Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone medicine

2051102 tn?1330321233 Hello all. I am wondering if its me or the medicine. I went back on the medication Medroxyprogesterone this month. I was on it in March and started my period as normal but instead of lasting 14 days it lasted 12. Last month I forgot that I was suppose to take the medication and as normal I started but one day early and again it lasted 12 days. I started on the 2nd of this month and my period was suppose to start on the 7th of this month, I am now 5 days late.
Avatar m tn i've gone 6 months without getting it without being pregnant or anything like that. My doctor prescribed me Medroxyprogesterone about a week ago and told me to take it for 5 days until i get my period then start taking birth control once it starts. it's been about 8 days and i still havent gotten my period. she says that it you dont get your period for more than 3 months (without the medicine, naturally) then i have a great risk of uterus cancer.
Avatar n tn I am taking my 2nd round of this medicine. First round I took for 7 days. Waited 10 days to see if I would start and did not start. My Dr put my on 2 a day for 10 days so far nothing yet. I don't know what's going on with my female stuff but its crazy the way it works. My Dr gave me the meds because I haven't had a period since Oct 5th 2017 and its now Feb 25th 2018. Im not pregnant and only 34-years-old. I've have 3 kids my oldest is 17 and youngest is 13.
Avatar f tn I got the prescription from the doctor to take 10mg/day of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE. However, since I started taking the medicine too late, 2 days after I took the medicine, I still had my period, so I stopped taking it. On May 13th, I had unprotected sex. My question is: is it safe to get pregnant within a month after taking 20mg of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE? Many thanks!

Avatar n tn Hello, I just was given a 10 day cycle of medroxyprogesterone and it has been several days since I finished taking it and I have yet to bleed! Has anyone else had this happen? I am very queezy and feel like I am going to throw up but don't actually, ever since I stopped taking the medicine. Again, no bleeding at all has occurred. I am getting worried on why that is. Anybody know what to do?
Avatar f tn I started taking this medicine on the first of March and had a regular cycle on the 19. I didn't take the medicine in April due to me being on antibiotics. I didn't have a period in April and haven't had one so far in May. I'm usually regular with my cycles being off a few days. I've never missed a whole month except for my pregnancy with my daughter. I took a test a few days after the 19 of April and it was negative. I've been experiencing several symptoms of pregnancy.
Avatar f tn And he proscribed me medroxyprogesterone to get rid of my ovarian cysts. Well last month when I took the medicine I started my period three days before finishing the 12 day course. Returned to my doctor for Clomid to cause ovulation. Therefore to cause pregnancy. My days for possibility to get pregnant were Sept 12-Sept 22. I then returned to my doctor on day 35(Oct 7). He did a pregnancy test that came back negative. Then re-prescribed the medroxyprogesterone and Clomid.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Medroxyprogesterone because I was having irregular periods that either were extremely heavy and long or did not exist at all per month. I was prescribed this medicine after getting off of birth control pills with hopes to attempt to conceive with my husband. We've then decided to stop actively trying to conceive for now, but recently I am starting to think about trying again. Will continuing to take medroxyprogesterone help or hurt my chances of getting pregnant?
Avatar f tn PROVERA IS NOT A BIRTH CONTROL Provera is used to treat abnormal menstruation (periods) or irregular vaginal bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life).
Avatar n tn My husband and I moved, and I had a positive on a pregnancy test. Now I hadn't taken my medicine for my thyroid in months, b/c I was trying to boost my metabolism naturally by exercising, and I had a period and spotting during the months not on the medication. When I got the positive on the digital pregnancy test, we went and had blood work done, and a sonogram, and I was told my thyroid was fine and that I was not pregnant.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 3 months because I was starting to bleed daily sometimes with clots sometimes just old spotting (brown discharge)and the medicine stopped the bleeding right away, in fact the very next day. I'm worried because I haven't had a regular menstrual cycle in almost 2 months.
Avatar n tn I went to my doctor and have a check since when i have supposed my menstrual its stopped on the first day (which i usually had a 5 days menstrual). She prescribed me to take the Medroxyprogesterone acetate (Provera). On the first five days, i took the generic medicine, and after that i missed on pill. And then after a day missing to take the pill , i bought five more complete the 10 days but on this time i took the branded one. Is there any problem with that? hope everyone can help me.
1855970 tn?1325827213 I have been taking Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) for 11 months now to induce my period each month. I take 10mg days 16-26 each month. I usually get my period 2-5 days after i stop the medicine. This month however, its day 11 and still no period. For the past week or so I have been experiencing very painful/sensitive nipples, slight abdominal cramping, excessive tiredness, headaches, and nausea.
Avatar f tn I'm on my 3rd day of taking medroxyprogesterone because I haven't had my period. I'm almost 40 years old and have had 4 consecutive miscarriages. I worry that if I am pregnant, will the medicine help or cause harm? The only reason I ask is because my doctor didn't do a blood test and my urine test(from past pregnancies) don't even show up til I'm in my 2nd or 3rd month of pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I went to a doctor she gave me medroxyprogesterone for 5 days. Today is my 6th day since I took my last pill but still no period. Though I am cramping alolike period is coming. Why no period yet?

Avatar n tn Prempro ( combination of conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone) is not usually given if there is a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot. Since long-term intake of this medicine may also increase your risk of breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, and blood clot - it is important that you discuss with your doctor about your management plan. 1557930 tn?1294636149 If your periods are irregular or have stopped completely and your doctor can find no obvious cause, it may be that something has upset your natural hormone levels. Medroxyprogesterone can help to restore your natural hormone levels, because it mimics the effects of your natural progesterone. Normally the level of progesterone in your blood increases about a week before your period.

1856888 tn?1325186544 If medroxyprogesterone is taken for 5 to 10 days each month at this time (ie day 16 to 21 of your cycle) it mimics the natural rise in your progesterone levels. This can help your other hormones to behave in a more normal way. To treat irregular periods this medicine is taken in this way for two menstrual cycles. To treat periods that have stopped it is taken for three menstrual cycles. In each case, a few days after you stop taking the tablets you should get your period.
Avatar n tn Hello, Medroxyprogesterone is usually given for only a few days in a row each month. You may need to start taking the medication on a certain day of your menstrual cycle and it is not safe to take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Since the bleeding has not stopped get it checked by your doctor and also get menorrhagia ruled out. Excessive amount or duration of menstrual flow, at more or less regular intervals is called menorrhagia.

Avatar f tn I went to see my gynocologist monday because I had spotting and bleeding since July 28th and ended up in urgent care that previous friday. My gyn Dr. wanted to put me on medroxyprogesterone acetate 10mg but while I was in the office they gave me a vaginal biopsy and was scheduled for a ultrasound so I wanted to get my results before I start my hormone medicine.Doctor called me the next day and said I have a non-cancerous firbroid and polyp from the biopsy results.
Avatar f tn ok so i had a DNC done 7 weeks ago. the baby was dead and i hadn't had a miscarriage yet so they had to go in and take it out. well its been 7 weeks like i said and on the 19 of last month i went in to the ER because i was bleeding quite a bit and they put me on 10mg of Medroxyprogesterone or a more common name, provera.
Avatar m tn Other than what I mentioned and fatigue due to the hypothyroidism, I've always been pretty healthy compared to many. I am not on any medications, except a recent medroxyprogesterone treatment to induce a period. I do not do drugs and am not an alcoholic. I have started a new job recently, and have had a few financial and personal woes of late, due to bad luck, so it could be stress. Additionally, I often have extremely vivid dreams, which might also be the culprit.
