520691 tn?1213961844 I was diagnosed just a month ago. There is a book called "Androgen disorders in Women." It was written by Theresa Cheung. Its all about PCOS and the different treatment options. It also explains your symptoms and helps you understand what is going on. I highly recommend it. I have heard that metformin really helps. But it is not standard of care or approved by the FDA yet. Although there are many doctors who are using it and it is effective.
282955 tn?1394730951 t think that Metformin should interact with OPK results at all. Metformin is given to people with PCOS and what it does is reduce the insulin level and help ovaries to make LESS follicles...I believe that is all. I know that when I was JUST on Metformin, I didn't Ovulate at all. Only when RE added Clomid 150 for me I developed a mature follicle.. Hope this helps, Anya.
Avatar n tn If a person is taking the lowest dose of Metformin, has changed their diet and a1c results are at 5.0, how do they know if the results are due to the drug or change in diet? Can they stop talking Metformin and continue controlling their blood sugar with diet alone?
Avatar f tn Yes I have PCOS, i did treatment with metformin, but my sugar is very low, with metformin treatment I had fainting, thanks darling for you response.
Avatar m tn my blood sugar the last 3 days have been in the 160 range. I am on 1000mg of metformin daily, watch my diet, and exercise up to 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs daily. My test usually run about 103-115. I have checked my blood for the last 3 days after exercise, and at least 3 hrs after eating, each time they are over 160. Nothing has changed in my daily routine. everything is done at certain times daily.Hope you can help.

Avatar n tn When I went to my woman wellness exam I told my doctor that my husband and I were having a hard time conceiving and that I have always been irregular with my menstral. She put me on Metformin and my question's are What effect will this have on me and my body as I am not diabetic and if I take this and get pregnant what effects may this drug have on the baby?
Avatar f tn Recently my dose of metformin was increased to 2-500s night and morning. I developed h pylori and direarra. They treated the h pilori, howeverstill have direarra. I have noticed the metformin pills passing through completely whole. I have taken them apart, they still have powder in them. Also since the h pylori and increased metformin my blood sugar testing has gone to as high as 459. Went to dr and he put me on insulin. This has gradually brought blood sugars down to 114 and 250.

Avatar n tn 5 months and when diagonised found to be suffering from polysycts. Now the doctor has adviced me to take Metformin as I am planning to concieve as well. Please let me know if I can take it now even without having periods?
Avatar n tn I have always, as far as I can remember, had high sugar level results when having my blood tested for annual check-ups. However nothing was ever done about recommendations or advice from the various doctors over the years. Recently after a yearly physical a doctor started me on metformin which made me physically very drained, not tired or weak, but very loose, if that is the right word, and sort of wiped out in a physical sense. The prescription dose was 500 mg.
Avatar n tn What I think you should ask your doctor for is a recommendation to a nutrionist if weight loss is your main goal and reason for taking metformin. Also find out why you were prescribed metformin (ie was it to control your menstrual cyle, maintain or help with the PCOS, help you acheive a pregnancy in the long run, or for another health reason like diabetes, etc).
Avatar f tn hi, im concerned about my results with my hsg test. are my chances still high to conceive if my results were clear of blockage from my tubes??? i was also wondering if talking clomid & metformin er will help with the process??? and how should i take metformin??? should i start clomid and metformin together or finish clomid and then start metformin??? is there a particular way to take the combo medication??? i really need to get this clear. im so confused! your help will mean the world to me.
Avatar n tn i have been on metformin for a year at 1500mg per day and still nothing. My biggest fear is maybe I should just give up on my dream of having a big family and just go with what i have now. How bad is your PCOS. maybe my doctor misdiagnosed me or something. Although i have been to 10 doctors and they all same thing but maybe there is something else wrong.
623922 tn?1223406991 I'm 29 and have been diagnosed with mild endo and pcos. I ovulate regularly and my DH is good to go. We've been ttc for a few years with no success. My doc feels that even though I'm ovulating, it's not a "good quality" ovulation so she is about to start me on a combo of metformin and clomid to increase my chances. Has anyone had any luck with this combo? I'm looking for inspiration....thanks!
Avatar n tn I'm sorry I don't know how the metformin and birth control do together but I also have PCOS and am on metformin. I haven't been on the metformin too long yet but I definitely think it helps. I have found that with PCOS though the only way I have been able to lose any weight is in cutting carbs. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
282955 tn?1394730951 hello ladies ;) I will have my first round of clomid and metformin soon ;).....weeee!!!!!! I am very excited anyway, Is it true that taking clomid affects ovulation predictor's results? any advice out there? Thanks alot...
Avatar n tn I took my metformin thru my 1st pregnancy (all 39 weeks). The concern with the metformin is if they have to put you under for a csection. I did insulin (humulin for long acting and Humalog with meals) as well. I think they prefer the insulin tho.
Avatar n tn So I was diagnosed with Type 2 in August of last year. I have a few concerns with my diagnosis. First, the whole reason my doc did a full blood exam was bc of my extreme anemia which at the time was pretty bad; my hemoglobin was terrible. Based off those results he said my blood sugar was high and scheduled an A1C a week later. Based off the A1C he diagnosed me type 2. Since being diagnosed, I've been on Metformin BID.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Metformin 500 mg once a day every morning. My blood glucose level has been stablized and between safe range, 70 to 85 for fasting test and 80 to 120 at 2 hours after meal. I believe the improvement in blood sugar is because of exercise and diet rather than medication. My question is: should I stop taking Metformin 500 mg? I've heard that this is a very low dose and does not affect much on controling blood sugar. Thanks a lot in advance for your advice and suggestions.
Avatar f tn testosterone levels all are within range, but my TSI and TPO are high. TSI is 161, TPO is 77. I am on Levothyroxine 50 mg/1x day and Metformin 500 mg/2x day. So far the Levothyroxine is not mixing well with my system as it is causing extreme fatigue and crankiness. On the otherhand, the metformin is working wonders. It is helping with my weight loss and eating less. So my question is.. what would cause the conflicting results of the TSI and TPO? Is it Graves Disease or Hashimotos? or both???
