777396 tn?1329791151 She is having me do some tests, but says that I more than likely have PCOS. She wants me to take Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to get my periods regulated. I first wanted to know about side effects. Second I was reading that this particular drug is not recommended as it could cause some sort of pregnancy issue. Wasn't sure about if that was fact or myth. Any input is appreciated.

1557930 tn?1294636149 At the end of the treatment regular periods should return. I will be taking Provera 10mg for 7 days - for the 3rd month. I am TTC so I wait until after my TWW and make sure I am not Pregnant before I start again. This make my cycle longer, but its either this or no period and that's just not that safe. I also have PCOS and this is the reason I do not get my periods.
Avatar n tn I took 10mg Provera for 10 days starting on 8/20 to enduce my period. Doctor took pregnancy test prior to starting medication, and it came up negative. Last week, I had a positive pregnancy test, and today (9/19) found out I'm 6 wks along. I know there is a chance of birth defects... Do I need to worry since I only took the pill for 10 days??

Avatar n tn 4-28.0 My doctor told me to take 10mg of Provera with Ortho Cept. I am to start on any days 5-8 of my birth control and take it for 10 days and finish out the rest of my birth control pack. I had my thyroid w/free uptake, cortisol, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone checked. I eat 1200-1500 cal a day and do between 5-8miles a day. Progesterone is the only thing out of balance. Doesn't it seem like alot to take the Provera and the birth control together??
Avatar n tn I had a miscarriage in Sept05 and my periods have progressivly got longer and heavier. Ive been prescribed medroxyprogesterone acetate (provera) to regulate my periods,on days 15 to 25 of my cycle. 237300 tn?1231458318 Here is info from Medicinenet that includes side effects: She may be hesitant because its just been 6 weeks, may want to wait a bit to see if your period comes naturally. I waited just over 7 weeks post D&C to start the Provera. Dose can be 10mg provera for 5-10 days (I took mine for 10).
Avatar f tn im not sure what you are asking specifically? im assuming you mean 10mg of provera, and the Dr wouldnt give it to you if you were pregnant? its taken if your periods are irregular or have stopped completely and your doctor can find no obvious cause, it may be that something has upset your natural hormone levels. Medroxyprogesterone(provera) can help to restore your natural hormone levels, because it mimics the effects of your natural progesterone. causing your body to get your period...
Avatar f tn I went to see my gynocologist monday because I had spotting and bleeding since July 28th and ended up in urgent care that previous friday. My gyn Dr. wanted to put me on medroxyprogesterone acetate 10mg but while I was in the office they gave me a vaginal biopsy and was scheduled for a ultrasound so I wanted to get my results before I start my hormone medicine.Doctor called me the next day and said I have a non-cancerous firbroid and polyp from the biopsy results.
Avatar f tn On top of this, I'm on a birth control pill call Provera (10mg). PROVERA IS NOT A BIRTH CONTROL Provera is used to treat abnormal menstruation (periods) or irregular vaginal bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life).
Avatar f tn ok so i had a DNC done 7 weeks ago. the baby was dead and i hadn't had a miscarriage yet so they had to go in and take it out. well its been 7 weeks like i said and on the 19 of last month i went in to the ER because i was bleeding quite a bit and they put me on 10mg of Medroxyprogesterone or a more common name, provera.

1855970 tn?1325827213 back in january, my doctor started me on medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to induce my period each month because I had gone 6 years without a period. I take the 10mg pill on days 16-25 each month and my period begins 3-5 days after the last pill. It has been working just fine from Jan-July. My period usually will last 3-7 days. Last month (august) my period was very light and lasted about 4 days. This month, my period started very early (I had 3 of the pills to take yet).

Avatar f tn The synthetic forms of progesterone - such as Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (Provera, Cycrin, Curretab) or Norethindrone Acetate (Norlutate) – should not be taken during your pregnancy. The progesterone that is in the birth control pill or Provera is man-made and may be related to bad side effects when taken during a pregnancy. These forms of progesterone should never be used whenever a woman may be pregnant. Does the FDA having any warnings for Progesterone? Yes.
280700 tn?1210287416 I also took clomid 50mg last month and never ovulated, so the cycle was a bust and the doctor prescribed Provera again casue it could be some time before i get my period. He upped my dosage to 100mg and i'm on day 3 today of clomind. I'm basically taking clomid cd 2-6 as the specialist wanted and then he will start monitoring me on CD 9. I'm also getting IUI done so hopefully tis would help but if I don't ovulate then this cycle would be a bust also. I'm crossing my fingers as well.
