Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone fertility

depo-provera

Avatar m tn Hi I posted this under fertility and was advised to post it here - thanks in advance! I am 43 with irregular periods and my period stopped after June. I had blood work done and I am not full menopause - so my DR, put me on Medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to start it up. Is it true that these drugs can make you more fertile after all is on track? I've posted before as I would love to get pregnant. When I thought I was full menopause I was sad to say the least.

I hear so many stories of people that get surprised during pre-menopause when they think they are safe and then get pregnant - I should be so lucky! Thanks in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn is it possible to get pregnant after taking the medication medroxyprogesterone? are my chances to conceive higher because of this medication?
1003693 tn?1250204277 Well i had an appointment with my endocrinologist today, she said the clomid didn't help, i didn't ovulate, so she told me to stop taking it and to stop taking medroxyprogesterone cause it was making me swell and gain weight, but she referred me to a fertility specialist who she has talked to and who is willing to help me, basically the last fertility specialist said they wouldnt' be able to do anything for me cause of my weight, hell they wouldn't even give me clomid unless i lost like 70 pound

Avatar n tn He made me feel guilty for being pregnant and for wanting to keep my baby. Anyhow, I was given Medroxyprogesterone to help bring about a period. I start right on time (just four days after taking the pills.) It was extremly heavy and definately like a period. Now that I've menstrated, I should be ovulating soon! (from the 21st-25th) With all this being said, i was wondering if it would be possible to get pregnant again? does taking medroxy. for four days prolonge getting pregnant?

Avatar f tn Typically, this is achieved initially using hormonal contraception. This can also be accomplished with progestational agents (i.e., medroxyprogesterone), danazol, gestrinone, or gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH), as well as other less well-known agents. These agents are generally used if oral contraceptives and NSAIDs are ineffective. GnRH can be combined with estrogen and progestogen (add-back therapy) without loss of efficacy but with fewer hypoestrogenic symptoms.
392087 tn?1252608959 hi, i have PCOS me and my bf av been trying to concieve for 2 years now but had no luck so far, my doc reffered me to a gyne and he prescribed me a 5 day course of Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) 10mg 3 times a day, he said this would bring on a period (wich it did 8 days after course). had your periods stopped? b4 now my last period was dec 2006! have you ever discovered big blood clots and if you use tampons does it hurt, i use to use them until now i can't stand the pain.
Avatar n tn hi, i have been on birth control and metformin and medroxyprogesterone, and they still didnt bring back my period, i had my baby in dec 02 and went on the needle in jan 03, and been on it since 05 and ever since i been on the needle, no period at all. i been on the needle 2 years, i dont know if its the needle, alot of people i know who have tried the needle for long periods of time got pregnant right after they stopped the needle, maybe im differ?
Avatar f tn In a typical cycle of 28 days, most women ovulate near day 14 and then have their periods 14 days after that. Your fertility window is about 12-36 hours when you are ovulating and that's being generous. The reason it is possible to get pregnant near a period for some is because their Luteal phase is probably extremely short (the period of time after you ovulate to the time you get your period.) So, unless you know that your Luteal Phase is unusually short, I wouldn't worry too much.
Avatar f tn -( I am just so confused by all whats going on.
Avatar f tn no period for 3 years I went through a year of fertility treatments for my second child.. I found that clomid thinned my lining (have you had yours measured?) and I had to do 2 rounds of injectables with iui to get pg.. she is now 6.. fast forward... I got divorced lost 100lbs and my cycle returned to normal and I got pg the first month without even trying... I think one key to pcos fertility is loosing weight.. that said I don't even know if you are over weight..
430388 tn?1239588723 Hi Hun, First things first calm down, second thing if your doctor only told you this and didn't give you the option of birth control right now or fertility meds (Clomid, Serophen (SP) Metaformin) to help with pregnancy or Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to start your period, then I would say get another doctor asap, because it seems as though this doctor made you feel like you didn't have options and you do.
Avatar f tn Because DMPA persists in the body for several months in women who have used it on a long-term basis, it can delay the return to fertility. Approximately 70% of former users desiring pregnancy conceive within 12 months, and 90% of former users conceive within 24 months. Similar to the delay in fertility after discontinuation of DMPA, other adverse effects, such as weight gain, depression, and menstrual irregularities, may continue for as long as 1 year after the last injection.

143868 tn?1263932445 Seeing a spot of blood during ovulation is considered an excellent fertility sign. It is thought that mid-cycle spotting occurs for one of two reasons. First reason is possibly that when the egg bursts through the follicle, a little bleeding may occur.
Avatar n tn If you are of the age and inclination to have (or have more) children, then these issues do indeed need to be addressed, and it might be best that you seek the services of a fertility specialist.
Avatar f tn Ever since I had my oldest son, he is now 21 years 3 months old, I've had to take medroxyprogesterone every third month to have a cycle. I had to take fertility drugs to get pregnant with my second son who is now 14 years 2 months old. Everything went according to clockwork until this last April. I started taking the medicine in pill form, but because my husband died, I didn't take my medicine on schedule. I didn't have a cycle, but I did take my medicine again in July and had a cycle.
Avatar f tn My GYN put me on a 10 day course of 10 mg Medroxyprogesterone. After starting the 10 day course I started spotting dark brown blood on day 4, then I started spotting again after 3-3 1/2 weeks but it was still spotting but not like a regular cycle. The doctor thinks that I passed the progesterone challenge and said that my hormones look fine. About five days ago my nipples started getting really sore which is something I haven't experienced in quite a while.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed provera 10mg to stop my period. I have norplant which is another contraceptive (implant) the bleeding has not stopped instead it's getting worse and i have exceeded my normal days. it looks like it's about to stop then starts again. I have only taken 3 pills what happens if I stop without taking all the 10 pills.
Avatar f tn As I said earlier I was diagnosed with PCOS Last year and have been on Metformin for about 4 months now and was given medroxyprogesterone/provera to start my cycle just recently so that we could be begin our journey yet again. Well today AF showed up and I am very happy because I had not seen her for a while and also this means it's time for our journey to begin! My question(s) is/are 1. What was your TTC plan of attack (sorry I couldn't think of a another phrase or any other way to put it)?
Avatar n tn also my husband is in the navy so the doctors want to know where therre is research that hcg helps fertility please let me know of a reputable website for research thanks
Avatar n tn I took medroxyprogesterone a few times too, and most of the times it delayed my period, the longest it delayed was 24 days...so hang in there. As for Proemtrium, I've been using it for a year (ttc) and my period will never come on its own if I don't stop it.
Avatar n tn Hi I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19. I also was diagnosed with HPV when I was about 18. I do not have periods by myself. I weigh about 225 5'7. I have not had a weight problem before I found out I had PCOS. I have been working on my eatting and excercise habits for the past few years. Me and my husband have had unprotected sex for about 2 1/2 years now. I finally went to the dr.
Avatar f tn Ortho Progesterone 28's I started the Medroxyprogesterone and by the 8th out of 10 days, I finally stopped my period. It was amazing. I was happy and had energy. A dream come true for me. I have my ultrasound done and I told her all the symptoms I have and had have and told her that my doctor thought maybe I had PCOS. She straight up rejected that idea because "with PCOS women don't usually have their period at all.
Avatar n tn Last period I took clomid but I assume I did not ovulate because the fertility monitor never reached the peak fertility day. I still had sex on the supposed fertile days because I was not sure. I was waiting to get my period this month to take clomid again, but it did not come. I have PCOS. I did another pregnancy on 11/23 test because I was worried and it came ot positive. Can I really be pregnant after taking provera? I am calling my gyn tomorrow but wanted to know your thoughts!
Avatar n tn I took medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 10 days,i start my period 2 weeks after my last pill
