Avatar f tn I have been taking medication over the years for bipolar disorder and I have recently been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I have taken thyroid tests and all of them have been normal with a heightened testosterone level. What is the link between testosterone, metabolism, and insulin? Does metrofomin have a lot to do with weight loss and metabolism and thyroid issues?
Avatar n tn s disease last October. My question is regarding metabolic syndrome, this is what my endo diagnosed me with on Thursday. I have been a mess for a year, blameing everything on thyroid and it wasn't until I saw my endo, that maybe i'm looking at something entirely different. I have excessive weight gain and am very overweight, I have elevated blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Anyone out have metabolic syndrome? I am 46 yrs old have type 2 diabetes, hardening of the arteries,CAD, ect.. Would like to lower my LDL and raise my HDL, any tips?
Avatar f tn Metformin is a drug to treat insulin resistance which can lead to diabetes. That, along with the "enlarged ovary" makes it sound like you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome." A strand of pearls pattern of cysts on the ovaries is one of the classic symptoms of this metabolic disorder. If you are overweight, I've read that losing some weight can normalize the menstrual cycle as well as restore insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn I assume you mean you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (also known as syndrome X or metabolic X syndrome by many) - if so why not go see a dietitian who deals with diabetes (just because they deal with diabetes does't mean they can't help develop a plan that will for you, even if your not diabetic) and have them help develop a plan that will work with you?
Avatar f tn I have the same thing due to PCOS which caused Metabolic Syndrome. I tried Metformin but was allergic so now they have me on Glipizide. So far my numbers have been in 100-125 after taking meds. It can drop you down low if you don't eat enough carbs in your meal so you have to be very strict on your routine when taking this med. I eat lean with a healthy balance of lean meats, carbs(fruits and healthy carbs) and tons of veggies. I also do water aerobics and just added strength training.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I'm new to the forum. I'm 25 years old. Was diagnosed with PCOS, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension recently. My gyno prescribed me Provera to get me to have a period since I haven't had one since May 09. I can't take birth control because it caused me to have high blood pressure. I'm supposed to start Metformin after the Provera but my doc warned me about having severe nausea as a side effect.
Avatar n tn I have been on Metformin for two years for metabolic syndrome. My hair is nearly gone. Before I saw a hair transplant specialist, I went back to my doctor. He took me off of Metformin. YES! It definitely can cause hair loss. He says there are other drugs to consider. Don't give up! I am on minoxidil twice daily and prenatal vitamins. No drugs for blood sugar now.
Avatar n tn s ranging at the highest of 92,000. He has had compartment syndrome twice both with the Rhabdo. He has slowly gotten weaker. He has had a muscle biopsy that was negative. Avatar n tn When I was originally placed on Metformin for PCOS and metabolic syndrome 3 yrs ago my blood sugar level was 110 with at least half of my diet consisting of chocolate and soda. So it is very frustrating that I am working so hard on this diet and still having high sugar levels. Last week I was craving chocolate so bad....so I had a hershey bar and a REAl coke...it tasted great but 3 hours later my blood sugar was around 250. I have a dr appt next week but am curios as to what they will say.
1129774 tn?1279831762 My Endocrinologist diagnosed me with insulin resistance (also called metabolic syndrome). It is a condition that effects how your body uses your insulin you produce. You body makes enough insulin but your insulin receptors don't work so, you can't properly break down glucose. It effects many systems in your body, thyroid being one of them. Here is a web site you can check out. It explains insulin resistance (metabolic syndrome) and all the problems it can cause.www.naturalchoicesforyou.
Avatar f tn For example, according to one study, which looked at 39 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin in the blood), treatment with Metformin for women with PCOS resulted in a decline of insulin as well as total and free testosterone, leading to significant improvement of clinical manifestations of Hyperandrogenism (the excessive production of androgens in women) and an improvement in menstrual cycles (3).
Avatar f tn theres really nothing you can do but take metformin it will slow down the hair growth and youll loose weight.i have pcos too but my periods are long and heavy. when you were pregnant on the clomid did you spot if so how long?
Avatar f tn Most likely, your caloric intake is MUCH too low! Are you familiar with BMR (basal metabolic rate) and RMR (resting metabolic rate)? If not, here is a brief explanation... Your BMR is the amount of calories you would need if you did nothing but lay in bed all day with no activity (the amount your body needs to do all of its daily functions like digestion, respiration, etc).
Avatar f tn The men were as likely as the women to become depressed with marital strain, but the link between negativity, depression and metabolic syndrome only applied to women, she said. The depression in women accounted for the metabolic syndrome, she said. Exactly why isn't known, but Henry speculated that women may take the negativity more to heart and ruminate about it more than men. Henry can't say specifically how much risk of metabolic syndrome is attributed to the negativity.

Lose weight through proper diet choices, portion control and getting 30 minutes of physical activity daily (if your doctor approves you to do this). Also, try to manage your stress. We're here to help in any way we can.
Avatar f tn - your doc can put you on metformin. This helps regulate some of your hormones. It is also used for diabetics but you do not have to be a diabetic for this to work. This is what my doc currently has me on. - your doc can put you on clomid which will help you obviate. - your doc can put you on both metformin and Clomid. Before your doc does either med he or she will run some blood work tests and do an ultrasound. Good luck! !
