Insomnia is one of many side effects of metformin. I would talk to your doctor and let them know that you're having trouble sleeping and maybe they can switch your meds or give you a sleep aid. Hi, for me I had bad diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, migraines and loss of appetite but the good news is it only lasted a few days and now 9 months later I have no side effects. If you are worried about the side effects ask for the extended release it is gentile on your stomach. Make sure you take it at night with dinner (if not at night with your biggest meal). I had some insomnia when i took it in the AM but when I switched to night time it went away.

Why are you on metformin? Do you have pcos? I was on metformin too and don't remember having any side effects. I guess once it adjusts to your body you might feel better. Also, there are good chances of getting pregnant while taking clomid with metformin.

i have been lucky with metformin, no side effects. However, some folks have experienced feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak; A call to your doctor may be prudent. Perhaps the dose is too high Nonetheless a call will put your mind at ease.

My doctor wants me to try a new drug called onglyza,,,brand new,,had my druggist print out some info for me, and he was most helpful,more than my doctor! though does cause some side effects,,,there is little stomach distress,,I don't know, its so hard ...I am thinking of trying a more holistic approach?? anyway, this new drug,,,235.00 a month!!!!!! I am apalled...there should be a law!

t had a period since July of last year but only started to take the metformin in September and then stopped because of the side effects, and then started back in December, after switching from a regular gyn to a PCOS Specialist/RE and then I was basically told that this is what I have to do to start the TTC process and then we would move on from there.

Hm, so you are diagnosed as PCOS or they just started the metformin for the reason of the adrenal gland issue? I'm trying to understand. LOL I know things that affect any part of our hormonal system will result in some mood changes. Are you taking the metformin as they intended? Have they also considered clomid? You've been working with a fertility doctor--- and done all the testing and this is the only issue they see with regards to getting pregnant?

Losartan is not known to have many side effects. I've been taking it for a few months with no problems. Have you had any other medication changes? Do you take any statins for cholesterol issues?

All of your advice is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I took it upon myself to stop taking Metformin. My side effects were increasingly getting worse, I even started losing hair. I decided to listen to my body. We have a meeting with our re on June 2nd. Maybe they can put me on something else. I was still only taking one pill I can't imagine what my body would have done if I had worked up to taking 4 a day. It was very scary. Again, thanks for all the input!!!

I have been on Sovaldi, Olysio and Riboviron for 4 weeks. I am finding that I feel very poorly with a laundry list of noxious symptoms. I feel very alone since my docs said that the side effect profile would be very tolerable. Many years ago I was on interferon and riboviron but could not tolerate the tx. I don't know if it is the roboviron that is causing the side effects. At this point I am pretty much bed-ridden. Is there anyone out there with a similar experience?

I heard that if Metformin causes side effects that I should get extended release Metformin and I should not have any of the side effects; stomach problems etc.... Has anyone else heard this?

Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
