Avatar f tn I was bleeding for 3 months straight and my obgyn put me on medroxyprogesterone to make it stop. I started it the day before I was predicted to ovulated. I have been off it over a week and was told when I stopped I should spot and then my period should come normally. I have been having unprotected sex and I am 3 days late on my period. I have no clue what is going on. My questions is has anyone taken this and had this problem?
Avatar m tn I had blood work done and I am not full menopause - so my DR, put me on Medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to start it up. Is it true that these drugs can make you more fertile after all is on track? I've posted before as I would love to get pregnant. When I thought I was full menopause I was sad to say the least. I hear so many stories of people that get surprised during pre-menopause when they think they are safe and then get pregnant - I should be so lucky! Thanks in advance for your help.

2051102 tn?1330321233 Medroxyprogesterone is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life). Medroxyprogesterone is also used to prevent overgrowth of the lining of the uterus (womb) and may decrease the risk of cancer of the uterus in patients who are taking estrogen. Medroxyprogesterone is in a class of medications called progestins.

Avatar n tn Hello~ My OBGYN suggested to take 5 mg Medroxyprogesterone 5 mg x 7 days to induce menstruation. I am 49 years old in pre-menopause. I have not had a period and am starting my 7th month of no period. I really dislike any type of pills, but my doctor said, I should take this med every three months if I do not have a period, to shed my uterine lining, until I am through with menopause. I do smoke sometimes, otherwise very healthy, and am afraid of the side effects.
Avatar f tn Just this past month since I still have my uterus he also put me on MEDROXYPROGESTERONE 2.5 MG TAB daily. Everything was going good and then all of a sudden starting yesterday I started cramping and started bleeding, like I am back on my period. Is this something to be concerned with or what? I read about break through bleeding after menapause but since it has not been 12 months yet of no period do I start all over again.
Avatar f tn was on medroxyprogesterone to get my period. my last month on it I didn't get my period. My OB doctor told me to call in 3 months if I don't get it. What will he put me on to help me get it again or do I have some kind of condition? This will be 3 months. I am only 39 and I think it might be perimenopause or menopausal but everyone keeps saying I'm too young. I do have some symptoms. Night sweats I also do get cramps like I'm going to get my period but I don't.
Avatar n tn Hello again, I just asked her and she said she takes them seperately. EQUIN 0.625MG (estrogen) and MEDROXYPROGESTERONE 5 (5mg). She also reminded me to tell you that she is menopausal and that her ovaries do not produce hormones anymore. Please tell me if you have any suggestions with regard to the information I have given you. Thank you.
Avatar f tn did the ob gyn have you on medroxyprogesterone or bio-identical progesterone? There's a huge difference. Before September, how long had it been since you had had a period? By definition, menopause means you have gone a full 12 months without one. When I was peri-menopausal, I was helped alot by using bio-identical progesterone cream by Emerita. I'm not from Boston, however I have enjoyed seeing Naturopaths since my mid-40s.
Avatar f tn ) My question is this, infection has been ruled out, if this isn't peri-menopause (I'm assuming these symptoms could be attributed to it) nor normal thickening during the menstrual cycle does that mean it is probably cancer? Or are there other possible causes for this thickening and at my age.
Avatar f tn PROVERA IS NOT A BIRTH CONTROL Provera is used to treat abnormal menstruation (periods) or irregular vaginal bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life).
Avatar f tn is a progestin that is derived from the naturally occurring female hormone, progesterone. Progestins and estrogens comprise the two major classes of female hormones. Medroxyprogesterone is used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding, promote menstrual cycles, and to treat symptoms of the menopause. It also is used for treating the pain of endometriosis. So basically, in a nut shell, it will make me start AF (promotes menstrual cycles) and it will help with my endometriosis.
135691 tn?1271100723 but I have been following along with Becky regarding this issue. (difficult surgical menopause, age 49, surgery 6 months ago due to complex cysts, no ovca but very interested in this issue now as a result). I do question the safety of estrogen for us ALL. I noticed you said "...I would consider estrogen, low dose and without the addition of progesterone" and I wondered if you could perhaps expand on why no progesterone? Or are you referring to progestin? Or does it matter?
Avatar f tn Been on 88 for 4 weeks now. Should I get labs done again? what is going on? I am 48 and been tested for pre-menopause (I'm not) and had other female test done that was ok. I now know after reading blogs I should of had Free T 3...Can anyone shed some light on my situation???
Avatar n tn my doc didnt do nothing about it since recently, he put me on abunch of diff pills, metformin, medroxyprogesterone, birth control and nothing bought my period back, im just wondering if the depo caused this, ive been on the depo after my baby was born in dec,02 and got off it in oct,05 and havent been on any birth control since.
Avatar n tn As I recall, this is one reason why thyroid problems and menopause go together so often, since progesterone levels plummet. Or there is no more progesterone at all after surgical menopause. I am so sorry you are having these struggles. Get ahold of Reiss's book and Northrup's (I just typed Nordstrom by mistake...so, I guess if you don't get any answers, well, heck, you could go shopping!
Avatar n tn Look it up on Wikipedia, there is a lot of information there. Depo-Provera does not have progesterone in it. It is a Contraceptive Injection (medroxyprogesterone acetate) manufactured by Pfizer Inc.
Avatar n tn Hi, I haven't had a period in about 8 weeks, I am 38 years old. NOT pregnant. I have a Hemorrhagic Cyst on my ovary. Dr. says THAT is not causing my period not to come...so I am undergoing a "TEST" he says....I am on Medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to see if it will jump start my period and dissolve the cyst. IF my period does not start, he says we could be looking at some other issues such a my pituitary gland. Or possible early menopause.
Avatar f tn Medroxyprogesterone acetate Polyethylene glycol 3350 Polysorbate 80 Sodium chloride Methylparaben Propylparaben Water for injection some of which are actually ingredients in the foods we eat every day. the ones that aren't are either hormones or non-thermisolic preservatives, such as methylparaben or propylparaben. So I would say that there's almost no chance the shot is the cause. have you spoken with a geneticist?

Avatar f tn Went to doc on day number 10 and he put me on medroxyprogesterone pills which haven't kicked in as of yet (day #5). It seems to be heavy this week just like my cycle started all over again without stopping. I am 44yrs old and thinking that my thyroid issue may be sending me into early menopause but doc haven't mentioned this.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this will definitely lead me to early menopause and other health problems or if not having a period really isn't that big of a deal. I do not have any other symptoms other than not having a period either. I also am not excessively thin and weigh around 128 lbs and I am about 5'3 nor do I have PCOS. My doctor also had prescribed me medroxyprogesterone and I do not want to take it. I am not a big fan of taking any type of medication but doctor has suggested that I take it.
Avatar f tn •Secondary amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding in a woman who had been menstruating but later stops menstruating for 3 or more months in the absence of pregnancy, lactation (the ability to breastfeed), cycle suppression with systemic hormonal contraceptive (birth control) pills, or menopause. For a woman to have regular menstrual cycles, her hypothalamus, pituitary gland (see Anatomy of the Endocrine System), ovaries, and uterus should all be functioning normally.
Avatar n tn I'm 54 years old and have had all the regular menopause symptoms; hot flashes, sleep problems, anxiety, weight gain etc. My doctor put me back on Avian 28 birth control pills & all these smptoms have stopped. However, I now have the most baffling of all symptoms: My body odor has turned very masuline. Both under my arms and in my female area. I smell like a sweaty "guy" down there all the time - same with armpits.
2035763 tn?1329566863 So I am in pain from all the bad symptoms without the benefit of the monthly cleaning out if you know what I mean. I called my doctor and was put on medroxyprogesterone for 10 days. I am now 14 days out after starting the meds, so 4 days after stopping and no period yet. What happens next? Does anyone know? If the medroxyprogresterone doesn't work, what do they do now? I feel there is someting wrong because I am having period symptoms and no period.
622208 tn?1222549040 I assumed I was starting menopause. Consequently, my doctor orderd blood work, a pap smear, and ultrasound. My pap smear was normal. The full metabolic blood panel was normal. I am not pregnant (and have been abstinent for almost two years). Both the pelvic ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound showed cysts on both ovaries, on the cervix, and in the vaginal wall.
