Common Questions and Answers about Medication sertraline zoloft side effects

zoloft

Avatar f tn when I was 1st put on it, the warnings w the med said not to take it in the 3rd trimester. My OB said the side effects are minimal to baby after delivery & weighing benefits (momma not dealing w PPD) over the risks, benefits are far greater. She daid baby tends to be more sleepy & not wanting to eat but this only lasts for about 3 days.
Avatar f tn t really work, or may just have annoying side effects, or even intolerable side effects, such as insomnia, or more often being tired all the time. Either one can happen. (One med kept me awake like drinking 20 cups of coffee. The same med put my mother to sleep for 18 hours.) Keep hope that there's a medication out there that will work wonders, and keep searching for it, and understand it's normal for any particular one not to work for everyone. Each one works for some.
Avatar n tn I am on 25mg sertraline, day 8 for anxiety and panic attacks - so far only really feeling the side effects and no real relief yet but am very hopeful given all the positive comments I've read online - if I can just last until it starts to kick in. Also hoping that I won't require a higher dosage.
Avatar f tn •drowsiness, dizziness, tired feeling; •mild nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach, constipation; •dry mouth; •changes in appetite or weight; •sleep problems (insomnia); or •decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
Avatar n tn t taper off as you should have done before starting the Zoloft. It could be side effects of the Zoloft, which you should have tapered up on slowly to get your brain used to it. It could be overdosing on serotonin, as you're still on the Effexor. And it could be just your same old problems never having been cured in therapy but just suppressed by meds that aren't currently working.
Avatar f tn Different meds affect different people different ways. I have been on Sertraline (Zoloft) in the past and I am actually on it now. I actually prefer it to any other SSRI, but I can share with you my personal experiences with it. First of all, it is very common to prescribe a benzo like Xanax when starting an SSRI. It is true that it can have a high affinity for addiction if abused. But in my experience, taking it as prescribed for a month is what it is designed for.
Avatar n tn i have been suffering from major depression and anxiety for more than 6 months, i tried different medication but nothing helped but recently my doctor gave me new medication called sertraline and after 2 weeks of taking this medication i feel 70% better than before. my main symptoms have started to vanish and i feel like full recovery is just around the corner.
Avatar m tn I am on sertraline but it is making me very sick. Nausea, runny tummy, headaches, palpations and my anxiety more than ever! Hard time sleeping or eating. Went back to the docter and told him how I felt,my symptoms. You know what he did???? Put me in a pchyciatry hospital because its all in my head! I know my body,i can feel its not working, its making me sicker. My thoart is red and my neck muscels stiff. but he blame it all on anxiety!!
Avatar m tn t ever know if these are side effects of the Zoloft or withdrawal effects from stopping the Lexapro. This should also tell you about stopping the Klonopin abruptly -- it's not about whether you're technically addicted to something or not, it's how easy your brain finds it to adapt back to being without the artificial way medication makes it work. Other medications can't duplicate this because they all work differently and target different receptors.
Avatar f tn Sertraline is the generic name for Zoloft, which is an antidepressant. It doesn't contain HCG, and it has no effect on a pregnancy test.
Avatar f tn It is not a typical transient side effect, I will tell you that. Transient side effects are the ones associated with the medication getting up and running within the system. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks to know if a an antidepressant is going to work for you. By that time, transient side effects subside and full effectiveness is in place. So, a trial of 6 to 8 weeks of sertraline is what most doctors do. They will stop this if the side effects are unusual or too much.
Avatar f tn Tremors, especially of the hands, is a very common, but benign, side effect for many of us while our bodies adapt to sertraline. Since we all react to medications differently, there is no way I can predict when this particular side effect will stop for you. Just know that it will.....probably in a few more weeks.
Avatar f tn We all react differently to medications and we are all able to tolerate side effects differently. If the sertraline works well for your depression/anxiety, it will be up to you personally to decide if you can tolerate the side effect. Just don't give up too quickly. I almost did.
Avatar f tn Now, if it was just the Zoloft and only the Zoloft, any side effects of it should go away pretty quickly since you weren't on it long enough for it to actually do anything much. It takes some time for the brain to learn to alter the way it works. But side effects can start right away, both as the brain tries to adjust and the body fights the drug -- as drugs aren't food, humans aren't evolved to consume them, and so they have to be designed to be force-fed to us.
Avatar f tn Whenever I would switch medications, there was an adjustment period where I did feel some side effects, but if you know that it is happening it really makes it much easier to handle. Starting, stopping, or switching any medication can cause side effects...not just ADs, SSRIs, but other medications as well. As long as you are doing this under the advise of your doctor, you are doing the right thing, in my experience.
Avatar f tn Did you guys experience lots of side effects when starting the zoloft?? I have been prescribed it But too nervousto takeit!
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn The side effects that you are describing are somewhat common side effects many experience from this class of medications. Zoloft (Sertraline) and Celexa (Citalopram) are in a slightly different class known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) but are also used to treat depression with similar side effects. Cymbalta, another SNRI is a medication that may work for you.
Avatar m tn These are medications that are often prescribed for OCD, anxiety, depression. The sertraline can have side effects. What are you feeling like? I don't want to list side affects because I don't want you to start looking for particular one. :) How much Sertraline are you taking and how much alprazolam do you take during the day?
9475243 tn?1405300275 Sertraline has a higher dose for working than Paxil because the drug are different. Sertraline usually starts its therapeutic dose at 100mg. Some do well at 50. Some are highly sensitive to things and absorb them really well while others don't. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks to notice positive effects, although some do notice them earlier. Side effects, though, start right away.
Avatar f tn Just remember that there are side effects with Sertraline (Zoloft) in both the generic and brand name forms especiallly when you start, change doses, or come off of it, but for most people they are not that bad. For example I have more side effects from taking a Claritan than I ever did with Zoloft. As with any medical concerns, always keep an open channel with your doctor to express any of your concerns or questions.
Avatar m tn I've been taking amplodipine / norvasc 10 mg (antihypertensive) for about a year and a half now and montelukast / singulair 10 mg (leukotriene modifier) for shorter periods (2 months, march - may 2008 and 2 months this year, started in early may and still on it). Last month, after having been on fluoxetine / prozac for about 1 year, I showed some deterioration (more depressive symptoms, more anxiety / panic attacks).
