Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt migraine medicine

maxalt

Avatar f tn However, I am only allowed 9 pills for the month thru my health insurance. Is there another new migraine medicine out there that I could get that would be similier but would allow me more pills for the month.
655875 tn?1295695107 m still very much sick to my stomach, but no headache. I will NEVER run out of migraine medicine like that again. Maxalt is the only thing that works well for my headaches. My last few migraines have been giving me the chills and sweats. I wonder why that is. I'm so grateful for my friend and for Maxalt!
Avatar m tn She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with migraine after driving on a cloudy day without sunglasses for an hour and a half that resulted in a terrific headache, sensitivity to light and spotlights blocking my vision. The following day I could not stand up and felt like I had been given novacaine (sp) from a dentist--the left side of my tongue and upper palate were numb. I was given Benadryl, Reglan and Toradol which made me feel terrible by an ER doctor.
Avatar f tn i am 29 yrs old and had my first migraine ever in Feb and another almost exactly 1 month later in March. Both times with the aura, bright spot in my vision for approx 20-30 minutes, tingling/numbness in finger tips and hands, slurred speech, nausea, then headache comes within an hour and I feel wiped out the rest of the day and the next day. My family and friends of course panicked and pressed me to see a doctor.
Avatar f tn I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
Avatar n tn i took 2 maxalt on saturday for a migraine, it didnt help at all, actually made it worse making me vomit for 3 days and today is friday, 6 days later and i still feel like, tired, weak, foggy, not hungry, cant really go to the bathroom even though i feel like i have to. is this gonna go away?
Avatar f tn Maxalt rocks. I love it and carry it everywhere with me. www.maxalt.com Another new med www.relpax.com (I have some, just not had a headache lately to use them) because I take my magnesium :0-). Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
655875 tn?1295695107 My question is, are these rebound headaches from the Maxalt? I use the Maxalt no more then once to twice a week. This could also be sinus headaches too, I'm not 100% sure as I feel pressure in my head also. Is it okay to take the Maxalt 1-2 times a week? I also have a spinal cord nerve injury and I do take the long acting oxycontin every 8 hours for the pain.
768044 tn?1294223436 I currently use zomig nasal spray. I give it two thumbs up! In the past I have also used Maxalt (the dissolving kind) and Axert. I like zomig. The taste of the nasal spray isn't great (okay, it's TERRIBLE), but it works better than the tablets (in my personal experience and also this is true in terms of the chemical interaction of the medication in the various forms as they've found via scientific trials...
1125820 tn?1265284446 Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays.
Avatar n tn Relpax??) made my heart race and didnt alleviate the headache like MAXALT - ohh, I LOVE this medicine! I pop one right under the tongue as soon as my "spots" start, and about 20 minutes later, I can feel the headache breaking up a bit. Maybe this will work for you :-) Good luck!
10507009 tn?1410649642 In high school they began getting worse and I was prescribed a migraine medicine called “Relpax”. After a couple years they switched the medicine to “Maxalt.” I am now 22 years old and was prescribed “Zolmig/Zolmitriptan” about a year ago. The doctor believed the dissolvable dose would be able to work faster and be more beneficial. I began getting migraines about two-four times a month and the Zomig was helpful. However about two months ago my migraines increased to two-four times a week!
Avatar m tn or triptans are a class of medication and examples of triptans are sumatriptan (brand name imitrex), zomig, maxalt, axert... well those are just to name a few. And yes, they are migraine medication and you take them at the first signs of the migraine, the SS, and it will stop the SS as long as you take it at the very first signs that it is starting. You can get it prescribed by a neurologist or your family doctor. It is better to go to a neurologist instead of an eye doctor. But...
Avatar f tn t take them, I end up with a migraine the very next day....so those I have to mix. Luckily I will soon be off the pain medicine and then I am going to work on getting off the sleeping pills too. So I would definelty look into all the medicines he is taking and look at all the side effects and the precautions about what medicines he should not take together...I bet you will discover he is taking a lot of different medicines at the same time that is very dangerous.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar m tn No it is not, Have you tried tordal,(not sure I srelled that right) it is also non addicting. I believe it comes in pill form now... Ask your dr...
1577473 tn?1296177286 I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all. The Zonisamide gave me some pretty intense heart palpitations so I was switched to Topomax.
Avatar f tn At first it was only once a week, and then went to three times a week, then back to one or none, and now I have had a migraine every day this week since Sunday. I find that I always wake up with them. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to be sick. Sometimes, like today, I felt dizzy to the point where I had to sit down and kept having to go sit down at work and had stomach aches and a migraine.
Avatar f tn Once a migraine attack has started it is very hard to end. You need strong drugs for that. Do you usually have migraine attacks that last this long? Maybe you should see a doctor?
Avatar m tn i stop taking inderal and i take maxalt wafer so when i have a migraine i take 2 co-codamol 30-500 and take a maxalt wafer that melts on my tongue , and it does help it cuts the pain rite down pretty quick x
Avatar f tn Hormone changes especially prior to menstruation may indeed trigger headache or migraine attacks. Migraine usually presents with other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. Rest, pain medication and ice pack may help. Take care and do keep us posted.
1552758 tn?1304928419 Thanks for sharing! It sounds like from your taking maxalt after chocolate, you aren't quite an ex-migraine sufferer then! I am in surgical menopause as well (but for severe endometriosis issues) and, while it has helped the migraine situation, I have numerous triggers that can still bring them on and I usually have averaged 5 a month post hysterectomy. It's good you learned a lot of yours and can choose to avoid those!
Avatar f tn I tried to close my eyes and then open them but it continued for about 15 mins, once it slowed down i took one of my migraine pills (maxalt wafers) and feel back to sleep, once I woke a couple of hours later apart from feeling exhausted my vision had improved and my migraine was back to a dull throb. Has anyone had any simular experiences or do you think it could be caused by the pill. Please help as it was very scary.
Avatar f tn Oh on a side note...maxalt is a triptan and is not recommended for migraine patents who have aura because it can increase risk of stroke. It causes vasoconstriction, tightening of the blood vessels. You might want to ask your doctor why he/she says it is okay to be on that? I took my mothers maxalt when I had a migraine and my primary care physicain and my neurologist both scolded me for taking it because of my complicated migraine with aura!
