well we have been trying to get preggers again so i went to go see my obgyn and he gives me these pills called metformin 850 mg tablets,,he tells me i will get pregnant within the next 3 months,,i have not takin them because i have been doing research and im reading things like dont take if your pregnant or plan to become pregnant,.and these pills are usually giving to ppl with diabetes or with pcos,,which i have none of those,.

When I was on it I would slowly increase my dosage. Started off at like 250 mg, then 500 mg, then 750 mg, etc., etc. up until I was at like 2000 mg. Metformin causes diarrhea and intestinal upset. what Amanda said is right- i was suffering for PCOS, and was on Metformin 500 Mg- the doctor gives the prescribed doses as per the body type- usually they give 1000-1500 Mg (2-3 tabs) a day to see , but for me 500 Mg worked well to have regular periods and Ovulation. the time i got pregnant, my doctor took me off from Metformin and i am only taking prenatal..

As waverider stated, there may need to be adjustments in the doseage of the Metformin. There are pill-splitters available to cleaning divide the 500 mg metformin into two equal 250 mg doseages. Whoever "told you" that you cannot reduce your blood suger to levels affecting functioning with Metformin is misinformed. That being said Metformin is an excellent medication, well-tolerated by most patients.

been on metformin 500 mg 2x a day...over last 2 wks suagrs have been in upper 200...so my Dr. increased my metformin to 850 mg 2x a day... i just took i pill today but my numbers sre still over 200 ..Is there an adjustment of how many days till new mg. starts to work...

I think my doc wants to see if 100mg of clomid works or not, she didn't monitor me that much, she only asked me to have my progesterone check on day 21 and make an appointment again on day 2 of my period (if I happen to have my period again) Its really disappointing. Do you think 100mg of clomid and metformin (500mgX3/day) works on me?

I have been on Metformin 1000 mg twice a day for about 3 years because of diabetes and PCOS. I also started taking clomid 50 mg 4 months ago. Unfortunately the combo has not yet worked for us. On a side note, after 8 years I switched from 500 mg of Metformin to 2.5 mg of Glipzide 1xdaily. My fasting levels not only stabilized but came down to what I expected, <120 mg/dl. This morning it was 109 mg/dl. My doc has seen this with other patients too.
