. I weighed almost 400 pounds at the start of seeing this doctor. I now weight 328.8 with her encouragement and dieting.
393893 tn?1283551230 It named off many side effects that were normal and were not normal. I had both. I put in a call to my re yesterday but haven't heard back yet and I'm a little scared. If anyone can tell me exactly what they experienced I would be so grateful-thank you!
